Chapter 6 You are a hooligan! You touched my dad!
Jiang Wan didn’t know that Fu Jingchuan often used the same trick on the children. Besides, the two kids weren’t stupid. No matter how nice Aunt Yuan was to them, and no matter how much they disliked this new woman, Jiang Wan, they couldn’t just leave with Aunt Yuan! This was their home now!
Fu Chen’s little face scrunched up tightly. He struggled to hop down from Yuan Meilin’s arms, grabbed Fu Xiaoyan by the hand, and ran straight into the side room. Who cared about Aunt Yuan anymore—he had no time for her. This new woman wasn’t what she seemed at first—she was fierce! If they didn’t behave… could she really throw them out?
When Yuan Meilin saw that Jiang Wan had gotten the children to listen to her with just a few words, her expression darkened even further. How could this be?? If things continued like this, then all the effort she and her mother had put in would go to waste!
“You’re still here? If you don’t leave now, I’ll call the police! You’re just a hired worker—this counts as trespassing!” Jiang Wan arched her delicate brows sharply, looking genuinely intimidating. A cold glint even flickered in her clear apricot eyes.
Yuan Meilin instinctively trembled, then clenched her teeth and stormed out.
Jiang Wan remembered Fu Jingchuan had said he wouldn’t be back that night, then glanced at the sky. Without hesitation, she quickly locked the heavy iron gate. As a young woman alone in the house with two kids, she had to be careful. Besides… she still felt like she hadn’t slept enough. Maybe a nap was still in order.
After returning to her room, Jiang Wan forced herself to stay awake long enough to unpack her suitcase. She hadn’t expected it—though the leather case looked small and boxy, it could actually hold quite a lot. When she opened it, she couldn’t help but smile. A few sets of clothes, shoes, some Snow Cream, a small mirror… and even the original owner’s hair ties were all packed neatly inside. All the basics were there.
It was clear that the Jiang couple wanted to completely wash their hands of Jiang Wan—ideally never to hear from her again. They’d even gone so far as to purposely write the wrong phone number!
But Jiang Wan didn’t really care. After seeing that older man, she actually felt like she’d scored a good deal. She didn’t have a magical golden finger like heroines in novels—there was no way to strike it rich overnight in this era. If she could marry a good man who had a sense of responsibility, it would be easier to live a peaceful, laid-back life.
And this man was raising two of his comrades’ children. He probably still wanted to marry despite his failed past marriage because he wanted to find a mother for the kids. Just from their short time together, Jiang Wan could already sense that behind Fu Jingchuan’s cold tone was genuine care for the orphans his comrades had left behind.
He likely wasn’t in a rush to have children of his own either! She was still young—definitely not ready to become some worn-out housewife!
Thinking of this, Jiang Wan suddenly realized she hadn’t looked at herself in the mirror yet. She quickly dug out the little mirror from her suitcase, feeling a bit nervous. Her heart was racing as she took a deep breath and looked into the small mirror.
“Whoa!”
She couldn’t help but gasp aloud, her hand flying to her mouth in shock. This face—it looked almost exactly like the one from her previous life! But this version had been pampered by the Jiang family, making her skin much more delicate than the overworked, fast-food-fed, sleepless version of herself from before.
Her clear apricot eyes sparkled, her pale pink lips were soft, her nose and jaw were perfectly shaped—and her long black hair, reaching past her waist, added to the effect. Jiang Wan was absolutely thrilled!
What woman wouldn’t want to be younger and prettier?
Feeling delighted and amazed at the wonders of this world, Jiang Wan slowly put her clothes away into the old red-painted wardrobe. After that, she lay down on the bed without changing.
And then—she slept straight through until nightfall.
When she woke up, the room was completely dark. Only a sliver of silver moonlight from the courtyard filtered in through the crack in the door.
Jiang Wan opened her eyes sleepily and yawned lazily. Her sleeping habits hadn’t changed from her past life—she was never still while sleeping, and her braid had come completely undone. So she just took her hair down entirely. Her long, thick black hair framed her tiny, delicate face, making it look no larger than a palm.
She put on her shoes and got ready to find some light. Oh, right… in this era, in the countryside, the only light sources were probably kerosene lamps or wax candles, right?
Feeling her way in the dark, Jiang Wan headed outside—only to hear a loud banging on the heavy iron gate!
Her heart skipped a beat. Her footsteps came to an abrupt halt.
Fu Jingchuan had said he wouldn’t be back tonight… so who could it be?
“Who is it?”
Little Fu Chen, surprisingly bold, called out in his soft, childish voice.
From outside came a low, hoarse voice.
“Fu Chen, it’s me. Open the door!”
“…Why… is the door… locked?!”
It was Fu Jingchuan!
Jiang Wan recognized the man’s voice immediately—but something felt off. He didn’t sound like he did earlier in the day. His voice was even hoarser… and he didn’t seem fully coherent.
Could he be sick?
Jiang Wan hurried outside. The bolt on the heavy iron gate was set quite high—those two little ones definitely wouldn’t be able to reach it.
Sure enough.
When Jiang Wan reached the door, Fu Chen was standing on tiptoe, desperately trying to reach the latch—but he just couldn’t. Jiang Wan quickly raised her delicate hand and slid the latch open.
The very next second, the tall, strong man collapsed straight toward her!
A heavy wave of alcohol immediately rushed up her nose!
“Ah!” Jiang Wan instinctively raised her hands to block him—and ended up with her soft little palm pressed right against his chest!
The taut, elastic muscles beneath her hand felt like they were going to swallow her slender, pale fingers whole! But the moment she touched him, those firm pectoral muscles tensed up even more—hard as stone!
“Ahh!!”
“You pervert!! You’re touching my dad!” Fu Chen suddenly covered his tiny eyes with his hand, pouting as he spoke.
“What do you mean, ‘pervert’! If I don’t hold him up, am I supposed to just let him fall?” Jiang Wan’s smooth, tender face flushed red with embarrassment. Her hands felt awkward—she couldn’t exactly hold him, but she couldn’t let go either.
Under the sound of the little kid’s innocent voice, she felt like her heartbeat was getting faster and faster!
But Fu Jingchuan was nearly 1.9 meters tall and all solid muscle—like a wild beast! Just two hands weren’t enough to hold him up at all!
“…Jiang… Shanshan?”
Just as Jiang Wan’s arms were trembling and her hands were so sore she was about to give out, Fu Jingchuan’s long, dark phoenix eyes suddenly turned to her.
He murmured that name tentatively, and Jiang Wan immediately felt a surge of irritation!
But before she could even get angry, Fu Jingchuan’s thick, dark brows furrowed, and he gave a bitter little smirk, pulling at his thin lips and scoffing, “Oh, no… she didn’t want me. Refused to marry off her precious daughter to me…”
Hic “You’re… Jiang Wan.”
