Chapter 28
“But when they reached the entrance of the Governor’s Mansion, Old Zhang said he was afraid Mrs. Wei would suspect he was the Young Marshal’s man and refused to go up.
Jinye asked the gatekeeper for help, and Old Zhang said, “With so much money, it’s safer for Miss to deliver it personally. If anything goes wrong in between, no one can explain it.”
Jinye thought about it and agreed. She had to carry it up herself.
She had been to the Governor’s Mansion several times, and many people recognized her. She had no problem getting in.
When she arrived outside the office, the door was ajar. Deputy Shen happened to walk by and shouted, “Third Miss!”
Deputy Shen glanced inside and asked, “Third Miss, are you here to see the Young Marshal?”
Jinye said, “Please give this to him.”
It should be safe to give it to his deputy, right?
The box was heavy, and Deputy Shen almost couldn’t hold it. “What’s so heavy in this box?”
“Shut up.” A voice came from inside the office, it was Wei Liangchen.
His eyes were dark, as if everyone owed him a thousand or eight hundred million. His words were squeezed out from between his teeth, “Not bad, you’re pretty efficient. I underestimated you.”
Before Jinye could speak, a voice interrupted, “Little Jin is here.”
Ning Xiujun came from the direction of the restroom, her hand still wet, she touched her wrist and looked at Wei Liangchen, complaining, “It’s all your fault, you were so rough just now, my hand is sore.”
“You’re just too weak.” Wei Liangchen said impatiently.
Ning Xiujun smiled sweetly, “Yes, you’re strong. We’re going to have Western food, are you coming, Little Jin?”
Wei Liangchen’s dark eyes were fixed on Jinye, they were almost like a bundle of arrows.
Jinye glanced at him. His military uniform collar was half open, revealing a faint red mark on his neck. She immediately looked away, “No need, I’ll eat at home.”
As she turned, she saw his desk was in a mess, with documents scattered all over the floor.
Jinye remembered that last winter, she came to his office, he held her on his lap to keep her warm, and as they held each other, they moved to the desk. At that time, there were also documents scattered all over the floor.
Combined with Ning Xiujun’s words, it was hard not to think about it.
But, what did it have to do with her? They were no longer in that relationship.
She didn’t see that behind her, Wei Liangchen’s face was dark and ominous, like the sky before a storm.
“Young, Young Marshal? I came to tell you that the Happy Delight Western Restaurant is fully booked.” Deputy Shen said nervously.
The Young Marshal was particularly angry today. Earlier, the secretary sent him a document with a typo, and he scolded the person until they were speechless, and even threw all the documents.
“If that’s the case, then don’t eat.” Wei Liangchen turned and went into the office.
Ning Xiujun’s nails almost dug into her palm.
It’s just a Western restaurant, how could a distinguished Young Marshal, who can even book the largest cinema in Su City, not get a reservation?
Yes, her people found out that the Ballroom Mrs. Liu mentioned was the Ballroom Hotel, and Wei Liangchen was there, holding a woman.
Because she had already suspected that something was going on between Xu Jinye and the Young Marshal, she had investigated Xu Jinye.
It turned out that Xu Jinye went out to watch a movie that night.
But at that time, the cinema said the machine was broken and refunded tickets to the audience. What did she watch? A nearby vendor saw a military officer holding a girl coming out of the cinema.
So, it wasn’t the machine that was broken, but Wei Liangchen booked the whole place.
She had thought he was at the hospital all night.
After observing them today, she was even more convinced that they were having an affair.
A hint of hatred flashed in Ning Xiujun’s eyes…
Mrs. Wei called the Governor’s Mansion and asked the Young Marshal to come home for dinner.
Before dinner was ready, she went to the third floor, “Did you really go to the Ballroom last night?”
Wei Liangchen had just changed clothes, his shirt buttons were not fully buttoned, revealing a red mark on his neck. Mrs. Wei was startled, “What’s wrong with your neck?”
“Do you believe it was a mosquito bite?” He sneered, “You’re always idle, you should spend more time caring about my father.”
“Your father is less troublesome than you.”
Since Xu Xiaoyun’s incident, the Governor has been much more well-behaved. He rarely goes to the other two concubines’ places, and he almost always returns to the main villa except for inspections.
