Chapter 41 You and Captain Fu… haven’t slept together yet?
Jiang Wan was stunned for a moment, but her smile remained calm. Her almond-shaped eyes shimmered slightly as she replied, “It’s okay, Sister Yulan. Go ahead and say what’s on your mind.”
“Well…” Zhao Yulan glanced again toward the bedroom. “You and Commander Fu… haven’t slept together yet?”
Good grief.
Jiang Wan truly hadn’t expected Sister Yulan to be so direct—it was like she’d just dropped a bomb. Her ears instantly turned red, and she bit her lip in embarrassment.
Seeing her stay silent, Zhao Yulan—who already had two kids—grew even more anxious on her behalf. She now really treated this young girl like her own little sister. She reached out and gently held Jiang Wan’s hand, speaking in a softer tone:
“Sweetheart, don’t be embarrassed. It’s just the two of us here. The kids are in their room, too.”
“Don’t treat me like an outsider.”
“Besides, I’ve already had two kids—I know how all this works. I’m only saying this because I’m worried you’re too young and might not understand.”
“Sister’s advice comes from the heart,” she said sincerely. “It’s normal if you feel a bit shy around Commander Fu since you’ve just gotten together. But if you trust me, you need to start getting used to it!”
“A husband and wife can’t sleep apart for too long—it causes problems! It’ll harm your relationship!”
“Don’t be shy. What I’m saying might sound awkward, but it’s important, really! What goes on between a couple in bed—it might be hard to talk about, but it matters!”
“Your Commander Fu… ahem…”
“Just look at that physique—you know what I mean.”
“If you don’t sleep with him for too long, what if he starts looking for someone else? He’s young, strong, and full of energy!”
“…”
Jiang Wan honestly hadn’t expected women from the older generation in the countryside to be so bold and unfiltered in their language. Though it made her face burn, as someone who’d spent her past life as a city office worker and frequent internet user, she could handle it after a moment.
After all, she’d seen everything on the internet. Back in university, her roommates once got curious and downloaded videos to “broaden their horizons.” Truth be told, girls gossiping together could get way more spicy than men.
But when Jiang Wan recalled one of those videos, she felt a little grossed out—mostly because the male actor was so unappealing! He even had a beer belly!
Nope. She really was a sucker for good looks. Ugly guys just didn’t do it for her.
As she thought about this, her mind naturally drifted to that dream again…
In it, she had personally stripped Fu Jingchuan’s shirt off. His well-defined abs were like bars of chocolate, radiating explosive masculinity. His chiseled, serious features were insanely attractive.
Jiang Wan lowered her gaze, long lashes trembling, her earlobes flushing a deep red.
Zhao Yulan figured maybe she had been too blunt and quickly tried to change the subject. She got up to leave, chuckling.
“Aiyoh, hahaha, look at me! I went and embarrassed you, didn’t I?”
“All right, all right, I’ll head home and start dinner! Think it over, sweetheart—Sister would never steer you wrong!”
“I’m going now—don’t bother seeing me off!”
Zhao Yulan waved goodbye while covering her mouth, still laughing, leaving Jiang Wan standing at the doorway with her heart still pounding wildly.
She had just told Grandpa Fu today that there would be no wedding ceremony for now. But the marriage certificate was signed, and the two of them were legally married.
It really didn’t make sense for Fu Jingchuan to keep sleeping in the firewood shed!
But Jiang Wan also recalled that time Fu Jingchuan had been drunk, and what Fu Chen had said—that he had never shared a bed with any of his previous wives…
Her thoughts grew more tangled. She slapped her cheeks gently, trying to snap herself out of it.
It wasn’t even dark yet, and her mind was already full of R-rated scenes! Ughhh, no! Time to eat instead!
As the sun dipped low on the horizon, painting the sky with fire-like hues, Jiang Wan decided not to cook since she’d bought ready-made food at the market. She brought out a round foldable table and set it up in the courtyard, calling the two kids to come eat.
Fu Chen and little Fu Xiaoyan walked out from the side room and froze in disbelief when they saw the spread on the table.
“T-This is cured meat!”
After all, they were just kids—and Tang Feng had never let them eat anything decent. Seeing all that delicious food nearly made them drool.
Little Fu Xiaoyan, being younger, couldn’t hold back. She poked Fu Chen from behind, urging him to hurry. She still clung to him like a little plaster doll.
Jiang Wan frowned slightly, a bit worried. Xiaoyan was just too attached to Fu Chen. This couldn’t go on forever. Still, both kids knew they weren’t Fu Jingchuan’s biological children, so their close bond made sense.
She sighed silently, set the chairs, and called them to eat.
Fu Chen held Xiaoyan’s hand and sat down, but he hesitated to reach for the food.
Jiang Wan found it funny and casually joked, “What’s wrong? Don’t dare eat? Afraid I poisoned it?”
But as soon as she said that, Xiaoyan—who had just picked up her chopsticks—immediately dropped them with a loud clatter!
Jiang Wan was genuinely stunned. It had only been a joke—why had the little girl reacted like that?
She looked up and saw Xiaoyan hanging her head, tears already spilling down her cheeks. The little girl clung to Fu Chen’s clothes and sobbed:
“Brother… brother, my tummy hurts… Xiaoyan’s scared!”
“???”
Jiang Wan’s almond eyes widened in shock, flickering with emotion.
She hurried over and crouched down beside little Fu Xiaoyan. Using the gentle, soothing tone she had once used to comfort younger siblings in her past life, she smiled softly, her eyes curved warmly.
“Xiaoyan, don’t be afraid. Tell Aunt Jiang, why does brother have a stomach ache?”
Fu Chen furrowed his thick black brows deeply, his face looking troubled.
“Wuwu… there was an aunt, someone Dad married before. She… she wanted to know where Dad hid his money…”
“So, she put medicine in brother’s food,”
“Brother’s tummy hurts, wuwu… She told Dad to go get money for treatment…”
“Xiaoyan! Stop it!” Fu Chen couldn’t hold back anymore. His small body trembled as he recalled the pain twisting in his belly—the kind of fear that lasts long after being bitten by a snake.
He had already stopped doubting Jiang Wan, but now his movements to reach for the chopsticks slowed.
Still, he comforted his sister, “Xiaoyan, Aunt Jiang isn’t like that… The food she made before, we both ate it, and it was fine! Dad ate it too!”
“It’s okay, Xiaoyan.”
Jiang Wan’s eyes darkened with worry; her throat felt like it was clogged with a wad of cotton. Looking at the two kids, her heart ached deeply—she couldn’t imagine what they had silently endured.
She said nothing but gently rubbed Xiaoyan’s head, then sat back down. She was the first to pick up her chopsticks and taste all the food.
After calming herself, she spoke softly, “It was wrong of me to joke and scare you kids like that.”
“Eat, I already ate everything, no poison in the food!”
