Chapter 58: Coming to the Door

Hearing Old Yu’s words, Tang Xiaorou shook her head and said, “I have no grudge against her. She coveted my husband, so she sees me as a thorn in her side.”

“What… she coveted your husband?”

Old Yu looked incredulous, then he scorned Zhang Wanyu. “How could she do that? Your husband is a married man; she should have avoided him.”

“Maybe she thinks I stole the man she likes.” In the end, Tang Xiaorou proudly said, “But my husband chose me and married me.  Even if Zhang Wanyu likes him, it’s useless. My husband doesn’t even remember who she is.”

“Hahaha… if that woman saw you like this, she’d probably be furious.”

“Let her be furious.  It’ll save her from constantly seeking attention from me.”  Tang Xiaorou thought of Zhang Wanyu and shook her head. But she didn’t have time to deal with her now. “Old Yu, I have to pick up the children now. I’ll go first.”

“Okay, go quickly.”

Old Yu waved his hand with a smile. After Tang Xiaorou left, he hummed a tune and sipped his tea.

“Old Yu, you’re in a good mood.”

Hearing Xiaodou’s words, Old Yu laughed heartily. “Of course! The Doctor Tang I found has superb medical skills, and she doesn’t like working in a hospital; she prefers to work at our pharmacy. Don’t you think that’s something to be happy about?”

Tang Xiaorou didn’t realize she was so important to Old Yu. When she arrived at the kindergarten, she just happened to pick up Xiao Yan. The two got on their bicycles and headed home.

On the other hand, Zhang Wanyu went back early, but she didn’t return to the art troupe. Instead, she went to find Tang Hongmei.

“Comrade Zhang, what’s the matter?”

Seeing Tang Hongmei’s haggard appearance, Zhang Wanyu expressed her concern, then sighed and said, “Sigh… you and Tang Xiaorou both came from the countryside near Ning City, but now your lives are worlds apart.

You know, I went to the pharmacy in town to get medicine today, and I ran into Tang Xiaorou.”

Tang Hongmei was already feeling down, and after hearing Zhang Wanyu’s words, she felt even worse. She asked bitterly, “Did she go to get medicine too?”

Zhang Wanyu shook her head. “No, Tang Xiaorou works at the pharmacy.  How could she, a country girl, find such a good job? It must be Commander Shen who helped her find it.

If you had gone on a blind date with Commander Shen back then, all this would be yours now.

You would have a job in the city and become the daughter-in-law of the Shen family in Beijing. Your future would be bright.”

Hearing this, Tang Hongmei clenched her fists.

Yes, if she had gone on that blind date, all this would have been hers. She wouldn’t be in this situation now.

Seeing the gloom in Tang Hongmei’s eyes, Zhang Wanyu couldn’t help but smile.  She casually mentioned the address of Xinglin Pharmacy.

“It’s on the central street in town, a very large pharmacy. Tang Xiaorou being able to work there is entirely thanks to Commander Shen. Otherwise, a country girl without even a license, how could she work at such a large pharmacy?”

“What license?”

Seeing that Tang Hongmei didn’t understand at all, Zhang Wanyu quickly explained, “You need a license to practice medicine. Even village barefoot doctors have barefoot doctor certificates. So, Tang Xiaorou working at a pharmacy and practicing medicine is completely against the rules.”

After saying all this, Zhang Wanyu chatted with Tang Hongmei about other things before leaving. However, when she returned to the art troupe in a good mood, she was stopped by someone.

“Zhang Wanyu, why did you go out without asking for leave? Don’t you know that’s against the rules?”

Hearing this, Zhang Wanyu frowned and looked at the dignified woman in front of her and said, “Zheng Fang, you don’t need to worry about my business.”

“You… I can’t really control your affairs, I’m just reminding you, don’t always think about going out, and don’t keep thinking about other people’s husbands. Don’t make a fool of yourself; it’s embarrassing for our entire art troupe.”

They had all heard about Zhang Wanyu causing a scene at the family housing area.

When they heard about it, everyone was shocked. They never expected Zhang Wanyu to go directly to question Shen Huaixu.  Then they felt embarrassed.  What kind of woman chases after a man like that? Especially since Shen Huaixu was married, Zhang Wanyu shouldn’t have done that.

However, after hearing Zheng Fang’s words, Zhang Wanyu became angry.

“Zheng Fang, it’s none of your business to lecture me.  You should mind your own business.  It’s not like everyone is like you, liking poor boys. Be careful you don’t get cheated out of your money and your body.”

Zheng Fang was furious. “Don’t you dare slander Zhou Li!”

In a short while, the two of them started arguing.

Tang Xiaorou didn’t know things were so lively at the family housing area. After she got home with Xiao Yan, Xiao Liang also came back. She made a simple dinner, and after eating, she took the two children to bed. She was tired after a busy day.

When Shen Huaixu got home, he saw Tang Xiaorou and the two children sleeping peacefully. He gently carried Tang Xiaorou back to the bedroom, and then gently tucked the two children into bed.

The next morning, Tang Xiaorou unsurprisingly woke up in the master bedroom. But Shen Huaixu had already left for work. After washing up, she hurriedly fed the children breakfast and then took them to school.

“Whew… today I was early.”

Seeing Tang Xiaorou panting, Old Yu couldn’t help but laugh. “It’s okay if you come a little later, you don’t have to rush so much.”

“It’s not really rushing. I had to send the kids to school anyway.” Tang Xiaorou replied with a smile, and then began to familiarize herself with the medicine cabinets and prices.  She wasn’t very proficient last time dispensing medicine, so she needed to memorize them.

However, just as Tang Xiaorou was familiarizing herself with the prices, a pale and haggard woman walked in.

Xiaodou was the first to see her and quickly stepped forward to ask, “May I ask if you are here for a consultation or to get medicine?”

“Consultation.”

The woman said without hesitation, then pointed at Tang Xiaorou and asked, “Is she the doctor at the pharmacy? I want to see her.”

Xiaodou didn’t immediately agree but looked at Tang Xiaorou for confirmation.

Tang Xiaorou stopped what she was doing and nodded. “Okay, I’ll see you.”

After the two sat down, Tang Xiaorou said, “Let me take your pulse first.  Extend your hand.”

The visitor was Tang Hongmei.  She stared straight at Tang Xiaorou. Hearing this, she cooperated and extended her hand.

Tang Xiaorou carefully took her pulse, then a smile appeared in her eyes. Just as she was about to speak, the woman suddenly said, “My name is Tang Hongmei. I was Shen Huaixu’s blind date.”

“What…”

Hearing this, Tang Xiaorou looked over in surprise.

Tang Hongmei continued, “It’s all because of you. You took everything from me.”
