Chapter 39: Coming to Discuss Something with Yu Yu’s Father
“Thank you, Father.” Yu Yu, who had been unhappy about not being able to eat her favorite fritters, instantly forgot her displeasure upon seeing the chicken leg.
Feng Xiaohan looked at his daughter, thinking how easy she was to please.
After finishing dinner, as usual, Qing’an came in to help Yu Yu bathe and change into her nightgown.
Yan Chuan came in to play with Yu Yu for a while before leaving.
Later that night, Qing’an knocked on the door.
“Your Highness, Wujie has returned.”
“Come in.” Feng Xiaohan had been waiting up for his adopted son to return.
Qing’an quietly entered, helping Feng Xiaohan into his wheelchair to move to the slightly cool courtyard.
Lin Zhi had just finished bathing and was applying medicine to himself when he instinctively stood up upon hearing the sound of the wheelchair.
“Sit still.” Feng Xiaohan spoke first.
Lin Zhi obediently sat back down.
“Father hasn’t gone to sleep so late?”
“Hmph, with you rebellious children around, how could I possibly sleep?” Feng Xiaohan replied coldly.
One nearly got himself killed on an outing, and another injured himself; it was no surprise he couldn’t sleep.
“Wujie is causing concern for Fathe!?” Lin Zhi admitted his fault.
“I know you went to find that medicine for me, but next time, don’t treat your life so lightly. Just wait and see how I’ll deal with you,” Feng Xiaohan said, being tough on the outside but soft on the inside.
“Understood.” Lin Zhi nodded obediently.
Feng Xiaohan reached out, and Lin Zhi offered his hand.
With his daughter not present, he couldn’t see, so he had to touch to confirm his adopted son was truly alright.
“As long as you’re safe,” Feng Xiaohan withdrew his hand.
“It’s late; you should rest early.” After instructing, Feng Xiaohan let Qing’an push him back inside.
Lin Zhi stood with his cane, watching his father leave.
The next morning, during breakfast, Yu Yu looked astonished at Lin Zhi, who was smiling at her.
“Good morning, Yu Yu.” Lin Zhi greeted her with a slight smile.
“Good morning, Brother Lin Zhi.” Yu Yu snapped back to reality and greeted her brother.
“Hm? You two know each other?” Feng Xiaohan asked, puzzled.
“When I was in danger, it was Yu Yu who saved me,” Lin Zhi explained about the incident at the cliff.
Feng Xiaohan nodded in understanding; since they already knew each other, there was no need for further introductions.
“Come and eat.” Feng Xiaohan beckoned to his daughter.
“Mm-hmm.”
After Yu Yu finished eating, she went to the town to work.
At the pharmacy, the Medical Immortal was sorting herbs.
Still dressed in green, he had a gentle demeanor like flowing water.
“Yu Yu is here.” The Medical Immortal looked up to see Yu Yu standing at the entrance.
“Medical Immortal Brother , have some jujubes.” Yu Yu pulled out two jujubes from her bag to give to him.
“Thank you, Yu Yu.” The Medical Immortal accepted the jujubes with his slender hands.
Yu Yu set down her bag and stood on a stool to help the Medical Immortal sort the herbs.
The Medical Immortal seemed a bit distracted, several times placing good herbs into the discard pile.
Yu Yu silently picked them up again and glanced at her brother.
What was going on with Medical Immortal Brother today?
“Medical Immortal Brother , are you feeling unwell?”
“It’s nothing, just a bit bothered,” the Medical Immortal said, momentarily stunned, before smiling slightly to indicate he was fine.
Yu Yu sighed.
Sigh, adults have so many worries; she didn’t want to grow up.
She feared that one day, she would have gray hair from worrying.
With the new herbs needing sorting, the pharmacy had received a large batch of new ingredients, so Yu Yu spent the entire morning helping the Medical Immortal sort them.
After several misplacements due to his distraction, the Medical Immortal realized he wasn’t suited for this meticulous task.
So he began to pound the herbs.
Bang, bang, bang.
The sound of pounding herbs grew increasingly irritating.
The Medical Immortal took a deep breath, trying to calm his agitated mind.
After taking three deep breaths, it still didn’t help; he remained restless.
Yu Yu looked up at the Medical Immortal, rarely seeing him in such an unusual state.
He must be dealing with something significant.
So, Yu Yu set down the herbs in her hand and trotted outside.
