Chapter 33
Jiang Yu was bewildered. How had her casual answers turned into a diagnosis of mild depression?
She attempted to reason with Jiang Zhe, “Should we go to another hospital?”
“I’m so healthy, lively, and cheerful; how could I possibly be depressed?”
Jiang Yu refused to believe it.
Jiang Zhe wasn’t entirely convinced either, so he agreed to take her to another hospital. This time, Jiang Yu filled out the questionnaire very seriously, but the result was still mild depression.
Jiang Yu: ?
She wasn’t working or taking care of a child, and her life was happy. How could she possibly be mildly depressed? This was just… absurd!
She turned to the man in the driver’s seat and suggested, “Shouldn’t we go to an even more authoritative place for a checkup?”
At that moment, she suddenly had a revelation.
Perhaps going to another hospital would yield the same results; maybe, by some unseen force, she needed a reason to explain her previous odd behavior.
If she had depression, then she could explain it to her family and friends.
Fine then.
Since that was the case, she wouldn’t fight it. “Forget it, I won’t go. If I’m depressed, then so be it; at least I don’t have to take medication.”
Jiang Zhe looked worried. “Should we get another test tomorrow?”
Jiang Yu smiled brightly at him. “You think I’m fine, don’t you?”
Jiang Yu felt touched by his trust in her. He was such a good husband.
Jiang Zhe furrowed his brows. “No, I’m worried that your symptoms might be worse than they appear.”
Jiang Yu felt disappointed and lazily slumped in her seat. “Are you worried I might do something irrational?”
“Yes.”
“You’re worried I might jump off a building?”
“Yes.” He felt that since she had just returned, it was important to be cautious regarding her health.
“Let’s do a physical checkup tomorrow.”
If he weren’t driving, Jiang Yu would have wanted to hit him.
“You should jump off a building; your whole family should jump off a building! Hmph!”
Jiang Zhe: …
He chuckled, “I won’t.”
After all, she had just come back; there was no way he would think about jumping off a building.
Jiang Yu huffed, “Neither will I!”
Jiang Zhe nodded. “Then we’re both fine. We’ll be happy together.”
When they returned home that night, her parents hadn’t left yet. As soon as they saw Jiang Yu and Jiang Zhe come in, they anxiously asked about her test results.
“How did it go? Jiang Yu is fine, right?”
Jiang Yu said, “What could possibly be wrong—”
Just then, Jiang Zhe chimed in, “She has mild depression. We’ll go check again tomorrow.”
Mother Jiang became worried, “What, what, what…?”
“Alright, we’ll go for another check.”
“It’s no wonder she’s had such drastic personality changes…”
Mother Jiang’s eyes were filled with concern for her daughter.
Jiang Yu touched her nose, unsure if she was deceiving them.
Soon after, her parents left, but before they did, they repeatedly reminded her, “Jiang Yu, if you ever feel upset about anything, just call Mom and Dad. We’ll be there in no time, okay?”
Jiang Yu felt warm inside. This made her think of the situations of some mothers she had seen online who were struggling after childbirth. They had already gone through so much pain, and when they experienced postpartum depression, their families just thought they were being melodramatic. Jiang Yu felt fortunate not to have encountered such hardships; both Jiang Zhe and her parents cared about her.
“I’m fine, really.”
“Did the doctor prescribe you any medication?”
“No.”
“What did the doctor say?”
“He said I just need to relax and that my family should support me more. Jiang Zhe knows all of this, right?”
Jiang Zhe nodded. “I’ll take her out for a walk tomorrow.”
“Good.”
Father Jiang and Mother Jiang quickly left. The nanny was watching the baby while Jiang Yu exchanged glances with Jiang Zhe in the living room. She asked, “You don’t really believe I’m ill, do you?”
“Believe what?”
“That I’m sick.”
“I don’t think your drastic personality change was due to that.”
Jiang Zhe thought she didn’t want to talk about it, but when she brought it up again, he quietly looked at her and asked, “Then why do you think it is?”
Jiang Yu replied, “Of course it’s due to… hormonal changes.”
Jiang Zhe: …
Jiang Yu had returned, and Jiang Zhe was so happy that he cooked a lot of dishes that evening. The long-awaited delicious food whetted Jiang Yu’s appetite. After eating a piece, she chewed for a moment and narrowed her eyes at Jiang Zhe, saying, “You have no idea what kind of life I’ve been living lately…”
Jiang Yu realized that her desire to share was a bit overwhelming, so she quickly changed the subject. Forget it; she didn’t want to scare him, so she kept quiet.
“What day is it?” Jiang Zhe asked, genuinely concerned about where she had been during this time.
Jiang Yu chuckled, her eyes darting around before she replied, “A good day.”
Not really. Uncle Su couldn’t cook, and neither could she. At first, Uncle Su wanted her to cook, but her dishes turned out so poorly that he chose to cook for himself instead.
His cooking wasn’t any better, but she still had to flatter him. After spending half a month at home, she felt like she had come back to life.
It was still good to return home, surrounded by family and Jiang Zhe.
Jiang Zhe, feeling helpless, ultimately decided not to press the matter further.
After dinner, Jiang Yu went to check on the baby.
The little one had woken up, and as Jiang Yu placed a small seahorse toy in her palm, the baby seemed to recognize her and broke into a big smile.
The little girl was incredibly beautiful, with long eyelashes that fluttered like butterflies and a sweet milky scent enveloping her.
Jiang Yu turned to Jiang Zhe excitedly and said, “Look, your daughter smiled at me!”
Seeing her so thrilled over such a small gesture softened Jiang Zhe’s heart. “Are you happy?”
Jiang Yu turned back to the baby, gently poking her with her finger. “Happy! She’s so cute!”
Jiang Zhe thought, You’re cute too.
Aunt Chen, the nanny, noticed Jiang Yu’s affectionate demeanor toward the child and smiled, “Luo Luo is a beautiful baby. I’ve taken care of so many children, but I’ve never seen one as lovely as her.”
Hearing the nanny praise lifted Jiang Yu’s spirits.
Due to a lack of space in the house, the nanny stayed upstairs to rest at night. Jiang Zhe took care of the baby, calling the nanny down if needed.
Jiang Yu remembered her previous self, who had completely ignored the child. While that was nice, as a mother, she felt a pang of guilt. She knew she shouldn’t behave that way, so before going to bed, she asked Jiang Zhe, “Jiang Zhe, do you need me to help with the baby tonight?”
In her mind, it was either both parents taking care of the child or just the mother.
Since Jiang Zhe had taken on part of that responsibility, she felt that now that she was back, she shouldn’t just lounge around doing nothing.
However, Jiang Zhe was concerned about her health and said, “I’ll take care of the baby. You need to rest. You just got back today.”
“Huh?”
Jiang Zhe quickly added, “You went out early this morning and visited the hospital twice. You must be tired, so get some rest.”
Jiang Yu was happy to have a break from taking care of the baby. “Okay.”
“Oh, by the way, I want to visit the nearby temple tomorrow to make a wish. Maybe we can go to the hospital in the afternoon.”
Jiang Zhe, thinking she might not want to go to the hospital anymore, smiled. “Sure, I’ll go with you.”
