Chapter 53: Disappointment

Hearing this, Shen Huaixu patted the man on the shoulder. “It’s okay. Actually, I should thank you. If it weren’t for the blind date with your sister, I wouldn’t have gone to Ning City, and I wouldn’t have met my wife.  It was meant to be.”

Tang Yuejin was the deputy regiment commander of the second regiment, and Shen Huaixu was the regiment commander of the first regiment. When he learned that Shen Huaixu wanted to find a partner because he had adopted two children, he immediately thought of his sister. However, he had a mission at the time, so he contacted his family and had Shen Huaixu go on a blind date with his sister.

Who would have thought that when he returned from his mission, he learned that his sister hadn’t gone on the blind date, and Shen Huaixu was already married.

Hearing Shen Huaixu’s words, Tang Yuejin felt very uncomfortable. He really thought Shen Huaixu was a very good person. His sister had missed such a good match and would regret it for the rest of her life, but it was too late now.

“Regiment Commander Shen, I just came to apologize and wish you a happy marriage.”

“Thank you.”

Shen Huaixu didn’t ask why Tang Yuejin’s sister hadn’t gone on the blind date, but he was very grateful that he had met Tang Xiaorou by chance.

Just as he thought this, Tang Xiaorou returned with Xiaoyan.

Seeing them, Shen Huaixu’s lips curved into a smile. “You’re back. Let’s go home.”

“Okay.”

Tang Xiaorou responded with a smile, curiously glancing at Tang Yuejin.

“Hello, sister-in-law.”

Tang Yuejin also saw Tang Xiaorou and quickly greeted her. He also knew that his sister had completely lost her chance. He had never seen Shen Huaixu treat a woman so kindly before, but now, Shen Huaixu subconsciously smiled when he saw Tang Xiaorou, showing that the couple had a good relationship. “Regiment Commander Shen, sister-in-law, I’ll go back now.” He quickly left.

After Tang Yuejin left, Tang Xiaorou raised an eyebrow. “The person you were supposed to go on a blind date with was his sister?”

Shen Huaixu didn’t hide it and nodded. “Yes, his name is Tang Yuejin, and his hometown is also in Ning City.  I went there to meet his sister, but she didn’t go, you did.”

In the end, he couldn’t help but laugh.

“It was such a coincidence. When you introduced yourself as Tang Xiaorou, I thought you were Tang Yuejin’s sister. I thought you had beautiful eyes, bright and full of vitality.

Then we were both satisfied and quickly got our marriage certificate.  Who would have thought we both got the wrong blind date partner? But I’m glad it was you.” In the end, Shen Huaixu looked straight at Tang Xiaorou, his eyes deep.

Seeing Shen Huaixu’s gaze, Tang Xiaorou blushed slightly and quickly lowered her head. “Let’s go back. My mother might be waiting at home.” She didn’t know what was wrong with this man. He suddenly became so eloquent, his gaze so direct, it made her feel embarrassed.

Seeing this, Shen Huaixu picked up Xiaoyan. “Okay, let’s go home.”

Qin Xueqiong was indeed waiting at home, and Yao Bingcheng had already brought Xiaoliang back.

“You’re all back. I saw cabbage, potatoes, and cured meat in the kitchen, so I made a simple cured meat rice. Wash your hands and come eat.”

Xiaoyan and Xiaoliang were happy to see their grandmother and ran forward, smiling. “Grandma”

“Okay… Xiaoliang and Xiaoyan, were you well-behaved at school today?”

“Well-behaved”

Both children had adapted well to school, so Tang Xiaorou was relieved. Qin Xueqiong recounted what had happened and finally pulled her daughter aside. “I think that military wife, Li Meilian, has a problem with you, and she might come to borrow the sewing machine.”

“Don’t worry, Mom. I definitely won’t lend it to her. She said those things to me, why would I lend it to her?”

Seeing her daughter’s assertive manner, Qin Xueqiong nodded. “Yes, don’t lend it. That other round-faced military wife also said she would borrow it. If everyone borrows it, you might not even get to use it yourself.” However, she was thinking about Grandma Yao at the guesthouse, so without eating, she took her food and left with Yao Bingcheng.

Meanwhile, Tang Yuejin had just returned home when he was stopped by a haggard woman.

“Brother, what about the comrade you mentioned?”

Hearing this, Tang Yuejin threw his sister’s hand away. “He’s married. You’re too late.” In the end, he reprimanded her with disappointment. “I sent a telegram, clearly stating that Shen Huaixu was a good match, but you didn’t go on the blind date. Now, he’s married to another girl. What are you doing here now?”

Hearing this, Tang Hongmei’s already haggard face became even paler.

“Brother, do you have any other comrades you can introduce to me?”

Tang Yuejin looked at his sister suspiciously. “Why are you so eager to get married now? When I introduced Regiment Commander Shen to you, why didn’t you go?”

“I didn’t want to get married so soon then, but I do now.”

However, Tang Yuejin wasn’t so easily fooled.

“Tell me honestly, what happened?”

“I…”

Tang Hongmei didn’t want to say, but seeing her brother’s serious expression, she said with red eyes, “I was seeing a male intellectual youth from our village, so I didn’t want to go on the blind date. But unexpectedly, he suddenly left me and went back to the city.”

“You… you’re so foolish.”

Tang Yuejin had guessed that his sister had someone she liked, but he never expected it to be an intellectual youth. “Which intellectual youth in the village?”

“You don’t know him. He’s a new intellectual youth who arrived in the past two years.”

Tang Yuejin hadn’t been back to his hometown for several years and naturally wouldn’t know him, so Tang Hongmei didn’t explain further. “Brother, can I stay here for a while? I don’t want to go back. If I go back, I’ll think of that heartless man.” In the end, her face was full of hatred.

He was her own sister, so Tang Yuejin agreed.

“Okay, stay here first. When your sister-in-law comes back tonight, I’ll tell her.”

“Okay, thank you, brother.”

Seeing that her brother agreed, Tang Hongmei felt relieved. But thinking that she had come suddenly without bringing anything, she needed to buy some daily necessities. “Brother, can you give me some money? I didn’t bring anything.”

Tang Yuejin sighed and gave her ten yuan. “It’s getting late. Go to the supply and marketing cooperative tomorrow morning. Let’s go get some food now.”

“Okay.”

After the siblings got their food, they were about to go home when Tang Yuejin was temporarily called away, so he let Tang Hongmei go back alone.

“Ah…”

“Hey!  Don’t you have eyes? You bumped into me!”

Tang Hongmei looked at the woman with delicate features and a dark blue dress and quickly apologized. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.”

Zhang Wanyu was already in a bad mood, and now she was even worse.  Hearing Tang Hongmei speak, she raised her eyebrows and looked at her. “Where are you from? Your accent sounds like it’s from Zhejiang Province.”

“Yes, I’m from Ning City, Zhejiang Province.”

Zhang Wanyu snorted coldly. “Ning City again.”
