Chapter 93: The Grand Wedding
The state of Qingze Sect was gradually returning to how it was before the great battle.
In the world of cultivators, the restoration of buildings and caves can be completed swiftly. The protective formation surrounding the sect was reactivated by the busy disciples, regaining its former might.
Recently, the Palace Master of Zunyue Palace often lingered around the main hall, occasionally standing in the courtyard, looking up with a deep gaze, lost in thought.
Xi Lin and the others had also emerged from seclusion. Although their spiritual power was not yet fully restored, it was sufficient to no longer fear the people from Nuanyan Pavilion, and they would recover gradually over time.
Xi Lin sat in the main hall, watching the Palace Master pace back and forth, feeling a bit annoyed. He then asked, “Why don’t you send a sound transmission talisman up there?”
The Palace Master of Zunyue Palace quickly shook his head. “The little disciple up there might not have recovered yet. Healing cultivators like him are different from us. His aptitude isn’t that great, so it’s understandable that his recovery takes longer.”
“You’re making me dizzy with your pacing!”
“I’m just anxious to see what Huaier’s partner looks like. I have a meeting gift in hand and can’t stop thinking about thanking him in person and meeting him.”
Xi Lin felt helpless. Xi Huai and Chi Muyao had gone up the mountain to activate the formation, and three months had passed without them coming down.
They hadn’t requested anything from the Disciplinary Hall during this time, and the mountain remained silent. It was unclear what was going on up there.
Thinking about this, he couldn’t help but feel anxious. He stood up, left the courtyard, and looked toward the mountain where Xi Huai was, saying, “I’ll strike it with a purple lightning bolt.”
The Palace Master of Zunyue Palace quickly stopped him. “No, no, no, don’t make that Chi… what was his name again, think we’re a violent sect.”
“Does our Qingze Sect have a good reputation?”
“Of course!”
“What?”
“We’re wealthy.”
“…” Indeed, that was the only thing worth bragging about in Qingze Sect.
As Xi Lin and the Palace Master of Zunyue Palace were debating, a sound transmission talisman arrived, and it was from Xi Huai. Both of them were delighted.
However, when they infused spiritual power into the talisman to activate it, all they heard was a cold voice: “Catch some bugs and bring them up to feed the bird.”
Xi Lin pointed to himself and asked, “Are they treating me like the Disciplinary Hall now?”
“The Disciplinary Hall doesn’t catch bugs.”
“So it’s my job then?!”
“Don’t get angry, don’t get angry. I’ll have my foolish son handle it.” The Palace Master of Zunyue Palace said, sending a sound transmission talisman to Song Weiyue.
Not long after, the two saw Song Weiyue and Zong Sichen searching the entire sect for bugs.
The Palace Master of Zunyue Palace sighed as he watched his foolish son, wondering when he would reach the Nascent Soul stage.
Others were returning to the sect with their partners, yet all his son knew was how to fight and wreck things.
A little while later, a huge oriole bird approached from the distance. When it spread its wings, it blocked out the sun, exuding an awe-inspiring presence, with blazing flames under its feet like a cloud of mist.
As it drew closer, they noticed two people riding on its back.
Xi Lin, who hadn’t seen his son for a long time, crossed his arms as he looked at the two. He had planned to scold them, but upon seeing Chi Muyao, he couldn’t help but smile, examining him from head to toe.
Chirp-chirp.
The bird transformed back into its small, chubby form and landed on Chi Muyao’s shoulder.
At this moment, Chi Muyao was dressed in pink robes. His figure was slender and delicate, but his demeanor was resolute. Since he was meeting his partner’s father, he did not wear his peach blossom mask, appearing before them with a calm and composed demeanor.
His jade-like face was gentle, his skin porcelain-white, with brows that weren’t too thick or too thin, softening his appearance and adding to his gentle nature. His eyes naturally carried an innocent expression, with a hint of light in them, resembling a collection of brilliant stars or blooming mountain flowers.
His nose was straight and elegant, with a small tip, complemented by lips that had not been painted yet appeared as if they had. His face, like that of an immortal, bore no trace of aggression, yet it struck directly at one’s heart with its serene beauty.
Chi Muyao walked over and respectfully saluted the two elders. “Sect Master, Palace Master, I am Chi Muyao, a disciple of Hehuan Sect. I apologize for the delay in paying my respects due to my poor health. Please forgive me.”
He spoke calmly, his demeanor impeccable, both courteous and scholarly.
