Chapter 55
When the little girl first arrived, she was a bit shy, given the number of people around. However, after a while, everyone found her overwhelmingly cute and wanted to hug her. Seeing that her parents were there, she became bolder and didn’t mind being held by others as much. Her bright, sparkling eyes were particularly captivating as she held a piece of bread and ate happily.
Once the food was served, Jiang Zhe poured himself a drink and said, “Since I’ll be driving later and my daughter doesn’t like it when I drink, I’ll toast everyone with tea instead. I want to thank you all for the gifts you brought on my daughter’s birthday. Since I didn’t want to trouble anyone, I only invited family, but I didn’t expect everyone to bring gifts. Thank you.”
He then drank from his cup.
In their company, there was never a culture of forcing drinks, so everyone didn’t mind him having a drink. They considered it a minor issue, but Jiang Zhe’s special thanks left everyone pleasantly surprised.
“President Jiang, this isn’t because of the red envelope you gave us, is it?”
The person speaking cautiously glanced at Jiang Yu, uncertain whether he should say this in front of her.
Jiang Yu already knew about this, and Jiang Zhe didn’t mind. He smiled and replied, “It’s all separate matters. Besides, the red envelope was because I wanted you all to help check in at my wife’s shop.”
Wei Cheng chuckled, “You should learn from President Jiang how to treat your wife.”
Immediately, someone chimed in, “President Jiang is rich; we can’t learn that.”
Wei Cheng clicked his tongue. “I meant for you to learn how to treat your wife, not to learn how to waste money.”
Jiang Yu felt a bit embarrassed and said, “This is my first time opening a shop, and I’m a bit nervous. I didn’t expect him to ask you all to support me.”
A young man wearing glasses said, “Well, Mrs. Jiang, to be honest, the coffee at your shop is excellent. We fell in love with it after just one visit; it’s much better than the nearby ones. Don’t worry; we’ll definitely keep coming back.”
Others nodded in agreement: “Yes, me too. I’ll visit often in the future.”
Jiang Yu felt warm inside from the compliments but still said, “If everyone enjoys the coffee, please come by often. But don’t feel pressured; don’t come to my shop just because I’m Jiang Zhe’s wife.”
Wei Cheng laughed, “Sister-in-law, why are you like this?”
Jiang Yu was confused.
Wei Cheng said, “When people run a business, they usually try to attract customers to their own store. But you, on the other hand, are telling them to go elsewhere.”
Jiang Yu looked to Jiang Zhe for help, and he smiled, explaining, “She’s just worried about putting pressure on you all.”
Immediately, someone joked, “With Mrs. Jiang’s attitude, we’ll definitely come by more often!”
“Yes, yes!”
The atmosphere at the dinner table was relaxed, with everyone chatting about daily life, occasionally discussing their kids, and briefly touching on work. As they finished their meals, some people began to leave.
Jiang Zhe said, “Don’t rush; my wife has prepared gifts for everyone at the entrance. Each of you can take one.”
The gifts included pens, mugs, and a mouse, all in red boxes that were quite nice.
They were pleasantly surprised by the gifts, and their fondness for Jiang Yu quickly grew, as they wished her three blessings: “Wishing President Jiang and his wife harmony and happiness, may the little one grow more beautiful, and wishing you a happy family for a hundred years!”
After everyone finished eating, they left one after another. Wei Cheng was the last to go. As he held his gift and placed a hand on Jiang Zhe’s shoulder, his face was full of satisfaction.
He said to Jiang Zhe, “Ever since you got married, you’ve become more warm-hearted. Keep it up.”
It was known that preparing gifts for colleagues was something that had never existed in Jiang Zhe’s world before.
Wei Cheng was the last to leave. With no one left in the private room, Jiang Zhe picked up the little one, who had fallen asleep at some point, while Jiang Yu carried her bag, and they all headed out.
Once downstairs, they saw Wei Cheng talking to a girl at the door. Jiang Yu quickly recognized her as the second female lead she had seen that day.
Jiang Yu was momentarily speechless and somewhat surprised. She asked Jiang Zhe, “How does Wei Cheng know Chi Le?”
Jiang Zhe replied, “Who knows?”
However, to satisfy Jiang Yu’s curiosity, he led her over.
When Wei Cheng saw Jiang Zhe and Jiang Yu approaching, he took the initiative to introduce, “This is my junior; she’s from the same mentor as me.”
Before he could introduce them further, Chi Le quickly interjected, “I know them. They’re Lin Sicheng’s uncle and aunt.”
Upon hearing this name, Wei Cheng’s expression turned cold. Even in front of Jiang Zhe, he still reminded her, “He has ulterior motives toward you.”
Chi Le shrugged it off, “It’s okay. I know why he’s with me. I don’t mind. I want to get him, and he wants resources from me. We both get what we need.”
Wei Cheng said, “What you want is not just that. He wants more too.”
Chi Le didn’t want to discuss this any further: “Senior, can we not talk about this?”
Then she turned to Jiang Yu and asked, “Aunt, do you have time? Let’s go shopping together tomorrow.”
Jiang Zhe preemptively refused for her, saying, “She has a lot to do at her shop and doesn’t have time to go shopping with you.”
Chi Le’s eyes showed some disappointment: “Oh, then let’s arrange it for another day. Aunt, let’s add each other on WeChat.”
Jiang Zhe was opposed and interrupted, “If it’s for Lin Sicheng, I think you shouldn’t waste your effort.”
Chi Le felt a bit disheartened and stared at Jiang Yu with her beautiful eyes.
Jiang Yu felt a bit softhearted under her gaze.
However, she knew that Chi Le was approaching her for that reason.
Wei Cheng also felt a bit uncomfortable and looked at Jiang Zhe, urging, “Aren’t you supposed to take the kid back to sleep? Let’s go.”
So Jiang Zhe and Jiang Yu left.
Chi Le, seeing that Wei Cheng was actually helping them leave, was a bit angry and scolded him, “Senior, you’re going too far.”
Wei Cheng’s expression was not good. He said, “If you still consider me a senior, don’t get close to them. Lin Sicheng isn’t worth it.”
Chi Le pouted, “I know my limits.”
On the way back, Jiang Zhe frowned when he thought of Chi Le and said, “She might come looking for you. I have no feelings for Lin Sicheng. Even if something happens, it’ll be him looking for me. You shouldn’t engage with her, okay?”
Jiang Yu understood and replied, “Got it.”
Then, curious, she asked, “If he really needed help, would you help him?”
Jiang Zhe replied, “He won’t have any issues. You’re underestimating Jiang Siyu too much.”
Jiang Yu nodded, changing the subject, “By the way, isn’t your birthday coming up soon?”
Jiang Zhe didn’t expect her to know about his birthday. He looked down and softly replied, “Hmm,” then asked quietly, “Do you want to celebrate my birthday?”
Jiang Yu nodded, her eyes shining brightly as she looked at him.
“Why? Do you think it’s not possible?”
Jiang Zhe nodded. “I’m looking forward to it.”
