Chapter 24 Yes! We must protect the chastity of the battalion commander!!!
The young soldiers at the base’s security office took turns standing guard every day. In addition, two comrades were assigned to patrol around the perimeter of the base regularly. After all, the base didn’t just store firearms—there were many confidential documents in the archives as well.
So, aside from military family members, no unrelated individuals were allowed near the premises. Even military families had to be accompanied and registered when entering or exiting the base.
Tonight, one of the young soldiers on patrol was already feeling a little sleepy. With a flashlight in hand, he was walking his rounds around the base when he suddenly caught sight of a rather stocky figure in the distance!
Startled, he rushed forward—
The flashlight beam immediately landed right on Yuan Meilin’s face!!!
Her face—broad and caked with makeup like some kind of monster—appeared out of nowhere, scaring him so badly he almost dropped the flashlight!
Then, when he turned his head—
“C-Captain Fu?! You’re back?!”
“…Is this male comrade a friend of yours?”
The patrolling soldier trembled all over, inching closer to Fu Jingchuan and whispering behind his hand:
“Captain… is this your friend?”
“What kind of weird friend is this… a big guy, built like a linebacker, wearing a pink dress and long hair?! And he’s wearing makeup too… good grief, I was almost scared half to death! Could he have mental issues??”
These new recruits were used to shouting slogans and had naturally loud voices.
He thought he was whispering, but in the quiet night air, Yuan Meilin heard every word clearly!
She immediately flew into a rage!
Her dark, round face flushed red as she clenched her fists and roared:
“What did you say?!”
“Are you blind or what?! I’m obviously a woman!!”
“Oh come on, buddy, who are you trying to fool?”
The young soldier wiped the sweat from his forehead, looked her up and down again, and scoffed:
“Your voice is deeper than mine! You call that a woman? Who would believe it?”
“I mean seriously, pal, if you’ve been through some trauma or something, at least go see a doctor, right? What’re you doing wandering around outside a military base this late at night?”
“Dacheng.”
Fu Jingchuan frowned and gave the young soldier a firm pat on the shoulder with his rough palm.
After a pause, he said:
“She is a woman. I know her.”
“She’s the daughter of the cook who works at my home.”
“…”
Comrade Li Baocheng’s round eyes went wide—nearly popping out of his sockets.
He swallowed hard.
“W-What…? She’s actually… a woman?”
“Yes. Don’t worry about it—go back to your patrol.”
Fu Jingchuan lifted his chin slightly, motioning for him to carry on.
Only then did Dacheng mutter under his breath:
“Oh… okay then.”
“Tch. Still looks just like a guy though…”
He walked forward holding the flashlight, but couldn’t help glancing back every few steps.
Frowning, he thought: This woman is weird. Why is she looking for the captain so late at night?
And why is she dressed like that—so horrifying…
Oh no!!
She’s not… into the captain, is she?!
Dacheng was horrified by the thought! His face turned pale!
He looked around nervously and grew even more concerned.
It was dark now, and that woman looked strong as an ox.
If she really tried something on the captain…
Even the captain might not be able to resist her!
No, no! He had to stay and keep an eye on things!
Yes! He had to protect the captain’s chastity!!
After all, he’d heard the captain had just married a wife who looked like an actual fairy!
He hadn’t seen her himself, but the comrades who had gone to pick her up said…
She was as beautiful as a celestial maiden.
Dacheng clicked his tongue skeptically and thought: Tch. Those single guys must be exaggerating.
Where in the world would you find a girl who looks like an actual fairy?
They probably just haven’t seen a young woman in too long.
Humph! Bunch of bumpkins!
Just as Dacheng was lost in thought—
He suddenly heard a soft, sweet voice call out:
“Fu Jingchuan!!! Fu Jingchuan!!”
The voice was as sweet as honey—it made his knees go weak!
He lifted the flashlight and swept it forward—
Thud!
The flashlight slipped from his hand and hit the ground!
Mouth hanging open, he stared ahead, stunned in the silver moonlight.
There, running down the country path, was a woman holding a small child in her arms!
She wore a plain white cotton dress, her long ink-black hair cascading down her back and around her delicate face, making her already petite features look even more exquisite.
Her pale skin shimmered under the moonlight like it might turn translucent.
Delicate brows, eyes full of glistening tears…
Her long, curled lashes trembled as if they might stir a person’s heart with each flutter!
Her lips, soft pink like spring peach blossoms, were nervously bitten, leaving a pale mark behind.
The helpless, fragile look on her face was enough to make any warm-blooded male want to go up and whisper comfort to her…
Then—
Dacheng watched, stunned, as his towering captain’s eyes darkened.
Fu Jingchuan strode forward with long legs—
And when he reached her, his tall figure completely shielded her from view.
With one cold glare over his shoulder, he sent Dacheng an unspoken warning.
Dacheng felt a chill run down his spine and quickly looked away!
But curiosity burned in his chest.
He squinted and snuck another glance.
Who is she??
Good lord, is that even a human being?
Can a girl actually be that beautiful??
She was glowing!
Meanwhile, Jiang Wan had no time to worry about anyone else nearby.
She had been preparing for bed after washing up when she suddenly heard little Fu Xiaoyan crying in the other room.
She hadn’t even taken off her nightgown—just thrown on a jacket and shoes before running over.
There, she found Fu Chen collapsed on the ground, burning hot and muttering incoherently.
Panicked, she grabbed him and ran out the door!
It wasn’t until she was outside that she realized… she didn’t even know where the base was.
Luckily, she’d run into two uncles who knew Fu Jingchuan and Fu Chen. They were just returning from the fields and kindly pointed her in the right direction.
Jiang Wan was beside herself with worry.
She touched the little boy’s forehead again, eyes shimmering with misty tears as she looked up helplessly at Fu Jingchuan:
“Fu Jingchuan… what do we do?! Fu Chen has a fever—he’s burning up!”
“I called his name and he wouldn’t even respond!”
