Chapter 32
Early the next morning, Jinye found a place to hide the boots.
She also cleared all traces he had left behind.
Then she found one of his shirts and a belt in the closet and packed them up to throw them away.
She had just finished washing up when she heard the servants calling out, “Young Master Zhou is here.”
Zhou Siwei was wearing a gray long gown today, and he was also wearing a hat. He was handsome and elegant, and the servants in the courtyard couldn’t take their eyes off him.
Jinye walked out and saw the food box in his hand. Her eyes lit up, “Is it breakfast from that teahouse again?”
“Yes, I heard you like it last time, so I brought some when I passed by.”
“That’s quite a distance to pass by.” Jinye laughed.
Zhou’s mansion was in the east of the city, and the teahouse was in the south.
Zhou Siwei laughed uncomfortably.
“You don’t have to go out of your way next time.” Jinye felt a little guilty. She took the food box and smiled, “Let’s eat together.”
She realized that life without that guy was really great.
Mrs. Wei said that the weather was good today, sunny and cool. They ate under the awning in the front yard garden.
Jinye called Jiaxin over. The concubine’s courtyard was not far from the main villa, and Jiaqi hadn’t woken up yet.
“Where’s the Young Marshal?” Zhou Siwei asked.
“He? He probably won’t get up until noon.” Mrs. Wei said that he drank too much last night, he vomited downstairs in the middle of the night, and then he finally went back to sleep.
Jinye paused her movements as she ate the shrimp dumplings, pretending she hadn’t heard anything.
“Young Master Zhou? So early?” It was Ning Xiujun’s voice.
She didn’t expect her to be here.
Ning Xiujun’s frequent visits to the Governor’s Mansion were encouraged by Mrs. Wei. Of course, she had to seize the opportunity.
After everyone greeted each other, Ning Xiujun said, “I made a date with the Young Marshal for breakfast yesterday, but it seems he hasn’t gotten up yet.”
Mrs. Wei said, “I’ll go wake him up.”
“No need, let him sleep. Otherwise, I’m afraid he’ll fall asleep during the movie tonight.” Ning Xiujun sat down, acting like a hostess.
Wei Jiaxin glanced at her and whispered to Jinye, “Will Second Brother marry her? Then what about Miss Ling…”
Jinye interrupted, “Shh, it’s none of our business.”
Don’t ruin her appetite.
Ning Xiujun sat opposite them, looked at Jinye and Zhou Siwei, and smiled, “Young Master Zhou is here to send Little Jin to school, what a thoughtful gentleman. I heard you two are getting engaged soon.”
Also?
Jinye was stunned and looked at Zhou Siwei.
Zhou Siwei smiled and looked at her too, his expression gentle, “I was thinking about it, but Jinye is still young. Let’s spend some time together first, no rush.”
Jinye breathed a sigh of relief.
Suddenly, his hand reached out to her ear. Jinye was startled again, then she saw that he was holding a leaf, “It fell from the wisteria flower.”
The morning breeze blew, moving a strand of hair from his forehead. Underneath, his brown eyes were gentle and profound. Jinye was stunned for a moment.
“Thank you.”
“So considerate~!” Wei Jiaxin covered her mouth and giggled.
Jinye glared at her lightly and quickly lowered her head to eat.
Ning Xiujun smiled, “What a perfect match, a handsome man and a beautiful woman.” She glanced at the third floor. Perhaps it was the wind blowing, but the curtains moved.
After breakfast, Zhou Siwei sent Jinye to school. Wei Jiaxin was very considerate and took Old Zhang’s car. After all, the Governor’s Mansion didn’t lack cars and gas money.
Zhou Siwei said he wanted to invite her to the movies tonight. Jinye refused, saying she had a lot to do today and had to go to the Judicial Department.
She didn’t want to hide anything about her situation. She told him about her relationship with her uncle’s family and how they were taking over her aunt’s property.
Zhou Siwei said he could help by talking to the Judicial Department. This time, Jinye didn’t refuse.
“This is my home and office phone number. If you need anything, feel free to call me.” He wrote down two numbers on a piece of paper with a pen.
His handwriting was as elegant as he was.
“Thank you.” Jinye smiled.
Maybe heaven was starting to favor her.
One window closed, but another one opened.
There weren’t many classes in the afternoon. Cheng Yi and the others went to the streets to protest. She went to the Judicial Department.
Perhaps Zhou Siwei had spoken to them, the process was very smooth, and the summons would soon be delivered to her uncle.
