Chapter 87: The Savior in Pink
The way Chi Muyao looked towards the Azure Fox Ancestor suddenly changed.
He really wanted to question, “Ancestor, my junior sister is so young, how could you…?”
Then he remembered that Xi Huai also seemed much younger than him, making him feel unqualified to question anyone.
He could only tentatively ask, “How old are you this year?”
“Thirty times your age.”
“…”
This fox was even crazier than he was!
The Azure Fox Ancestor was the only person he could disdain for being too old!
He suddenly understood Xi Lin’s feelings when he learned Xi Huai had someone like him. It was like the family’s prized cabbage was taken by an old fox, leaving a bitter taste in his mouth.
But he couldn’t say anything. On the other hand, the Azure Fox Ancestor was indeed powerful and very handsome. If they did become a Daoist couple, Lou Qiongzhi would be well-protected, right?
He sighed one moment, consoled himself the next, and then looked at the Azure Fox Ancestor with a complex expression.
The Azure Fox Ancestor stood beside him, finding it hard to ignore him, and finally walked away impatiently.
Humans were so annoying.
Chi Muyao followed closely behind, beginning to nag, “My junior sister has a bad temper but a good heart. She’s usually careless and might not notice your little emotions. I hope you don’t hold it against her—”
He wanted to continue explaining, but suddenly couldn’t make a sound. Realizing the Azure Fox Ancestor had silenced him, he felt a wave of grievance.
In the following days, Chi Muyao stuck close to Lou Qiongzhi. They were both disciples of the Hehuan Sect, so they looked out for each other. When the time came to switch sides, they could leave together. The Azure Fox Ancestor always came and went mysteriously, appearing when needed and disappearing otherwise. Chi Muyao gradually got used to it.
Lou Qiongzhi found an opportunity to take Chi Muyao around the area where Zhi Shan Tianzun was stationed.
At that time, Zhi Shan Tianzun was listening to the reports of some third-level disciples and wasn’t with other high-level cultivators.
She rubbed her forehead, looking a bit tired, but then she noticed Chi Muyao, following him with her eyes from south to north, and smiled, feeling relieved.
Without exchanging explicit greetings, the message had already been conveyed.
Previously troubled, Zhi Shan Tianzun felt a sudden release, thinking that their efforts this time were worthwhile. Chi Muyao learned the truth from Lou Qiongzhi.
The method to set up the teleportation array had been told to Qingze Sect by Zhi Shan Tianzun, which led to this disaster, leaving her in a bad mood and somewhat guilty.
Who could have anticipated that Xian Yue Tianzun would propose such a shameless idea and others would actively respond? This made it hard for Zhi Shan Tianzun to accept, and she seemed ready to give up on Guannan Tianzun and return to Hehuan Sect to become a carefree sect leader.
Staying in Nuan Yan Pavilion for too long could lead to depression.
However, at this moment, Zhi Shan Tianzun remained in the Nuan Yan Pavilion’s team, as she could get firsthand information there and secretly leak it to Qingze Sect.
Qingze Sect was able to prepare in advance thanks to Zhi Shan Tianzun’s early warnings; otherwise, they would be in an even worse situation.
Seeing Chi Muyao return safely was the happiest moment for Zhi Shan Tianzun in recent days.
Chi Muyao blended into the Nuan Yan Pavilion’s camp for a few days but still couldn’t find a way to reunite with Xi Huai.
There were too many people guarding Qingze Sect, and anyone who approached was blocked.
Finally, when the protective array of Qingze Sect was breached, he still hadn’t made contact with Xi Huai.
As a Golden Core stage cultivator with limited combat skills, Chi Muyao was assigned to the rear to provide support and was stationed around the array.
Amid the crowd, Chi Muyao felt relieved to see unfamiliar faces.
Just as he was about to tamper with the array, he saw Mu Ren entering the group, added as a Foundation Establishment stage reserve.
He glanced at Mu Ren, still calm.
Mu Ren didn’t recognize him.
They were maintaining an auxiliary array that enhanced the spiritual power of the front-line cultivators, supported by over ninety cultivators, mostly Golden Core stage, with a few Foundation Establishment stage.
Chi Muyao’s task was simple: channel spiritual power into the array and coordinate movements as needed.
While he passively maintained the array, his attention was on the frontline, where the battle was intense.
Occasionally looking up, he saw towering flames, golden light filling the sky, and massive waves crashing beyond the clouds.
The lush grass, lofty mountains, and raging war painted a tense scene. Cultivators around moved swiftly, all looking anxious.
After observing for a while, Chi Muyao grew more uneasy as he hadn’t seen Hui since the battle began.
This reminded him of the cultivators he saw in the Nuan Yan Pavilion’s team earlier, all Nascent Soul stage with wood spiritual roots, specifically countering spiritual contract summoning. They were prepared to deal with Qing Ze Sect’s father and son, a very targeted strategy.
Very frustrating.
