The Daughter Arrives, And The Proud Father Willingly Bows His Head In Submission Chapter 16

Chapter 16: They Were Sent by Huo Rong

Jiang Gu picked up the sunflower on the table and stared at it intently.

The color was vibrant, like the sun.

He put the sunflower down and changed into his light green robe before heading to the back of the study.

Behind the study was a grove of emerald bamboo. Jiang Gu walked through the bamboo forest, and before him lay a vast field of chrysanthemums.

He stood in silence, lost in contemplation.

Meanwhile, Yu Yu sat in the carriage, watching the bustling world outside.

It was more lively than the small town.

She saw the mask her father had given her, an exact replica of her own.

And the little clay figure.

Qing’an and Wenshu exchanged a glance.

The Prince was in a good mood today, actually willing to come out for a stroll.

He usually stayed confined to the Prince’s Mansion.

He could go for ten days, half a month, even a month without leaving.

The Prince once held the record for the longest time spent indoors, a staggering thirty days.

Feng Xiaohan took Yu Yu to a famous restaurant in Nansang, and in the evening, he took her out boating on the lake.

After a day of indulging, Yu Yu decided she didn’t want to work anymore.

“Father, Yu Yu doesn’t want to work anymore.”

“If you don’t want to, then don’t.” Feng Xiaohan replied.

After all, he could afford to support her.

“No, Father, your eye medicine still needs Yu Yu to buy it.” Yu Yu’s thoughts had momentarily strayed, but remembering her father’s eyes, she was instantly re-energized.

Feng Xiaohan didn’t say anything, just chuckled softly.

“Father, Yu Yu is going back now.” Yu Yu grabbed a handful of candy and put it in her bag.

“Good.” Feng Xiaohan nodded.

After Yu Yu left, Feng Xiaohan sat alone for a while.

“Qing’an, Wenshu, let’s go back.”

“Yes.”

Back in the bamboo hut, Yu Yu took a bath and went to bed.

Tomorrow, she would start working hard again!

Feng Xiaohan returned to the Prince’s Mansion, bathed and changed, and sat by the window.

The night wind was chilly. Feng Xiaohan reached out and touched the little clay figure.

He felt the face Yu Yu had molded.

This was his mouth, his nose, his eyes.

He traced those eyes carefully.

His eyes weren’t that round.

His eyes should be… what were they like?

He had forgotten what his own eyes looked like.

Feng Xiaohan touched his own eyes. Could his eyes really be healed?

Suddenly, a wave of killing intent swept through the air. Feng Xiaohan instantly became alert and drew his hidden weapon.

The secret guards immediately appeared, shielding Feng Xiaohan.

Qing’an and Wenshu sensed the danger and rushed to Wangchuan Courtyard.

“Your Highness.”

“Be careful.” Feng Xiaohan warned.

The secret guards and the assassins clashed, the stench of blood filling the air.

Wenshu and Qing’an stood guard around Feng Xiaohan, their senses heightened.

The sound of blades slicing through flesh, the spray of blood, the clang of weapons, all reached Feng Xiaohan’s ears.

He frowned.

An arrow shot towards Feng Xiaohan. Qing’an swung his sword, deflecting it.

Feng Xiaohan, smelling the strong scent of blood, felt a surge of relief that Yu Yu was back in her own world.

“Your Highness, something’s not right. The archer wouldn’t give up.” But he hadn’t fired another arrow.

“Because the archer has been dealt with.” Feng Xiaohan said.

“Father, your hearing is extraordinary.” A man in a light tea-colored robe with cloud patterns, walking in the moonlight, chuckled as he approached Feng Xiaohan.

“Greetings, Your Highness.” Qing’an and Wenshu bowed.

“Qing’an, Wenshu, long time no see.” Wujie greeted them.

“Now you have to sneak back home in the middle of the night.” Feng Xiaohan said calmly.

“Father, please don’t be angry. You know I don’t like to see people.” Wujie smiled faintly, explaining.

It was the best time to return home when no one was around, but he happened to encounter an assassination attempt on his father, and he took the opportunity to eliminate an assassin.

His celestial face held a hint of helplessness.

“Hmph.” Feng Xiaohan chuckled.