Mrs. Wei stared at the red mark, her tone serious:
“I don’t care how you feel about Ning Xiujun, she is the daughter-in-law that your grandfather and the Governor have chosen. You must show her respect on the surface. If you have any women outside, it’s best to cut them off. If you can’t, then hide them well.”
Wei Liangchen was impatient, “Where did you see me having a woman?”
“It’s best if you don’t.” The son is grown up, Mrs. Wei can’t push him too hard,
“If she’s from a good family, after you get married, you can take her in if you want. But forget about any singers, actresses, etc. Your brother is a government official, the Minister resigned, the Deputy Minister is going to be promoted, and the Deputy Minister’s position is vacant. You understand.”
The Wei family now not only wants money, but also greater power.
The family gradually shifted from military to politics.
Wei Liangchen joined the military.
Wei Yanting went into politics.
“The Wei family is no longer just a bunch of military brutes. They are more careful about their reputation and can’t tolerate so many rumors. They also don’t want to take too many risks, so they won’t attack Huan Province and choose to marry into the Ning family and form an alliance.” Mrs. Wei said.
Wei Liangchen was annoyed and sneered, “Then why don’t you let my brother marry Ning Xiujun?”
Mrs. Wei: “Your brother said that when the country is in trouble, how can he think about his family? He won’t get married.”
“Why can’t I?”
“You can’t.”
“Humph, it’s his marriage, you can’t decide, right?” Wei Liangchen’s eyes were dark and his tone was full of sarcasm, “You all favor him and use me as a sacrifice.”
He, the Young Marshal, is the general who fought for the father and son to conquer the world and charge at the forefront.
Mrs. Wei smiled, her eyes unfathomable, “It’s because you are my biological son that you must get married. Besides, is Ning Xiujun that bad?”
Wei Liangchen didn’t want to say another word about this woman, “What about the Zhou family? What’s the reason for choosing the Zhou family?”
“The Yun Gang has been controlling the waterways. That’s why we let Little Jin go on a blind date with the Crown Prince of the Yun Gang. Who knew that the Crown Prince was crippled, and Little Jin didn’t get married. Now, half of the waterways have gone to Young Master Zhou, and Young Master Zhou happens to like Little Jin.”
“Is there such a coincidence?” Wei Liangchen’s eyes flashed with anger.
Suddenly, his ears twitched and his voice became louder, “Could it be that they are after Miss Xu’s looks?”
Mrs. Wei smiled, “That’s how men are. So-called love at first sight is just lust at first sight. Little Jin is not only good-looking, she’s beautiful. Not to mention my cultivation.”
Xu Jinye is a burden. If they don’t want her beauty, what do they want?
Mrs. Wei sent her to a girls’ school, where she learned piano, dance, etiquette, and dressing. She lacked nothing.
“Even Jiaxin’s stepdaughters don’t get as good treatment.”
She should repay the Wei family.
Wei Liangchen snorted coldly, his face annoyed. He suddenly looked at the door, “Is dinner ready?”
Jinye walked over, “Yes, it’s ready. Mrs. Wei and Second Brother, please come down for dinner.”
It was clearly him who threatened her. A hairpin fell on his bed, and he asked her to come up and get it, otherwise he would take it down and ask her in public.
Who knew Mrs. Wei was also there.
She didn’t deliberately eavesdrop, but she only heard the reason for choosing the Zhou family, until Mrs. Wei said about lust at first sight.
Zhou Siwei was lusting at first sight, what about him?
Wasn’t he also driven by lust and adrenaline when he was with her?
They broke up only a day ago, and he can accept someone else.
Mrs. Wei guessed that she might have heard a little bit, but she didn’t avoid it, because she knew Jinye always knew her place. She smiled, “Zhou Siwei is handsome and rich. The Zhou family men rarely take concubines. It’s your good fortune.”
Jinye smiled slightly and replied, “I know, thank you, Mrs. Wei.”
Wei Liangchen stared at her, his eyes suddenly filled with coldness.
Jinye didn’t look at him.
“Alright, let’s go eat.” Mrs. Wei walked ahead.
Jinye quickly followed.
The person behind suddenly asked, “Where’s your bracelet?”
Jinye pressed her wrist, her voice a little shaky, “I didn’t wear it today.”
“Really?” The coldness reached her feet.
