Chapter 30 If a man holds back for too long, he may easily get sick!
Those few soft gasps were like a blow to the head, making Fu Jingchuan’s heart tighten suddenly. His solid chest rose and fell slowly, and his dark brows furrowed deeply.
Jiang Wan, in his arms, seemed to be out of breath, her light pink lips slightly parted like a fish out of water. Only then did Fu Jingchuan realize he had unknowingly been holding her with a frightening amount of strength—as if trying to embed her into his own body.
Startled, Fu Jingchuan quickly moved his hands away, as if burned. But Jiang Wan seemed to have slipped back into deep sleep. Her soft, boneless body instantly lost support and was about to fall to the floor.
His throat moved slightly, and he had no choice but to catch her again and pull her back into his embrace.
Her dark hair was a little messy, and Fu Jingchuan closed his long, dark eyes tightly, not daring to look any further. After a long pause, he let out a deep breath and picked her up in his arms.
Carrying her back to the main house, he couldn’t help but glance at the door latch on the way. His lips pressed into a tight line—if she could open the door while sleepwalking, it must be because she hadn’t latched it properly before bed.
Fu Jingchuan paused for a moment, unsure how to feel.
She must have trusted him completely. But why? Why did she trust him so much that she wasn’t afraid he might take advantage of her? Did she… not even see him as a normal man?
And yet, he was her lawful husband.
Fu Jingchuan couldn’t help but give a helpless chuckle. His sharp eyebrows lifted slightly as he carried her back to the bedroom and gently placed her on the bed.
He stood at the edge of the bed, watching her sink into the soft blankets. A faint smile curved at his lips as she snuggled into the quilt like a satisfied kitten. Her breathing steadied, soft and calm.
A warm, unfamiliar feeling rose in his heart. But when his gaze fell on the shimmering wetness at the corners of her delicate lips, his eyes suddenly darkened again.
He hesitated for a long time but eventually couldn’t help himself. He lifted his rough hand and gently wiped the dampness away with the back of his fingers.
That petal-like softness reignited the fire inside him.
Fu Jingchuan clenched his jaw, quickly turned, and walked out in long strides. As he closed the door behind him, his movements were subconsciously gentle.
He headed toward the woodshed but felt his neck burning. Unable to bear the heat, he stopped by the well again and splashed cold water on his face.
But the recent summer heat meant that even the water stored in the bucket wasn’t all that cool anymore. Fu Jingchuan furrowed his brows tightly, water still dripping from his jawline.
On impulse, he walked over to the side house and listened carefully at the door. It was quiet inside—he could faintly hear the steady breathing of the two little kids. Only then did he feel at ease and return to the woodshed.
Lying back on the brick bed, his heart thudded louder and louder. That heavy, suffocating feeling returned, making it hard to breathe.
He was getting annoyed with himself for having such a bad memory—how did he forget to ask Director Wang about his chest tightness?
But when he glanced down intending to check his chest, his gaze drifted lower… and instantly, Fu Jingchuan’s dark pupils contracted sharply.
Even though he had never been physically close to a woman, he knew what his body’s reaction meant.
Suddenly, filthy jokes from the new recruits echoed in his mind:
“A man holding it in too long can get sick!”
Fu Jingchuan pursed his thin lips, thinking those were complete nonsense.
All this reaction meant was that he was perfectly healthy!
He’d gone nearly 30 years without a woman, and it hadn’t made him sick!
He let out a cold snort, turned his body toward the wall, and forced himself to close his eyes.
The next morning—
When Jiang Wan opened her eyes, the first thing she felt was… a soreness in her lower back!
She frowned delicately, wondering if maybe she’d accidentally bumped into something in her sleep.
Then, still groggy, she lifted her pajama top and looked down—
Whoa. All her sleepiness vanished instantly.
There were two red marks on either side of her waist, and when she turned slightly, they extended all the way to the dimples of her lower back!
It really looked like… like they were made from someone grabbing her tightly!
Could she have been sleep-crazed and done it to herself??
She suddenly remembered that steamy, thrilling dream from last night. Her cheeks instantly flushed bright red.
She even tried comparing the size of her own hands to the marks…
Wait a second—they didn’t match!
Jiang Wan’s eyes widened in shock. A wave of panic rose in her heart.
C-Could it be… was it one of those legendary “ghost pressing the bed” situations?!
Ahhhhhh!!!
Just as she was spiraling into paranoia, a knock sounded from the front gate.
“Commander Fu! Commander Fu, are you home?”
Still deep in her thoughts, Jiang Wan figured Fu Jingchuan had already gone to the base since the sun was up. But the next second, she heard his low voice answer:
“I’m home. One moment.”
Then came the creak of the courtyard gate being opened.
What shocked Fu Jingchuan was the voice that followed:
“Grandpa?? What are you doing here?”
“???”
Jiang Wan blinked her bright almond-shaped eyes, looking a bit confused. Grandpa Fu? Wasn’t that the retired veteran who had helped Grandpa Jiang back in the day and wrote the letter to the Jiang family?
Wait, no! The person who knocked on the door just now… seemed to be Aunt Tang!
Why was Aunt Tang here too?
Didn’t Fu Jingchuan just tell Yuan Meilin yesterday at the affiliated hospital that they didn’t need to come to the house anymore starting today?
Before Jiang Wan could figure it out, she heard Grandpa Fu’s aged but steady voice. He clearly sounded displeased as he snorted and said,
“If I hadn’t come, who knows what kind of mess you’d be fooled into!”
As soon as Grandpa Fu finished speaking, Aunt Tang’s sharp and bitter voice followed. She drew out her words on purpose, making it very obvious.
“Ohhh~~ Company Commander Fu, the sun’s already high up in the sky, and Comrade Jiang Wan still isn’t up yet? I’ve never seen a new bride sleep in this late~”
“… …”
Tsk. That old woman again.
Up to her antics already?
A glint of cold light flickered in Jiang Wan’s eyes, but she wasn’t in a hurry to go out just yet. She slowly picked out a plain cotton dress printed with orchids. Then she braided her thick black hair into two long plaits and looked at herself in the mirror.
Aunt Tang meant nothing to her.
But Fu Jingchuan’s grandfather was there too.
In that case, of course she had to make a good impression on the elder!
Jiang Wan curved her lips into a smile and looked at the sweet, soft face in the mirror. She smiled brightly.
In her past life growing up in the orphanage, there wasn’t a single elder who didn’t like her~
Was Tang Feng trying to get Grandpa Fu to dislike her?
Tsk. What a poorly thought-out plan!