“How’s your health lately?”

“Same as always. I can only rest.”

The fighting outside stopped.

“Your Highness, we’ve captured two alive.” The secret guard reported.

“Interrogate them.” Feng Xiaohan ordered.

Qing’an brought a chair for Wujie to sit on.

“Father, let me take your pulse.”

Feng Xiaohan extended his hand to his foster son.

Outside, the screams of the interrogated prisoners echoed; inside, the pulse was taken in silence.

After a while, Wujie withdrew his hand.

“Your Highness seems to be in a very good mood lately.”

“His appetite has also increased, and his health is slightly better than before.”

Feng Xiaohan retracted his hand.

“Anything else?”

“Um… he’s also gotten angrier more often.”

“And more active.”

Qing’an and Wenshu, having witnessed this countless times, were unfazed.  A single pulse reading from His Highness revealed everything.

“Your Highness seems to be sleeping more than usual. Do you experience any discomfort upon waking?” Wujie asked worriedly.

“I wake up feeling refreshed, no dizziness or anything like that.” Feng Xiaohan recalled.

“Then there’s nothing to worry about.”

“Reporting, Your Highness, we’ve extracted a confession.”  A secret guard reported.

“Speak.”

“They were acting on Huo Rong’s orders.”

Wujie chuckled, a smile gracing his celestial face.

“Father, it seems General Huo… is very displeased with you.”

“Hmph.” Feng Xiaohan snorted.

Qing’an and Wenshu exchanged glances and smiled.

That man was still so audacious, engaging in such foolish and laughable acts.

“Send them to Zhao Prison.” Feng Xiaohan commanded.

“Yes.”

Wenshu escorted the prisoners to Zhao Prison, where screams erupted.

Wenshu covered his ears. Yan Chuan was truly energetic, interrogating people even in the dead of night.

“Yan Chuan, I’m bringing you two more.”

A harmless-looking young man turned to look at Wenshu.

If one ignored the knife in his hand, he did look harmless.

“It seems you’ve already interrogated them.” Yan Chuan observed the battered state of the two prisoners.

“These were the ones who tried to assassinate the master.” Wenshu waved his hand, signaling for them to be locked up.

“Who did it?” Yan Chuan’s eyes hardened.

“The confession points to Huo Rong.” Wenshu smiled.

Upon hearing the name, Yan Chuan burst into laughter.

“Huo Rong, is it? I hope he doesn’t fall into my hands, or he’ll be in for a world of pain.” The kind face of Yan Chuan lost its smile.

“How is the Prince doing recently?” Yan Chuan asked.

“Same as always.” Wenshu glanced towards a dark corner.

“Sigh.” Yan Chuan sighed.

“I’m going now.” Wenshu turned to his friend.

Yan Chuan looked towards the place Wenshu had just been looking.

“He’s cautious, isn’t he?”

“Now he should be completely convinced that the Prince and General Huo are at odds.” A cold smile flickered across Wenshu’s face.

“How is the Prince doing recently?” Yan Chuan asked with concern.

“His Highness just had his pulse taken; he’s fine.”

Only then did Yan Chuan relax.

“Then I’ll be going. Get some rest.” Wenshu glanced at the pitiful prisoners.

“Go ahead, no need to be see me off.”

Before Wenshu had even left the gate, he heard another piercing scream.

Goodness.  How terrible.

At the Prince’s Mansion,

Wujie, being unwell, was sent home by Feng Xiaohan to rest.

At Jiang’s Residence, Jiang Gu was at the so-called system.

Jiang Gu thought for a moment and recharged one tael and two coins.

[Recharge successful]

Jiang Gu waited a while, the recharge was successful, but then what?

That’s it?

This is a scam.

Jiang Gu closed the system. Tomorrow was a day off; he would wait for her in his room.

He had to get some answers.

The next day, Jiang Gu had his books moved to his room.

Today, he would wait patiently.

Meanwhile, Yu Yu was weaving through the streets, delivering food.

“Here’s your juice, please take it.” Yu Yu handed the juice to the customer.

“Thank you.”

“Yu Yu, help me deliver this.” A person dressed in glittering gold beckoned.
