Chapter 15.2
Standing outside was a somewhat small, young man with ordinary looks but a bright smile on his face.
When his gaze fell on Wen Yue, his smile froze, his eyes filled with amazement.
The woman in front of him wore a white shirt, her hair tied in a bun, a few strands of hair gently swaying by her ears. She smiled with bright eyes, her lips curving in a soft smile, looking exceptionally gentle and beautiful.
The young man momentarily froze when he spoke.
“Were you sent by Zhou Yao to bring me something?” Wen Yue asked, her voice soft.
The young man seemed to wake from a dream, swallowing hard, “Yes, yes, Brother Yao asked me to give these to you. These are the vegetables that Brother Yao bought.”
He lifted a seemingly heavy bag in his hand.
Wen Yue smiled warmly as she accepted the items from him, “Thank you, sorry for the trouble.”
“N-no problem.” The young man’s cheeks flushed bright red, and he stuttered a bit.
Oh my, his sister-in-law is really beautiful.
It’s no wonder Brother Yao is impressive; not only is he capable, but he also married such a pretty wife.
His face flushed, he said, “Then I’ll head off. Sister-in-law, if you need anything, just look for me. My family is the one near the cornfield. You should know which one it is.”
Wen Yue didn’t respond, just smiled and nodded.
Which house is near the cornfield?
No idea, but whatever, she’ll just nod along for now.
Wen Yue returned to the kitchen and opened the bag to take a look.
Inside were about three or four pounds of pork, one cleaned fish, and the rest were vegetables, including celery!
Perfect for making celery and pork dumplings!
After tidying up a bit, she began preparing the dough for dumpling wrappers and the filling, planning to spend the afternoon reading.
Wen Yue had laid out her time clearly.
—
Time passed quickly, and before long, it was afternoon.
Zhou Yao was packing up to go home.
Ren Yeliang chimed in, “Brother, it’s still early. Are we going back now?”
Zhou Yao lazily glanced at him with raised eyelids, his tone calm but inadvertently revealing a hint of pride, “Yeah, you sister-in-law asked me to come back early. She’s waiting for me at home.”
Ren Yeliang, suddenly hit with a mouthful of dog food: “…”
Looking at his brother’s raised brows, Ren Yeliang teased, “Getting married changes everything, huh, Brother? You used to complain when asked to come home early, saying there was nothing to do at home anyway.”
Zhou Yao clicked his tongue, rotating his wrist, “You little rascal, getting too cheeky lately?”
Ren Yeliang immediately raised both hands in surrender, “I was wrong, Brother! Let’s go home now. We can’t keep my sister-in-law waiting too long.”
Fang Shitao, watching from the side, chuckled to himself while tidying up the things in front of him.
“By the way, Brother Yao, Boss Sun said they’re going to the capital tomorrow,” Ren Yeliang continued casually, “Should we bring anything else?”
Zhou Yao pondered for a moment, “No, let’s talk about it later.”
He still didn’t quite understand what the situation in the capital was like.
Ren Yeliang always listened to his brother. Upon hearing this, he nodded, filled with longing, “Alright, Brother Yao! When do you think we’ll be able to go to the capital or Shencheng to take a look?”
Zhou Yao wasn’t interested in that topic at the moment; he shot him a glance, “What? Do you have money now?”
Ren Yeliang chuckled, “I’ve saved up a bit.”
“Let’s talk about it later,” Zhou Yao grunted noncommittally.
The three of them set off on their way home.
Taking the bus back to the county took two and a half hours, and by the time they arrived, it was completely dark. At this hour, there were no tricycles in the county, so they had to walk home.
Just as Zhou Yao, Ren Yeliang, and Fang Shitao walked out of the bus station, they had only walked for a couple of minutes when a middle-aged man’s voice suddenly called out from behind.
“Xiao Yao? Is that you, Xiao Yao?”
Zhou Yao instinctively turned his head to look, meeting the middle-aged man’s gaze, his brows instantly furrowing as he stopped in his tracks with a bland expression:
“Uncle Chen? Aren’t you in the capital? When did you come back?”
“I just recognized your figure; I didn’t expect it to be you,” Chen Wuming said with a smile as he walked over. “I came back to visit my relatives. I just arrived yesterday. I was planning to go to your village in a few days to look for you, but I didn’t expect to run into you here.”
Zhou Yao’s smile was perfunctory, “What does Uncle Chen want with me?”
The sky was too dark, and the streetlights on both sides were dim.
Chen Wuming didn’t notice the strange expression on the young man’s face. He continued smiling, “I heard you got married. Where is your wife from? Is she from that family?”
“Yes,” Zhou Yao replied succinctly.
Chen Wuming sighed, “Now that you’re married, it’s time to start your career… It’s getting late today, and I have things to do in the next few days. Next week, Tuesday, I’ll go to Hongshan Village to have a good chat with you! I still have some matters to attend to, so I’ll be leaving now!”
Zhou Yao’s brows furrowed even tighter; he wanted to refuse but thought it wouldn’t help given the other’s personality. He could only suppress his irritation and say, “Uncle Chen, you can go to the Old Fang’s house next Tuesday. I’ll be waiting for you there.”
Ren Yeliang interjected from the side, “Yes, we’ll prepare some drinks, and we can chat while drinking.”
Chen Wuming appeared quite happy, repeatedly agreeing, “Sure!”