Xi Lin and the Palace Master, who were used to a more casual lifestyle, found themselves more reserved in front of him.
Xi Lin quickly responded, “No, no, it’s perfectly normal to rest after such a feat, given that you became weak after saving us.”
He had clearly been eager to strike with purple lightning just moments ago.The Palace Master of Zunyue Palace nodded in agreement. “Indeed, indeed.”
Xi Lin added, “Don’t just stand there, come inside to talk.”
He then led Chi Muyao into the main hall.
The Palace Master followed, saying, “Yes, yes, come in and sit.”
Since their arrival, Xi Huai had noticed that his father and the Palace Master hadn’t even glanced at him; they were too busy attending to Chi Muyao.
Helpless, he followed them inside but was stopped by Xi Lin’s order: “Go check with Song Weiyue and Zong Sichen to see if they’ve caught enough bugs. Don’t neglect the little friend’s spirit pet.”
Xi Huai paused. Wasn’t he supposed to be introducing his partner to his elders? How had he suddenly become an outsider?Fortunately, Song Weiyue and Zong Sichen had already come over to join the fun, so Xi Huai didn’t need to leave.
Once inside, the two sat down, eager to listen in on the conversation.
After all, this was the first time among the three of them that someone was introducing their partner to the elders.
They wanted to witness the scene and learn from the experience.
After everyone was seated, the conversation turned to the usual pleasantries. Xi Lin asked kindly, “How is your health now, young friend?”
“Much better,” Chi Muyao replied properly.
Thanks to Xi Huai’s relentless efforts, he had recovered quickly. The reason they hadn’t come down the mountain after his recovery was because Xi Huai’s excessive attentiveness had left him needing a few extra days to meditate and absorb the nearly overflowing spiritual power.
Xi Lin then asked, “Are you comfortable staying with Huai’er? If not, we can find another mountain in Yunwaitian and grant it to you as the Thirty-Three Palaces. We’ll take care of the construction, and I assure you it will be completed within three years.”
Xi Huai was alarmed.
Chi Muyao lived with him and frequently crawled under his bed! If they were separated, Chi Muyao’s small mountain formation would isolate him alone.
In a panic, Xi Huai interrupted, “No, he will stay with me!”
“It’s just a mountain, don’t be so stingy!” Xi Lin scolded.
“Didn’t you and mother live together? Even when you fought, you’d just sit on the stone chair in the courtyard for a night. Weren’t you stingy too?”
“Tsk…” Xi Lin was displeased and threw a small fireball at Xi Huai.
It was meant to be a light reprimand, but Chirp-chirp, upon seeing the flames, Qiuqiu immediately spread its wings, showing off its round belly, exclaiming, “Chirp!“
Chi Muyao understood the bird’s intention and quickly held it down, relieved that no one else could understand its chirps, or they would have heard it call Xi Lin “grandpa.”
Fortunately, Xi Lin didn’t understand the bird’s meaning and merely praised it, saying, “This little spirit beast is quite adorable.”
“Yes, yes,” Chi Muyao could only nod, trying to stay calm despite his nerves.
Xi Lin then brought up a previous matter. “The Sect Master of Hehuan Sect came by earlier, and we discussed things. I plan to make you the Palace Master of the Thirty-Three Palaces. Not only will you be Xi Huai’s partner, but you’ll also hold the status of a Palace Master in our Qingze Sect. Given all you’ve done for us, the other Palace Masters won’t mind your cultivation level and will treat you with respect. You’ll stand on equal footing with them.”
This was a significant honor. A Golden Core stage cultivator standing on equal ground with a group of Nascent Soul cultivators was unheard of in the cultivation world, where strength ruled supreme.
While the Palace Master rank was still below Xi Huai’s position as the Young Sect Master, within the demonic sect, even the most powerful cultivators would have to show Chi Muyao respect.
This was the prestige of a Qingze Sect Palace Master.
“This… isn’t it a bit too much…?” Chi Muyao hesitated, feeling unsure about accepting the offer.
Xi Lin firmly reassured him, “Since I’ve already made up my mind, there’s no turning back.”
Xi Huai added, “Being the Palace Master of the Thirty-Three Palaces is quite fitting. Three times three makes nine, and you are A-Jiu, it suits you well.”
“Then I must thank you for your kindness, Sect Master. I will do my utmost to live up to the task.” Refusing too much would only seem ungrateful, so Chi Muyao wisely accepted the offer.
