Gu Zhu picked a very cute lady mask for Feng Xiaohan.
“Feel it.”
Feng Xiaohan ran his fingers over the mask, as if he could see its shape.
A round face, this is the nose…
“I’ll take this one.”
“You have a good eye! This mask is loved by many little girls, only two taels of silver.” The vendor quickly took the opportunity to sell.
Upon hearing it was two taels, Gu Zhu narrowed her eyes slightly, a smile curling at the corner of her mouth, like a little fox.
“Two taels?”
“Yes, it’s a pure hand-carved mask. Look at the coloring and craftsmanship, it’s so good! I’ve sold quite a few already.” The vendor excitedly rattled on.
These two were dressed splendidly, so the price should be higher.
Moreover, people from wealthy families usually don’t haggle.
“Five hundred wen.” Gu Zhu smiled slightly.
“No, you can’t do that! I’m offering you a two-tael item, and you’re offering five hundred wen.” The vendor looked at Gu Zhu reluctantly.
No way, she’s really haggling!
“The price of such masks generally ranges from two hundred to three hundred wen, and children’s masks should be even cheaper.”
“Besides, this style of mask is available from many vendors. I’m offering five hundred wen because my father likes it and wants to buy it for my sister.”
“And the government has regulations stating that the price of goods cannot exceed three times the average market price.”
With each of Gu Zhu’s statements, the vendor’s expression fell a bit more.
This is it, he’s run into a tough opponent.
“Alright, alright, I’ll sell it to you for five hundred wen.” The vendor pretended to be impatient and waved his hand.
Gu Zhu paid the money.
“Please conduct your business according to the rules; otherwise, if the government finds out, you won’t be able to trade for three years,” Gu Zhu warned.
“Understood, little miss.”
“Take care.” The vendor forced a smile.
Feng Xiaohan felt the mask in his hands, wondering if the little girl would like it.
“Father, I see there’s a wind chime stall up ahead; do you want to take a look?” Gu Zhu pointed to a stall ahead.
“Hmm.” Feng Xiaohan nodded.
As they wandered through the market, they bought many little trinkets that little girls would love.
Feng Xiaohan touched a ceramic doll in his hand.
“What does the doll look like?”
“She’s wearing a red skirt, has her hair in a bun, and has a big smile on her face,” Gu Zhu described the chubby ceramic doll.
It was quite cute.
“Help me find one holding flowers.”
“Make sure she has her hair in a bun and is wearing a skirt,” Feng Xiaohan requested.
“Okay… this one.” Gu Zhu picked up a ceramic doll dressed in a green skirt, holding a large bouquet of flowers, and handed it to Feng Xiaohan.
Hmm, it seems she knows what her sister, whom she has never met, looks like—she likes her hair in a bun, wearing a skirt, loves flowers, and has a chubby little face.
Feng Xiaohan touched the ceramic doll.
“I’ll take this one.”
Gu Zhu bought one for herself as well.
They were really quite cute.
After buying a big pile of things, Feng Xiaohan felt a bit tired, so the two returned to the mansion for lunch.
“Gu Zhu, may I ask you a question?” Feng Xiaohan hesitated for a moment before speaking.
“Father, please go ahead.”
“It’s just… do you little girls not miss your father after not seeing him for many days?”
“Ah?” Gu Zhu was taken aback, as she truly hadn’t expected her father to ask such a question.
“It’s not that…” Feng Xiaohan felt that his wording was a bit off.
“Just… forget it.”
Feng Xiaohan gave up.
“Is it possible that littles sister hasn’t come to see you in a while, and you want to know if she’s not coming because she doesn’t miss you?” Gu Zhu guessed.
“Hmm.”
“I just want to know the truth.” Feng Xiaohan nodded.
“Maybe sister has other matters to attend to. When I’m busy, I sometimes forget about you for two or three months,” Gu Zhu said honestly.
Feng Xiaohan thought: two devoted daughters.
“Gu Zhu, I think it’s time to talk about your marriage; you’re sixteen now,” Feng Xiaohan said with a slight smile, turning to his adopted daughter.
“Father, my sister definitely misses you; she hasn’t come to see you these days, but it’s absolutely not because she doesn’t think of you.”
