Chapter 62: A Visit to Express Gratitude

“When I have time, I’ll ask the director to see if we can invite her.”

Tang Xiaorou didn’t know she was being considered.  After a quick lunch at home, she rushed back to the pharmacy to work and picked up Xiao Yan from kindergarten after school.

“Xiaorou, you’re back.”

As soon as Tang Xiaorou arrived home, she saw Shen Huaixu and Xiao Liang returning. She was surprised. “Did you pick up Xiao Liang today?”

“Yes, I had time today, so I picked up Xiao Liang.”

They entered the house with the children. While Shen Huaixu went to the kitchen to cook, Tang Xiaorou followed. Raising an eyebrow at Shen Huaixu, she said, “Your blind date was Tang Yuejin’s sister.”

Hearing this, Shen Huaixu quickly looked up and asked, “How did you know?”

“Tang Yuejin’s sister, Tang Hongmei, told me herself at the pharmacy. She said I stole everything from her; she was supposed to marry you.”

Shen Huaixu’s expression darkened.

“Why would Tang Yuejin’s sister do this? She didn’t come, and besides, we’re already married. Why would she go to you?”

Seeing Shen Huaixu’s displeasure, Tang Xiaorou stood on tiptoe and patted his shoulder. “It’s a good thing you met me. You should really thank me.”

“Yes, I’m very lucky to have met you.”

Seeing Shen Huaixu looking at her intently, Tang Xiaorou felt a little embarrassed. She cleared her throat and recounted today’s events, finally saying, “Tang Hongmei was sent to the military hospital.

I don’t know how she is now, but I’m curious why Tang Hongmei fought with Zhang Wanyu. They shouldn’t know each other.”

Shen Huaixu hadn’t expected so much to happen today; he also thought of this point.

“I’ll find out about this. As for Tang Hongmei, I’ll also tell Tang Yuejin.”

“Okay, I’ll leave the rest to you.”

Meanwhile, Tang Yuejin, whom they were talking about, arrived at the hospital. He anxiously went to the ward. Seeing that his sister hadn’t woken up and his wife was watching over her, he quickly asked, “Sue, what happened? Why was Hongmei sent to the hospital?”

Mentioning this, Xu Sue sighed. “Do you know Hongmei was pregnant?”

“What!”

Tang Yuejin exclaimed in shock, but Xu Sue quickly stopped him. “Keep your voice down; Hongmei just had surgery and needs to rest.”

However, Tang Yuejin couldn’t help but worry. He grabbed his wife and asked, “How did Hongmei get pregnant?”

“I don’t know. She was already pregnant before coming here. Unfortunately, she got into a fight today and had a miscarriage.” Xu Sue shook her head, not knowing what to say.

Tang Yuejin’s face turned livid.

“How could she be so careless? An unmarried girl getting pregnant; isn’t she afraid of being gossiped about?” Then he remembered his sister asking him to find her a partner and felt even angrier. “Good heavens, that’s what she was planning! She’s really something!”

Seeing her husband’s anger, Xu Sue quickly said, “Alright, don’t get angry. Hongmei suffered a lot this time; she almost died. So, when she wakes up, be gentle. Wait until she’s better before you say anything.”

“How am I supposed to be gentle? You know why she came here to get me to find her a partner. But she knew she was pregnant and still dared to ask. She wanted to ruin my comrade’s life. If it had actually happened, how would I face my comrade?”

“Brother, I…I didn’t know I was pregnant.”

Tang Hongmei, who had just woken up, explained with bitterness upon hearing her brother’s words.

“Even if you didn’t know you were pregnant, you were already intimate with someone.  And yet, you still asked me to introduce you to someone.”

Tang Hongmei wept, filled with regret. If she had known Zhang Dong would abandon her and return to the city, she wouldn’t have been with him. But now, it was too late to say anything.

Seeing Tang Hongmei like this, Xu Sue pulled her husband. “Alright, Hongmei just woke up; let her rest.”

Tang Yuejin snorted coldly and left the ward. He needed to calm down.

Xu Sue comforted Tang Hongmei, telling her to recover first, and they would talk about the rest later.

Tang Hongmei nodded silently, but her heart was filled with despair. So many people had witnessed today’s events; she was ashamed to stay here. But what would she do when she returned home? Would she really marry a villager and spend her life working the land? Just thinking about it made her suffocate.

Seeing Tang Hongmei’s expression, Xu Sue quickly changed the subject. “By the way, do you know who stopped your bleeding today? The doctor said we should thank that person. If she hadn’t stopped your bleeding in time, you might not have made it to the hospital.”

Hearing this, Tang Hongmei paused before saying, “It was Captain Shen’s wife, Tang Xiaorou. She saved me.”

“What…her!”

Xu Sue was very surprised. She never imagined that Tang Xiaorou would have saved Tang Hongmei. “In that case, we need to thank her properly.”

“Yes, we should thank her properly. She’s truly good, much better than me.”

After this incident, Tang Hongmei admired Tang Xiaorou’s character, but she also hated Zhang Wanyu even more. “But Zhang Wanyu caused this; I won’t let her get away with it.”

Xu Sue finally had the chance to ask, “How did you get into a fight with Zhang Wanyu? When did you develop this feud?”

“Humph…She used me to deal with Tang Xiaorou. After I discovered her scheme, we fought.”

“What…”

Xu Sue’s face fell. “Then we really can’t let her off. Today, she put your life in danger, and she didn’t even apologize. She’s despicable.”

After hearing the whole story from Tang Hongmei, Xu Sue quickly went out to tell her husband and finally asked, “When should we go to Captain Shen’s house?”

“I’ll go to Captain Shen’s place. You stay at the hospital and take care of Hongmei.”

“Okay, I’ll leave it to you.”

Tang Yuejin still cared about his sister. After asking the doctor and learning that she was fine, he left the hospital. Then he bought apples and canned goods and went to Shen Huaixu’s house.

“Sister-in-law, thank you so much for saving Hongmei today.”
