Chapter 11
“Auntie Hu, you really don’t need to worry about me. My classmate is very nice. You can rest assured.” Xia Yunxuan thought, “Where am I really going to find a classmate? I’m going to the black market.”
She said she was going to see her classmate just to put the Captain and Auntie Hu at ease.
Hu Guiqin looked at the time and knew it was time to go to work. She said to Xia Yunxuan, “Girl Yun, you need to come back early from town. It’s not safe for you to be alone. Don’t stay out too long.”
“Auntie is going to work now. If you need anything, just come find Auntie. Auntie will help you if she can. Don’t think about those things anymore. You’re still so young. You have a long life ahead of you.”
Xia Yunxuan said, “Auntie, don’t worry. I went to the underworld and saw how precious life is. I’m going to live a long, long life and make those who bullied me angry.”
Hu Guiqin felt a little more at ease after hearing the little girl say this. She was afraid that the little girl was young and would do something rash.
As Hu Guiqin left, she was still muttering under her breath, “That family is truly heartless! They treated such a good daughter so badly.”
After the Captain and Hu Guiqin left, Xia Yunxuan prepared to go to town.
She had to go to town. Besides the clothes she was wearing, she had nothing. How was she going to live? She had to buy some things.
Luckily, she had broken off the relationship with that heartless family. She could live on her own. She could eat and drink well, and no one would bother her.
Xia Yunxuan walked out of the village. There was no one in sight. Everyone must have gone to work.
She was supposed to work too, but she had nothing. The Captain had given her two days off to get her own little home settled.
In these days, people relied on work points to eat. If you didn’t work, you wouldn’t have food. Although she had billions of supplies, she couldn’t openly use them. She couldn’t be so blatant.
Once she got settled, she would naturally go to work. She would just have to pick an easy job to cover up. She had so many supplies, she could eat for a lifetime. Why would she work so hard for a few work points that wouldn’t even get her money?
Xia Yunxuan arrived in town, sweating profusely. This body was too weak. She couldn’t even use her strength properly. She had to train.
These days were different from the future. If someone grabbed your hand, you had to marry them. She absolutely couldn’t suffer that kind of loss.
Xia Yunxuan walked to a small alleyway. When she saw that there was no one around, she flashed into her space. She needed to tidy herself up. These days, whether it was the supply and marketing cooperative or the state-owned restaurant, they all looked down on people with no money. She didn’t want to buy something and get scolded for being poor.
She washed her hair and took a bath in her space. She put on the most inconspicuous clothes she could find in her space. Immediately, she looked different. The original owner was truly a beautiful girl, seven points similar to her in her previous life.
Since she was already in her space, she also found some snacks to eat, as an afternoon tea. She had stocked up on so many snacks. If she didn’t eat them, wouldn’t that be crazy?
After eating and drinking her fill and tidying herself up, Xia Yunxuan flashed out of her space. She had to go to the supply and marketing cooperative first to see what they sold. Then she could take things out of her space. If she took something that didn’t exist in this era, she would be giving people a handle.
The town was small. Xia Yunxuan walked a few streets and arrived at the supply and marketing cooperative. She saw the things they sold. Luckily, she had stocked up on supplies that were similar to this era. She could take many things out and use them.
Right now, she could only look. She was truly broke. Luckily, she had prepared beforehand and changed her outfit. Even if she didn’t buy anything, the clerks wouldn’t roll their eyes at her.
She had to find the black market. She had to ask people around. If the black market eldest brother was reliable, she would make a big deal with him. If he wasn’t, she would sell some things to get some quick cash to get through the immediate crisis.
Xia Yunxuan was lucky. Not long after she left the supply and marketing cooperative, she saw an old lady holding a headscarf, looking left and right. Xia Yunxuan guessed that this person was going to the black market. She followed behind her. They walked through a few alleys, and behind a big tree was the black market.
Now that she had found the place, Xia Yunxuan wasn’t in a hurry. She walked to a secluded spot and flashed into her space. She had to disguise herself for the black market. She couldn’t walk in so openly.
After fixing herself up in her space, she looked at least ten years older. Even if the Captain stood in front of Xia Yunxuan, he probably wouldn’t recognize her.
Xia Yunxuan looked at herself in the mirror and was very satisfied. This was exactly the effect she wanted. She also learned from the older women and carried a basket covered with a cloth. She walked towards the black market.
Xia Yunxuan arrived at the entrance of the black market. Two young men guarding the door said, “Are you buying or selling? If you’re selling, you have to pay two cents. If you’re buying, you don’t have to pay.”
Xia Yunxuan said, “I want to buy. I don’t know if you have what I need. Can I take a look first?”
The two guards didn’t say anything and nodded. Xia Yunxuan didn’t say anything more. She carried her basket and went in. Since her basket was covered with cloth, the two guards didn’t know what she was carrying.
Xia Yunxuan went in and saw many people selling things. There were people selling chickens, ducks, fish, rice, and fruits.
However, she looked at the quality of the fruits. With her standards, she couldn’t stand them. They were all wilted and not very good-looking. They probably wouldn’t taste good either.
The rice they sold was all broken. Some even had sand in it. The flour was yellow, not white at all.
Only the older women selling eggs from their homes looked decent.
Xia Yunxuan went to an older woman who looked kind and said, “Hello, Auntie. What are you selling?”
The older woman saw that it was a younger woman and greeted her quietly, “You’re welcome, girl. I’m selling some mountain goods from our mountains and some eggs we saved from home.”
Xia Yunxuan asked the older woman, “Do you come here often? Do you know what the black market eldest brother is like?”
“Girl, you’re asking the right person. I come here often. Although I haven’t met the black market eldest brother, I’ve been coming here for so long, and nothing bad has ever happened. No one has ever forced me to buy or sell anything.”
“And if anyone comes to check, the people watching out for the black market will notify us and tell us to leave quickly.”
“That’s why we dare to sell things here. Even if we have to pay a few cents, we’re willing. At least it’s safe and reliable.”
“Oh,” Xia Yunxuan said. “Thank you, Auntie. This is my first time here. I don’t know much. I’m a little scared, so I asked you.”
“Girl, you’re right. It’s better to be safe than sorry. These days, it’s not easy for us farmers to make a living. We’re afraid that those Little Red Soldier s will come and check.”