The Medical Immortal continued to pound the herbs, his focus waning.
Bang, bang, bang…
After a while, Yu Yu returned with a bamboo tube and handed it to the Medical Immortal.
“Medical Immortal Brother , have some juice.”
The Medical Immortal looked at the fruit drink before him, momentarily stunned before accepting it.
“Thank you, Yu Yu.” The Medical Immortal touched Yu Yu’s head, feeling a bit moved.
“You’re welcome.” Yu Yu obediently sat next to the Medical Immortal.
After taking a sip of the cold drink, the agitation in the Medical Immortal’s heart finally began to dissipate.
“Do you want some?” Yu Yu asked.
This drink was newly opened at the market, and it was particularly popular, with long lines of people waiting to buy it.
However, Yu Yu didn’t have to wait in line because this shop was owned by brother Youqian, right across from the Qingyi Bookstore.
“Yes, I do.” The Medical Immortal nodded.
“Yay! Then on my way back, I’ll buy two cups for Father and Brother!” Yu Yu said happily.
The Medical Immortal looked at Yu Yu, remembering that her father was quite powerful in that world and thought he might be able to ask for his help.
“Yu Yu, I’d like to ask you for a favor.”
“What kind of favor?” Yu Yu looked at the Medical Immortal curiously.
“It’s just that I want to find a certain herb. Can you ask your father to help look for it? Of course, if we find it, as a reward, I can help treat his eyes and legs.”
“Really?!” Yu Yu’s eyes sparkled as she looked at the Medical Immortal.
The Medical Immortal nodded.
“What herb is it?” Yu Yu eagerly asked.
“Divine Moon Flower. Its petals are moon-white and emit a faint golden glow under the moonlight, while the leaves are black.” The Medical Immortal described the appearance of the Divine Moon Flower.
The Divine Moon Flower had strong regenerative abilities, and he needed it to save someone.
“Divine Moon Flower?” Yu Yu murmured.
It sounded like the flower her brother had brought back, which was also called the Divine Moon Flower.
“Medical Immortal Brother , we might have that flower at home.”
“Really?!” The Medical Immortal stood up, unusually excited.
“Yu Yu isn’t sure if it’s the flower you want, though.” Yu Yu was also unsure if it was the right flower.
She had heard her brother mention the name, Divine Moon Flower, but she had never seen what it looked like.
“Let’s go to your house and take a look.” The Medical Immortal picked up Yu Yu and headed toward the Regent Prince’s Mansion.
When the steward at the Peony Pavilion learned that the Medical Immortal was taking Yu Yu to the Regent Prince’s Mansion, he exclaimed in surprise.
“I can’t believe it!”
He hadn’t guessed wrong; the Medical Immortal was indeed a person of high status, otherwise, how could he have such authority?
This kid hid it quite well.
Yu Yu and the Medical Immortal arrived at the Regent Prince’s Mansion.
“Father? Brother Lin Zhi?”
Yu Yu called out in her sweet voice.
Wenshu heard the commotion and came in.
“The little princess is back so early…” Wenshu’s eyes widened in alert upon seeing the Medical Immortal.
“I’m a friend of Yu Yu’s, intruding upon you, I hope for your understanding.” The Medical Immortal slightly bowed in apology.
Wenshu looked at the little princess, who showed no signs of fear or panic.
Then this person was temporarily not a threat.
“May I ask why you’ve come, young master?” Wenshu waved for Yu Yu to come over, keeping a vigilant eye on the Medical Immortal.
The Medical Immortal smiled gently.
“I came to discuss something with Yu Yu’s father.”
Wenshu picked up the little princess.
“It’s regarding the treatment of the eyes and legs.” The Medical Immortal stated his purpose, hoping Wenshu would believe him.
“Please wait here.”
Wenshu took the little princess to the study.
“Father.” Yu Yu happily called out.
Feng Xiaohan turned his head toward his daughter’s direction.
“You’re back quite early today.”
“Your Highness, the little princess’s friend wishes to see you,” Wenshu reported after bowing.
“Your friend? Who is it?” Feng Xiaohan asked, a bit puzzled.
His daughter had never ventured out, so how had she made a friend?
“It’s Medical Immortal Brother .”
Feng Xiaohan suddenly realized that he was a friend from his daughter’s side.
“Qing’an, prepare for him.” Feng Xiaohan instructed.
Since it was his daughter’s friend, he should receive him properly.
“Yes.”
