Chapter 5: Thoughts of Divorce

Tang Xiangdong had been looking forward to Tang Xiaorou’s betrothal gift money so he could marry a wife, but now Tang Xiaorou had gotten married to this man, so he already disliked Shen Huaixu. Seeing him blocking the way, he said, “Get out of my way, or I’ll beat you up too.”

“You can try.”

Shen Huaixu lightly lifted his eyelids and glanced at Tang Xiangdong. His superior posture gave off a strong sense of oppression.

“You…”

Tang Xiangdong suddenly stopped moving. This man was clearly a handsome pretty boy, but he felt a little scary. Even Tang Jianhua didn’t dare to step forward anymore, and could only watch helplessly as his mother and wife were beaten by Tang Xiaorou.

Yang Erzhu watched the commotion, his face darkening.

“Tang, didn’t you say your daughter was hardworking, timid, and obedient? Does she look like that?” He felt he had been deceived. He just wanted an obedient woman, but Tang Xiaorou was ruthless and dared to beat her own father and grandmother. If he really married her, their home would be chaotic.

Tang Jianshe was unable to move and didn’t care about Yang Erzhu.

After beating Grandma Tang and Li Cuilan to the ground, Tang Xiaorou turned to Yang Erzhu and said, “You said you wanted to marry me for 200 yuan in betrothal gifts. Unfortunately, I’m already married, and my husband is a soldier. If you dare to interfere with our marriage, that’s undermining a military marriage, and I’ll sue you all and send you to jail.”

“What?”

Yang Erzhu was startled. He looked carefully at Shen Huaixu. Seeing the man’s upright posture and imposing aura, he lost all interest in marrying Tang Xiaorou. He didn’t like feisty girls to begin with, and now her husband was a soldier. What if something really happened?

However, thinking about how he had been tricked by Tang Jianshe, he was very unhappy.

“Tang Jianshe, you actually dared to play me. You’re going to pay for this.”

Seeing Yang Erzhu about to leave, Tang Xiaorou said with a smile, “Don’t rush to leave. We still have someone who isn’t married. Look, there she is.”

Tang Xiaorou pointed at Tang Rufang with the stick, “She’s Tang Xiangdong’s younger sister. If Tang Xiangdong wants to marry a wife, he should have his younger sister marry someone to get money. What does it have to do with me, a cousin from a different branch? Don’t you think so?”

There wasn’t a single good person in the Tang family. Tang Rufang appeared gentle and soft-spoken, but secretly, she often gave Grandma Tang and Li Cuilan ideas. The original Tang Xiaorou might not have understood, but the current Tang Xiaorou saw clearly that Tang Rufang had instigated many things, causing the original Tang Xiaorou and her mother to suffer more.

Tang Rufang didn’t expect Tang Xiaorou to say this. Seeing Yang Erzhu looking at her, she shrieked, “I already have a boyfriend.”

Tang Xiaorou sneered, “You only have a boyfriend, you’re not married, so it’s fine.”

Yang Erzhu thought this made sense. Moreover, Tang Rufang was prettier than Tang Xiaorou, fair and gentle. “Okay, I’ll marry her.”

Although Tang Jianhua was being stopped by Shen Huaixu, hearing Yang Erzhu’s words, he said coldly, “You’re dreaming. Rufang already has a boyfriend and is getting married soon. How could she possibly marry you?”

Li Cuilan, clutching her waist, stood up and cursed, “Yang Erzhu, you should look at your age! You actually dare to covet our Rufang. You’re shameless!”

“So, Uncle and Aunt know Yang Erzhu is old and don’t want to give up their daughter, but they are willing to give up me, their niece from a different branch? You’re really shameless!” In the end, Tang Xiaorou’s anger flared up again, and she grabbed the stick and was about to hit them.

“What are you doing?”

Just then, Grandpa Tang returned.

Seeing Grandpa Tang, the Tang family members felt reassured and recounted the events.

Grandpa Tang looked sharply at Tang Xiaorou, but quickly shifted his gaze to Yang Erzhu and said, “Erzhu, Jianshe was just joking with you. Our family doesn’t intend to marry off our daughter.”

Yang Erzhu looked at Tang Rufang with some reluctance.

But he knew this wasn’t going to work and left the Tang family dejectedly. He now resented Tang Jianshe and the Tang family.  The deal had fallen through, and anyone would be unhappy.

After Yang Erzhu left, Grandpa Tang looked at Tang Xiaorou and said, “Have you made enough of a scene? Put down the stick. You’re married now, you can’t behave like this and lose face for the Tang family.”

Tang Xiaorou looked at Grandpa Tang’s wrinkled face and sneered, “Of course I haven’t made enough of a scene. I want Tang Jianshe to divorce my mother.”

The Tang family members were all stunned.

Tang Jianshe stood up cursing, shouting angrily, “You rebellious girl, you dare to interfere with my affairs! Everyone advises against divorce, but you want me to divorce your mother. I tell you, don’t even think about it!”

Grandma Tang followed suit, cursing, “Shameless girl, don’t think you can be arrogant just because you’re married. Even if you’re married, your mother won’t leave with you. She was born into the Tang family, and she’ll die as a Tang family ghost.”

Tang Xiaorou sneered, “Once my mother divorces Tang Jianshe, she’ll have nothing to do with your Tang family.”

Qin Xueqiong also looked at her daughter in shock. She never expected her daughter to have such an idea, but… no one would get a divorce, especially since her daughter was already married. If she got divorced, where would she go?

Just as Qin Xueqiong was thinking about whether to speak, Grandma Tang said with a bitter expression, “Tang Erya, although you’re married, if your mother divorces, you might be returned. Who would marry a woman whose parents are divorced? And where would Qin Xueqiong go after the divorce? Her parents are long gone, and her only brother is missing.  The Tang family is willing to take her in, it’s her good fortune.”

Shen Huaixu said at the right moment, “No, I support my mother-in-law’s divorce, and she can live with us afterward. She won’t be without a place to go. We’ll take care of her.”

“You…”

The Tang family members looked at Shen Huaixu in disbelief. They thought he must have been charmed by Tang Xiaorou. He even supported his mother-in-law’s divorce and was willing to take care of her.

Qin Xueqiong, hearing Shen Huaixu’s words, also looked at him in shock, her eyes gradually reddening.  She was happy for her daughter.

Shen Huaixu’s willingness to take in his mother-in-law showed that he was a good person, and she was also a little moved. If she could really leave the Tang family, she wouldn’t be beaten every day.

However, Tang Jianshe looked at Qin Xueqiong and sneered, “Want a divorce? No way. You just need a beating. One beating isn’t enough, two beatings will get rid of that idea.”

Seeing Tang Jianshe’s ferocious expression, Qin Xueqiong shrank her neck, a flash of fear in her eyes the shadow of years of beatings.

Seeing her mother’s reaction, Tang Xiaorou’s anger flared.  She was scared of being beaten.

“You don’t want a divorce, huh? Fine, I’ll make you beg for one later.”
