Chapter 36: Feng Xiaohan’s Willfulness
Feng Xiaohan covered his nose after being hit in the face with a book.
This unfilial daughter.
“You can only eat half a piece.” Feng Xiaohan reminded her.
“Got it.” Yu Yu responded.
Then her gaze was fixed intently on Qing’an as he cut the milk cake.
“Brother Qing’an, that’s too much; you’ve cut more than half!” Yu Yu transformed into a cake-slicing judge.
Qing’an moved a bit to the side, thinking he was just trying to give the little princess a little more.
He didn’t expect the little princess to be so principled; when she said half, she meant just that—not a bite more or less.
After Qing’an divided the cake, Yu Yu took her half of the milk cake to show her father.
“Father, look, it’s really half!”
“Indeed, you are a child with integrity and principles,” Feng Xiaohan generously praised his daughter.
At this moment, it was important to lavish praise on his daughter for doing the right thing.
Yu Yu proudly lifted her little head, looking like a kitten that had just received compliments.
“Eat quickly, and after you finish, let Qing’an help you bathe and change.” Feng Xiaohan patted his daughter’s chubby little face.
“Okay.”
After Yu Yu finished the milk cake, Qing’an picked her up to take a bath.
“Brother Qing’an, tomorrow I want to wear a green dress.” The vain Yu Yu had already decided what to wear the next day.
“Alright.” Qing’an replied gently.
Yunming arrived at Jiang Gu’s residence with a food box.
“Eldest Prince, this is for you.”
Jiang Gu opened the food box to find it filled with blood-nourishing dishes.
It seemed that his father had already learned about today’s events.
“Good.”
Yunming served the dishes and took the food box away, as such items could easily expose the Eldest Prince’s situation, so it had to be removed.
After Yunming left, Jiang Gu poured a bowl of soup for himself.
The first sip tasted bitter, causing his tongue to tingle.
He grimaced at the bitterness, realizing that the soup was infused with his father’s anger.
“Father is upset.” Jiang Gu knew that this bowl of soup contained all of his father’s wrath, so to appease his father, he had to drink it all.
After finishing the entire bowl of soup, Jiang Gu was left with a mouthful of bitterness, questioning what exactly was in it.
Only after eating two pieces of amber candy given to him by his sister did the bitterness subside.
In Wangchuan Courtyard, after Yu Yu finished her bath, she was in high spirits while Qing’an accompanied her in weaving flower ropes.
Feng Xiaohan had gone to the study to listen to reports from his subordinates.
“Many ministerial residences are currently being monitored by the emperor’s men.”
“At the merchant association, there are people opposing the eldest daughter.”
“What news from Wuyou?” Feng Xiaohan inquired.
“Third Young Master says that the emperor has instructed Zhang Shang to secretly find him young and handsome men,” Wenshu said with disgust.
Yan Chuan’s eyes widened in shock.
The dog emperor actually has this peculiar taste?
“He also plans to marry the second daughter of the virtuous king to General Huo, aiming to win him over.”
Feng Xiaohan listened quietly without speaking.
Yan Chuan was puzzled. “Why not marry the princess to General Huo? That would strengthen the ties even more.”
“You fool, the prince has no real power. What the emperor wants is someone who can confront the prince but remains under his control,” Wenshu explained.
So the daughter of his biological brother would be just right.
Yan Chuan understood suddenly. So that’s how it is.
“Does Wuqing know about this?” Feng Xiaohan asked softly.
“Probably not. The Third Young Master has a knack for watching the excitement and likely won’t tell the Second Young Master,” Wenshu believed the Third Young Master would not inform the Second Young Master about the emperor’s marriage proposal.
“Make sure to inform Wuqing beforehand,” to avoid being caught unprepared later.
“Yes.”
Feng Xiaohan instructed a few more matters before heading to the bedroom.
In the bedroom, Qing’an watched over the sleeping Yu Yu.
The little princess had fallen asleep while weaving flower ropes.
Hearing the sound of wheels rolling, Qing’an stood up to greet.
“Your Highness.”
“Go rest,” Feng Xiaohan said softly.
