Chapter 13.2
“Did sister-in-law ask you to bring it over?” he asked again.
Zhou Yao, slightly proud, raised his eyebrows, “Yes, she also said you two should come over for dinner next time.”
Ren Yeliang noticed the pride on Zhou Yao’s face and chuckled, “Sister-in-law is really kind.”
He thought to himself, It’s the first time I’ve seen my brother so proud. It seems their relationship is really good.
When he tasted the braised pork, he was immediately conquered by the flavor.
Wow, his sister-in-law’s cooking is amazing! I want to visit his brother’s house right away!
Zhou Yao sat on a stool, legs crossed, watching their expressions with a satisfied smile. “My wife said she’ll cook different dishes for me, like braised fish and braised pig’s trotters. Whatever I want to eat.”
Ren Yeliang shamelessly asked, “Brother, you’re my dear brother. Can you take me along next time?”
“Let’s see. We’re busy these days. Maybe after things settle down,” Zhou Yao said, feeling a bit guilty.
“Brother, are you taking sister-in-law to the city tomorrow?” Ren Yeliang asked.
Zhou Yao waved his hand, “She can’t handle it. Maybe some other time.”
After chatting for a while, Zhou Yao walked home slowly with empty hands.
His mood was good, and the sunlight highlighted his handsome features, making him look radiant. Even his hair seemed to shine.
Wen Xiaoyu didn’t expect to run into Zhou Yao on her way out. She was momentarily stunned.
Coming to her senses, she approached him with a soft smile, “Zhou Yao, where are you going?”
She was wearing a blue and white striped dress, having just washed her hair, which was now draped down her back. She wore what she thought was a perfect smile, raising her hand to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, every move meticulously planned.
Wen Xiaoyu was quite pretty, inheriting the best features of Wen Guoqiang and Li Huahong. Having attended school, she had a scholarly air about her, looking refined and unlike a typical village girl. Many women in the village wanted her as a daughter-in-law, considering it an honor.
Zhou Yao glanced at her indifferently, his smile fading instantly. “None of your business.”
Seeing any member of the Wen family annoyed him.
Wen Xiaoyu’s smile froze. “…What?”
She blinked, doubting her ears. “What did you say?”
“I said it’s none of your business.” Zhou Yao, hands in his pockets, said expressionlessly, “If your ears are bad, go see a doctor. Don’t bother me.”
Wen Xiaoyu had never been treated like this before, her eyes reddening instantly. “Can’t you speak nicely?”
Zhou Yao couldn’t be bothered with her, stepping around her to continue on his way.
“Zhou Yao!” Wen Xiaoyu, unwilling to give up, caught up to him, softening her tone, “Zhou Yao, I think there’s some misunderstanding between you and our family. My parents have been very kind to Wen Yue.”
“Wen Yue’s temperament is too strange. She always had a sullen face and didn’t communicate with people. I even saw her sneak into my room to wear my clothes. You can’t believe everything she says. You need to have your own judgment…”
Zhou Yao found it amusing, “If I don’t believe my own wife, should I believe you?”
Wen Xiaoyu nodded, “You should believe in facts.”
Zhou Yao laughed out of anger, stopping and looking down at Wen Xiaoyu with a half-smile.
“Facts?”
He took a step back, his tall frame towering over her like a wall, his masculine presence making her cheeks flush.
Zhou Yao didn’t notice her reaction, his gaze cold and sharp. “You spent over ten yuan on that dress, right? My wife brought three sets of clothes when she got married, and I heard that they were the ones you didn’t want. Look at the flesh on your chin, it’s almost doubled. The doctor said my wife is malnourished and as thin as a bamboo pole.”
“So the fact is you took my wife’s money and mistreated her. How dare you talk about facts to me? I think not only is your face thick, but your skin is too.”
The fat under her chin… almost forming two layers…
Not only is your face thick… but your skin is too…
Wen Xiaoyu felt as if she had been struck by lightning. Tears welled up instantly, her voice tinged with a sob, “Zhou Yao! How can you say that to me? I’m a girl, after all.”
Zhou Yao replied coolly, “Yeah, if you weren’t a girl, I would have already taken action instead of wasting my breath here.”
He was wearing a dark blue jacket over a white undershirt. The undershirt clung to his muscles, and his rolled-up sleeves revealed his wheat-colored arms, crisscrossed with bulging veins, exuding explosive strength. His long fingers, hanging lazily by his side, were well-defined, hinting at the power they could wield when clenched into a fist.
It must be quite powerful.
Wen Xiaoyu didn’t know what to say, only her tears kept falling, making her look pitiful.
Zhou Yao glanced at her and felt irritated, “Cry all you want, just don’t block my way.”
Wen Xiaoyu: “…”
Damn it, whoever marries this man is doomed for eight lifetimes!
Then she remembered Wen Yue had married him. She also thought of how domineering Zhou Yao was this morning when he went to the Wen family to demand money and land for Wen Yue, and her tears fell even more.
Why was he treating people differently? Why?
It was infuriating. How was she any worse than Wen Yue??
Wen Xiaoyu truly felt wronged, her tears couldn’t be wiped away fast enough. She finally managed to control herself, but when she looked up, Zhou Yao was long gone!
“…”
This blind man! He’ll regret it when she gets into college!
Wen Xiaoyu bit her lip and angrily watched Zhou Yao’s retreating figure before heading home unwillingly.