Fortunately, it was daytime. He secretly released Green Underworld Streamfire to observe the array.
Others wouldn’t notice Green Underworld Streamfire, as few knew about it. In daylight, they looked like ordinary insects, and others would just see them as common bugs.
Only Chi Muyao could hear them, and they advised him on how to alter the array.
Altering the array.
Tampering with an array maintained by over ninety people, changing it from an auxiliary to a suppressive array.
Though he couldn’t instantly turn it into a killing array, he could use it to trap some people, giving Qingze Sect more opportunities.
After a while of observation, the Green Underworld Streamfire came to a conclusion. Only Kong Qing remained on Chi Muyao’s shoulder, saying, “At the moment of Heavenly Punishment, reverse the five elements at Tianchong, Tianren, and Tianying positions. Align the Yang escape of Nine Earth and Nine Heaven.”
Chi Muyao noted the positions and timing, then began to alter the array.
The auxiliary array, originally glowing green, suddenly flared with red light. The array reversed, turning from support to suppression, exuding a formidable, intimidating aura like divine retribution.
All the cultivators present noticed the anomaly, but no one knew why it happened.
Attempts to undo it failed, and more cultivators realized something was wrong, warning others to retreat and quickly fleeing.
Chi Muyao mingled with the chaotic crowd, completing the final step of altering the array. In an instant, the red light spread widely, immobilizing all cultivators within its range.
Moreover, other large arrays also changed form, causing a large-scale collapse in the support area.
The previously busy auxiliary camp fell into dead silence, with cultivators frozen in place like stakes, unconscious, as if time had stopped.
Array techniques were usually studied by those lacking talent in other areas, but when used properly, they could turn the tide at critical moments.
During a battle of surpassing levels, array techniques were also a means of survival.
This array was a heavy blow, toppling the sandcastle.
If Chi Muyao used the array alone, he couldn’t trap cultivators, but with several existing large arrays, he achieved this effect by modifying them with guidance from seniors.
It was a fortunate convergence of time, place, and people.
Using a speed technique, Chi Muyao rushed forward among the immobilized crowd, knowing the battle’s aftershocks could harm him. He simultaneously activated Golden Bell and Soul Continuation Lantern.
The Azure Fox Ancestor joined him at this moment, and Chi Muyao quickly asked, “What’s the situation ahead?”
The Azure Fox Ancestor, who had been observing, replied, “They specifically deployed seven Nascent Soul stage cultivators to suppress your little Daoist partner and his father, preventing them from summoning Hui. However, these cultivators didn’t gain much, as Qingze Sect’s members recovered faster than expected and had strong combat abilities. Despite their numbers, they didn’t gain the upper hand.
“Moreover, Qingze Sect’s cultivators use many bizarre and unpredictable techniques, catching them off guard several times. Now it’s a stalemate, with both sides suffering losses.”
The people of Qingze Sect might be trapped animals, but they weren’t easy to bully.
These past few days, they recovered some of their spiritual power, enabling them to somewhat contend with Nuan Yan Pavilion and other sects.
Nuan Yan Pavilion didn’t expect Qingze Sect to recover to this extent and was caught off guard. Coupled with Chi Muyao’s sudden alteration of the formation, they lost their support, which was a double blow.
The number of Nascent Soul stage cultivators in the cultivation world is limited, and the top-tier battles primarily rely on them as the main force. Now, with both sides evenly matched and heavily injured, neither had the strength to continue fighting.
There were still spells exchanged between the two sides, but they lacked the initial intensity.
A stalemate. It needed a breakthrough.
As soon as one side could unleash a trump card, the battle would have a decisive outcome. It was a matter of who could make a last-minute comeback.
Chi Muyao stopped at an appropriate distance from the battlefield, looking up at the sky and muttering, “Hui.”
“Hmm?” The Blue Fox Ancestor didn’t understand why he suddenly said that.
Chi Muyao became extremely excited and asked, “Ancestor, how many Nascent Soul stage cultivators can you handle?”
The Blue Fox Ancestor was puzzled by his sudden excitement but still answered, “I’m not strong in direct combat, but I can control three Nascent Soul stage cultivators to fight for me. However, when controlled, they lack intelligence and only have combat ability, not the ability to strategize. If one is exhausted, I can switch to another. If there are no more Nascent Soul cultivators, I can control dozens of Golden Core stage ones. But I can’t control corpses.”
In other words, the Blue Fox Ancestor’s ability was to control cultivators and make them his puppets, just like he did in the Miasma Forest, controlling Ming Shaoluo and others to attack intruders.
Chi Muyao nodded, summoned the Golden Bell to protect both himself and the Blue Fox Ancestor, then stood in place, attempting to summon Hui.
Only Xi Huai and Xi Lin were suppressed, but he wasn’t.
If he could summon Hui and combine forces with the Azure Fox Ancestor, they might be able to turn the tide.