“Yes, I’ll take my leave now.” Qing’an quietly exited and closed the door.
Feng Xiaohan watched his sleeping daughter for a while before going to bathe.
After his bath, Feng Xiaohan sat by the window for a moment. The frequent rains lately had caused a dull ache in his legs.
After a while, he tried to stand up but found his legs, which had been injured and had their tendons severed, felt weak.
He had to lean against the wall for support.
He attempted to take a step, but his legs felt as heavy as lead.
With a bitter smile, Feng Xiaohan sat back down in his wheelchair.
There must be a way; having climbed from slavery to the position of Regent Prince, Feng Xiaohan was not the kind of person to easily succumb to despair.
He would only think about how to break the impasse, how to carve a path in dire circumstances.
After blowing a cool breeze for a while, he slowly rolled his wheelchair to bed.
The next day, Feng Xiaohan felt unwell all over and found his nose stuffed.
After a while, a cool handkerchief was placed on his forehead.
He could faintly hear his daughter’s voice.
“Brother Qing’an, what’s wrong with Father?” Yu Yu worriedly leaned over the bedside to look at her father.
“The prince has a slight fever.” Qing’an added another blanket over Feng Xiaohan.
“Little princess, let me check your forehead.” Qing’an, still uneasy, reached out to feel Yu Yu’s forehead for a fever.
Yu Yu obediently leaned her little head closer to Qing’an’s hand.
Fortunately, Qing’an withdrew his hand.
“Do you want to go play outside?” He was worried that the prince’s cold might infect the little princess.
“No, I want to stay with Father.” Yu Yu shook her head, wanting to be with her father.
Qing’an brought a face mask for Yu Yu to wear.
“Brother Qing’an, why does Yu Yu have to wear this?”
“Because the little princess is still young and easily gets sick, so you need to wear it,” Qing’an explained gently to Yu Yu.
“The little princess doesn’t want to get sick and take medicine, right?”
“I don’t want to!” As soon as she heard about medicine, Yu Yu shook her head vigorously, resembling a rattle drum.
Wenshu was outside boiling medicine, sitting on a small stool while waving a fan over the small stove.
Yan Chuan entered with a bowl of porridge and some side dishes.
Qing’an helped Feng Xiaohan sit up and placed a soft pillow for him to lean against comfortably.
“Your Highness, please drink some porridge.” Qing’an brought the porridge to Feng Xiaohan.
Feng Xiaohan felt uncomfortable and had little appetite.
“I don’t want to eat.”
“Father, eat a little, please.” Yu Yu coaxed her slightly spoiled, sick father in a soft voice.
“I don’t want to.” Feng Xiaohan turned his head away, spoiled by his daughter.
“Father, just a little bit, please.” Yu Yu took her father’s hand and stuffed the spoon into his hand.
“I have no strength; I don’t want to move.” Feng Xiaohan felt weak all over.
“Yu Yu will feed you!”
Yu Yu stood on a stool and scooped a spoonful of porridge to feed her father.
Feng Xiaohan opened his mouth and took a sip, finding it tasteless.
“Side dishes.”
“Okay.” Yu Yu picked up a large chopstick full of pickled vegetables to give to her father.
The saltiness made Feng Xiaohan’s head throb.
“Feng Wuyu, are you trying to kill your only father with salt?”
“Then drink a sip of porridge,” Yu Yu coaxed her ailing father.
Yan Chuan and Qing’an exchanged glances.
Is the prince being willful?
Qing’an blinked, indicating that he was.
The prince no longer pretended to be the invincible figure; in front of the little princess, he could be willful, bicker, and even act childish.
Because the prince knew that the little princess would indulge him and pamper him, he could behave so openly.
In the little princess’s eyes, the prince was not the omnipotent, powerful deity who needed no one’s tolerance or affection. He was just an ordinary father, and ordinary people could be weak, unreasonable, and willful.
After Feng Xiaohan drank a bowl of porridge, he happily ordered his daughter to peel him some tangerines.
Yu Yu obediently peeled the tangerines for her father and then brought them to his mouth.