Xi Lin nodded and continued, “Also, regarding the date for the Daoist couple ceremony, do you have any thoughts?”
“So soon?!” Chi Muyao was startled.
Just as they had started dating, they were already planning to get married? It surprised him.
After all, it hadn’t been long since he and Xi Huai had confirmed their relationship…Xi Lin nodded. “Naturally. Since you’ve decided to follow that rascal, you should have a proper title.”
Chi Muyao glanced at Xi Huai and thought for a moment. Since he had chosen Xi Huai, he wasn’t going to change his mind, and so the ceremony was indeed necessary.
He obediently responded, “I’ll leave it to the seniors to decide.”
“I heard you’re quite skilled at divination. If you prefer, you can choose the date yourself. Our Qingze Sect isn’t bound by too many rules.”
“All right.”
As they continued to chat, other palace masters began to arrive at the main hall, seemingly wanting to meet Chi Muyao and express their gratitude.
Chi Muyao felt nervous and stiff under the gaze of so many senior cultivators at the Nascent Soul stage, not daring to move. These palace masters were also stunned upon seeing Chi Muyao, exchanging glances or staring in awe.
Could there really be such a handsome person in this world?
The palace masters couldn’t help but express their admiration.
“Wow!”
“Oh my!”
“Impressive.”
“Hmm—” Satisfied murmurs of approval.
Noticing Chi Muyao’s discomfort, Xi Huai decided to take him away.
The palace masters didn’t let Chi Muyao leave empty-handed, though. Each of them presented him with a gift: “This is a thousand-year-old coral, useful as a medicinal ingredient or for crafting artifacts.”
“This is a magical artifact I forged myself, with extraordinary power.”
…Qingze Sect had a somewhat unfortunate custom—an obsession with competition.
At this moment, the palace masters were competing over who could give Chi Muyao the most impressive gift. Some, seeing their offerings outdone, even added more items to their gift, all presented together.
Receiving so many gifts left Chi Muyao overwhelmed, and he repeatedly expressed his thanks. Finally, with Xi Huai’s protection, he was able to leave the main hall.
“Want to go for a walk?” Xi Huai asked him.
Having stayed on Xi Huai’s mountain for some time, Chi Muyao indeed felt a bit cooped up. It would be nice to go out and clear his mind.
“Sure, the flying artifact we ordered earlier should be ready. Let’s go pick it up.”
“Okay.”
During the Thousand Sect Meeting, they had ordered a cloud-shaped flying artifact, but soon after placing the order, they were trapped and hadn’t been able to retrieve it.
Now that everything had settled down, they finally had the time to pick it up.
Leaving Qingze Sect, Chi Muyao put on the peach blossom mask, not wanting to reveal his identity in public.
When they arrived at the marketplace, they noticed that some areas had been damaged due to the recent battle, and many cultivators were busy with repairs.
The repair process here was slower compared to Qingze Sect, which had ample resources.
They found the shop they had ordered from, and the owner quickly came out to greet them warmly.
The shopkeeper sincerely thanked them, “The recent battle between the two realms really frightened us. But we also heard about your heroic deeds. It’s thanks to the two of you that the Demon Sect was spared.”
Chi Muyao was delighted, thinking he could use this opportunity to haggle. “Could you give us a discount on the flying artifact then?”
“Ah… I’m afraid that’s not possible.”
“Oh…” He was a bit disappointed.
After thinking for a moment, the shopkeeper took out a small trinket and handed it to Chi Muyao, saying, “Here, take this as a complimentary gift.”
Chi Muyao picked it up and examined it. It was a cute wooden figurine that, when infused with spiritual energy, could move around, capable of simple tasks like fetching items or cleaning.
He quite liked it, especially since he and Xi Huai often spent their days in bed. It would be handy for fetching things from the Discipline Hall.
After retrieving the flying artifact, the two of them noticed more onlookers gathering around them in the street, likely drawn by the news of their visit.
Many people greeted them warmly, showing no hostility.
Chi Muyao touched his earlobe and muttered, “I’m really feeling a bit uncomfortable being stared at so much today.”
“Then let’s go somewhere you’ll feel more comfortable.”
Chi Muyao’s face immediately lit up. “To the Hehuan Sect?”
“Hmm, and in a few days, we’ll go to the Yu Chong Sect to deliver the wedding invitations.”
“Great!”
As they reached the end of the marketplace, they prepared to use their new flying artifacts to head to the Hehuan Sect together.