After finishing her business, Jinye went to the school library to find some materials. As she passed by the teaching building, she suddenly saw Cheng Yi running out in a hurry, her face full of anxiety.
“Cheng Yi, what happened?”
“Jinye, it’s not good. Zhang Zhilin and many other students have been arrested. I’m going to find the principal to save them.”
Jinye’s heart skipped a beat. It finally happened, “Where is he now?”
“At the police station.”
Outside the police station, there was a crowd of people.
Many students were protesting, and the guards were maintaining order.
Cheng Yi said that Zhang Zhilin was taken away because he had spoken harshly to the students in front of him and had a conflict with the guards.
Jinye comforted her, “Don’t worry, the police station arrested them probably to intimidate the students. They shouldn’t be in danger of their lives for now.”
After the incident, the school leaders went to the police station to negotiate as soon as possible, but they only released a few people. Zhang Zhilin was not among them.
According to the released students, they were released quickly because they had a good attitude and their families paid money.
Zhang Zhilin’s family was not poor, and his parents also paid money, but he was not released.
The principal came back and said it was because Zhang Zhilin’s case was particularly serious. The higher-ups said he couldn’t be released.
Zhang’s father and mother were worried, “What should we do?”
Cheng Yi said, “We’ll stay at the police station gate all night with the other students and call for more people to come. We won’t believe they won’t release him.”
Several other students who came with them also agreed angrily.
Jinye pulled Cheng Yi, “Don’t be impulsive, let’s wait and see.”
Minister Zhou wasn’t here, and she didn’t know anyone else at the police station.
Actually, most of the time, she felt like an observer. To her friends: Go ahead, victory will belong to you.
To her enemies: Wait, as long as I’m alive, I can outlast you.
This kind of salted fish attitude.
But Cheng Yi and Zhang Zhilin were her few friends in this world, people who liked her. They were the hope of this world, but they might not live to see victory and die on the road to progress.
She couldn’t stand by and do nothing.
Jinye didn’t want to go beg the certain someone who was going to watch a movie. She thought for a moment, took out the piece of paper with the phone number written on it, and made a call to Zhou’s mansion.
“Hello, I’m looking for Zhou Siwei.”
Zhou Siwei wasn’t home, he was still at the office. After receiving the call, he told her to be patient, he would be there soon.
“Thank you.” Jinye went back to the crowd.
The police station drove away all the family members and closed the door.
At the same time, several military jeeps entered from the side door where cars were allowed to enter, followed by many guards. The students wanted to go over to appeal, but they were stopped…
Meanwhile, at the Governor’s Mansion.
Ning Xiujun was in the hall. She was wearing a long red dress, her hair was permed, and she was wearing high heels. Her whole person exuded a fashionable and glamorous aura.
“Sister Ning, you look so beautiful today. Are you going to the movies with my brother?” Wei Jiaqi asked.
Ning Xiujun smiled, “Yes, the eight o’clock show. I still have some time.”
“Booked the whole place?” That’s her brother’s style.
Ning Xiujun smiled with a hint of sarcasm, “We’re going to the movies openly, why would we book the whole place?”
Wei Jiaqi thought, what does that have to do with being open or not?
“Oh, it’s seven o’clock. I should be leaving too, so I won’t keep your brother waiting.”
Because Wei Liangchen went to the government office at noon and didn’t come back, so they agreed to meet outside the cinema.
Outside the police station.
Zhou Siwei’s office was far away, so it took him more than half an hour to arrive, “Sorry, I’m late.”
Jinye greeted him and briefly explained the situation.
Actually, Zhou Siwei had also heard about it from his secretary on the way, “I’ll go negotiate now.”
Minister Zhou wasn’t here, but the Deputy Minister recognized Young Master Zhou. He immediately let them in and told everyone else, except Jinye, to stay outside.
“Zhang Zhilin is Young Master Zhou’s friend, so naturally, we need to take care of him. Don’t worry, they won’t torture him, but—” the Deputy Minister was a little embarrassed and pulled Zhou Siwei aside. He didn’t know what he was saying, and Jinye couldn’t hear.
Soon, Zhou Siwei came back, “Wait here, I’ll go see Zhang Zhilin in the interrogation room.”
After about fifteen minutes, he came back and said that Zhang Zhilin wasn’t hurt.
Jinye breathed a sigh of relief, “Can he be released?”
Zhou Siwei looked apologetic, “They said Zhang Zhilin’s situation is a bit special, so he can’t be released for now.”
“What’s so special?”