“She’s just caught up with something,” Gu Zhu said seriously, looking at her father.
“Once she’s done, she’ll come to see you immediately.”
“Right.” Feng Xiaohan’s mood lightened instantly.
The little girl must be thinking of him; she just doesn’t have time to come around, after all, she’s busy earning money to buy medicine for himself.
Gu Zhu elegantly rolled her eyes at Feng Xiaohan.
She knew he was using the marriage talk to pressure her.
“Father, you don’t need to worry about my marriage.”
“Understood.” Feng Xiaohan hadn’t really been worried either.
He didn’t bother worrying about the marriage affairs of these girls; they were old enough to handle it themselves.
“Hmph, just know how to threaten me,” Gu Zhu huffed.
Feng Xiaohan: Alright then, he has raised two devoted daughters.
They both huffed at him from time to time.
Late at night, Jiang Gu entered his chamber and lit a candle, unconsciously glancing at the table where he had placed the medicine and flowers last time.
Nothing was there.
Did he put it somewhere else?
Jiang Gu scanned the room with his eyes.
Nothing.
“Hmph, Jiang Gu, what are you expecting?” Jiang Gu took out a delicate dagger and made a small cut on his hand.
The pain in his hand helped calm his emotions a bit.
Jiang Gu took a deep breath, discarded the bloody dagger, and used a handkerchief to clean the blood from his hand.
Meanwhile, Yu Yu was busy working, hardly having a moment to spare.
“Yu Yu, bring me the medicine.”
“Okay!”
“Yu Yu, the gauze.”
“Okay!”
“Little girl, your medicine is ready.” Someone reminded Yu Yu.
“Okay!”
Yu Yu dashed over to check on the medicine.
“Little girl, my head hurts, can you ask the Medical Immortal to see me first?”
“My illness is worse, I should go first!”
“Hey, I’m coughing up blood!”
“My stomach hurts so much; am I going to die soon?”
…
Yu Yu took a deep breath, planting her hands on her hips.
“No cutting in line! The Medical Immortal will see you one by one!”
“For those outside, if it’s an emergency, you can go find a physician in the city first,” the Medical Immortal came out to maintain order.
“Yu Yu, you should take a break,” the Medical Immortal said, looking at the exhausted Yu Yu.
“I’m not tired; I can do it!” Yu Yu shook her head.
“Good girl.” The Medical Immortal patted her little head, then continued to work.
After a busy day, Yu Yu collapsed into bed, completely worn out.
After several days of busyness, Yu Yu had lost some weight, but the rewards were quite generous.
Looking at her earnings, Yu Yu couldn’t wait to share her joy with her father.
“Father~” Yu Yu called out.
Feng Xiaohan: Hmph, she still remembers she has a father.
“What is it?” Feng Xiaohan replied coldly.
“Father, Yu Yu earned a lot of money!” Yu Yu happily shared her news.
“How much did you earn?” Feng Xiaohan looked at Yu Yu.
Has she lost a bit of weight?
“Thirty thousand taels!” Yu Yu proudly held up three fingers.
“So much?” Feng Xiaohan was a bit surprised.
The little girl had been gone for seven and a half days and earned thirty thousand taels.
Did she rob a bank?
“Yep!” Yu Yu nodded her head excitedly.
A rumble came from her stomach as she patted it.
“Father, I’m hungry; it’s time to eat!”
“Wait.”
“I’ll call them to bring food over.”
“Okay.” Yu Yu nodded.
“Father, I want to eat a big pork knuckle.” The fragrant pork knuckle.
“Got it.”
“Father, I also want lamb chops.”
“Got it.”
“Father…”
“Everything you want,” Feng Xiaohan said, indicating they had it all and to stop asking.
Yu Yu sat down to nibble on a pastry to tide her over.
After a while, the dishes came out, filling the table.
“Your Highness, everything is served,” Qing’an said as he placed the bowls next to Feng Xiaohan.
Since Yu Yu was next to him, Feng Xiaohan was able to see Qing’an.
It had been five years, and Qing’an had grown some gray hair.
“Qing’an, thank you for your hard work.” Feng Xiaohan felt a bit guilty toward Qing’an.