Chi Muyao looked at the pink cloud in front of Xi Huai, then at the white cloud in front of himself, and sighed in resignation, “Fine, I’ll take the pink one.”
He just couldn’t picture Xi Huai surrounded by pink.
“Sure.” Without hesitation, Xi Huai jumped onto the white flying artifact.
Chi Muyao sat on the cloud, feeling its soft, ethereal touch, and couldn’t help but marvel at its cuteness.
But once they took off, he was stunned. The cloud was incredibly fast, like a bullet, the fastest flying artifact he had ever ridden, bar none.
To the people on the ground, it probably looked less like a cloud and more like a shooting star.
By the time they reached the entrance of the Hehuan Sect, Chi Muyao was still shaken. After disembarking, he needed Xi Huai’s support to stand steadily. “This flying artifact is… way too intense…”
“You’ll get used to it.”
He leaned on Xi Huai to recover for a moment, then, with Xi Huai’s help, they entered the Hehuan Sect.
Inside, they were soon surrounded by a group of female disciples.
To Xi Huai, they were like a swarm of noisy mosquitoes, buzzing endlessly as they pulled Chi Muyao away from him.
“Why do you still seem so weak? Haven’t recovered yet? Is the Young Sect Master not feeding you enough?”
“Senior Brother! I saw you that day. You were amazing! I almost cried when I saw you!”
“Was it dangerous in the Heavenly Punishment Array?”
“Will you stay at the sect for a few days now?”
“Ah Jiu, want to have a drink together? I’ll prepare some snacks.”
“Senior Brother, I missed you so much!”
Gradually pushed to the edge of the crowd, Xi Huai could only watch the noisy scene from the outside, his expression blank and lifeless.
Other male cultivators, seeing so many female disciples from the Hehuan Sect, would be thrilled and overjoyed.
But Xi Huai only felt they were stealing his partner, their hands even daring to touch his face while they caught up with him!
Chi Muyao was at a loss, not knowing whom to respond to first, so he could only smile awkwardly.
He wanted to look back at Xi Huai, but then saw Xu Ranzhu standing before him, saying, “Young Sect Master, according to our Hehuan Sect’s rules, disciples are not allowed to see the groom before marriage. You’ll have to come pick him up on the wedding day.”
“What?!” Xi Huai was stunned. “There’s such a rule?”
Chi Muyao felt a bit troubled but nodded in agreement. “There really is.”
“You came back here on purpose?!” To avoid staying with him? To avoid a few more dual cultivation sessions?
“No, it’s just the proper procedure.”
“But—”
For the first time visiting the Hehuan Sect with Chi Muyao, Xi Huai found himself being escorted out shortly after entering. Before the gates closed, he called out, “Pick a closer date!”
He didn’t want to wait too long!
“Okay!” Chi Muyao responded quickly.
Standing outside the gate, Xi Huai was fuming, feeling like Chi Muyao had tricked him.
His cunning partner had plenty of ways to avoid dual cultivation.
Chi Muyao, following the colorful rope that tied them as Daoist partners, walked to a corner of the courtyard. He then noticed Xi Huai peeking over the wall, having broken through a corner of the sect’s protective array.
The Hehuan Sect had only activated their regular mountain defense array, allowing Xi Huai to forcibly break a small corner to enter.
If they had activated the main defense array, Xi Huai wouldn’t have been able to get in.
Chi Muyao quickly approached the wall and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“So, I’m really leaving?” Xi Huai asked, full of reluctance, hoping Chi Muyao would want to run away with him.
“Mhm, I’ll take good care of myself.”
“…” So, he really doesn’t want to leave with me, Xi Huai thought, feeling a bit down.
He leaned in closer, looking pitiful as he said, “Give me a kiss.”
Chi Muyao was amused and, with a light jump, kissed Xi Huai on the lips before landing back in the courtyard. “There you go!”
Xi Huai looked at Chi Muyao longingly for a while before finally jumping off the wall and leaving for real.
Chi Muyao made sure Xi Huai had truly left before heading back, only to discover a few of his senior sisters hiding behind the wall, watching them.
Xu Ranzhu, unfazed by being caught, commented with a teasing tone, “That was so sweet it hurts.”
“So that’s what kind of Sect Leader he is.”
“Won’t leave without a kiss from his partner, hahaha!”
T/N: I am done with all the chapters of this novel and they will be up on my patreon shortly. Sorry for the delay, my exam came in between so I took a little break.