The Azure Fox Ancestor saw his intention, frowned, and said, “You don’t have a fire spiritual root. Forcing the summoning of Hui might harm you.”
“The situation is urgent. My combat ability is too weak. I can only help this way.”
“You’ve already helped a lot by altering the formation.”
“I’ll give it a try. How will we know unless we try?”
The Azure Fox Ancestor crossed his arms and watched him, reminding, “That creature has a bad temper. Be careful not to get eaten by it.”
“Got it!”
Chi Muyao began using his fingers to form seals, really feeling the rejection from Hui as he tried.
Hui was fierce and poisonous, far from an ideal spiritual contract. When the contractor was weak, Hui could easily backfire. However, successfully contracting with Hui granted immense attack power.
Enduring the initial pain led to great rewards, which was why Xi Lin endured such pain to contract Hui.
The pros and cons could only be weighed by oneself.
Chi Muyao felt the scorching heat burning his skin and lungs.
Lacking a fire spiritual root made this corrosion more intense, as if his veins were filled with lava instead of blood.
His insides felt like they were boiling, causing a ferocious look to appear on his usually delicate face.
Chi Muyao couldn’t control himself, emitting low growls as the agony made his body tremble uncontrollably.
The Azure Fox Ancestor, unable to bear the sight, placed a hand on Chi Muyao’s shoulder, injecting spiritual power into him to help control Hui.
The pain of forcefully summoning Hui without a contract was likely worse than what Xi Lin had endured.
The uncontrolled power within him manifested in antlers on his forehead, unable to hide any longer.
The antlers appeared, dislodging his veiled hat. The translucent antlers, with silver spiritual power flowing wildly, displayed the chaos within Chi Muyao’s body.
If only he had engaged in dual cultivation more often!
He could activate Xi Huai’s master token and even summon Shukuang, but Hui was another level of difficulty.
Dual cultivation really was… regretful in its scarcity when needed!
Xi Huai was gravely injured.
He glanced at the other seniors and his father nearby, all severely wounded, barely hanging on.
Healers tried to mend their injuries, but the effect was limited, unlike Chi Muyao’s quick recovery.
Other seniors were struggling on the periphery. If they couldn’t hold on and Nuan Yan Pavilion attacked, they would have no choice but to surrender.
Blood flowed from his forehead into his eyes, making it hard to see, yet he lacked the strength to wipe it away.
He had tried his best, but this was the result. Despite his efforts, the best he could do was ensure that Nuan Yan Pavilion and other sects also suffered heavy losses.
Both sides perishing might not have been what they wanted.
Xi Lin suddenly laughed, “Even if I die here today, those Taoist bastards will be buried with me. Not a bad deal!”
The Palace Lord of Zun Yue Palace laughed too, “They’re also exhausted. Only those suppressing us are still chanting spells.”
Xi Lin asked Xi Huai, “Was the change in the formation just now caused by that brat from Hehuan Sect?”
“Brat?”
Even his daughter-in-law received no respectful address.
But he didn’t care at the moment, “Yes, probably.”
“Not bad, quite capable. Hopefully, he hides well and finds another partner if you die…”
Xi Huai sighed, “I guess my unpleasant speech must be inherited from you.”
“I’m speaking from the heart!”
Xi Huai suddenly felt sad.
If he died, Chi Muyao would definitely cry a lot.
Definitely, since Chi Muyao was always tearful.
Luckily, they didn’t adopt the method reliant on him. Otherwise, Chi Muyao would have to die with him.
He wondered if, after his death, Chi Muyao would find another partner. If he ended up with that Yu Yanshu, he would likely be furious enough to cause earthquakes at his grave.
While he was feeling sorrowful, he suddenly heard a dragon roar, making his heart skip a beat. He immediately looked up.
The other heavily injured people gathered around were also astonished, looking towards the sky. They saw Hui, like a roaming serpent, proud and unwilling, flying towards them.
On its back was a person, dressed in pink, with a peach blossom mask and antlers on his forehead.
Hui flew without a barrier, causing the person’s sleeves to flutter like flags in the wind. Behind him, the west wind accompanied the setting sun, with patches of sunset gradually covering the sky, the yellow sand unable to obscure the crimson horizon.
Amidst the fierce battle, the black dragon descended, and the pink figure entered the scene, adding a touch of gentleness to the terrifying battlefield.
Perhaps in decades or centuries to come, Xi Huai would still remember this moment.
His A-Jiu came to his aid in his moment of crisis, descending like a deity.

Just wanted to point out a few mistranslation in the previous chapter and current chapter.
The fox ancestor do not like Lou Qing Zhi (A Jiu’s senior sister from He Huan Sect) but rather Yi Qian Xi (senior sister from Yu Chong Sect). Should be obvious but just wanted to point it out in case anyone’s wondering.
Yaaaaay! A jiu to the rescue. I can’t get the image of a pink bunny on top of a menacing dragon to the rescue. *giggles*
so cute! our Saviour in pink!
