Gu Yundong silently sat up from the bed and glanced at the three still soundly asleep. She then shook Gu Yunshu awake.
The little guy, still sleepy, couldn’t help but rub his eyes and yawned, “Sis…”
“Shh.” Gu Yundong lowered her voice and gestured towards the door, asking in a hushed tone, “Do you remember what I told you before?”
Gu Yunshu suddenly woke up, remembering the words his sister had said to him.
“I remember. Someone wants to steal our silver, block our way, and desecrate our ancestral graves,” he clenched his fists, “Sis, have the thieves come?”
Thanks to the training during the evacuation, Gu Yunshu, though disgusted and hateful towards these thieves, was not afraid of them. So, instead of hiding under the covers, he looked ready to go out and fight them.
“They’ve come,” Gu Yundong smiled faintly, silently opened the door of the room, walked to the chair in the living room, and sat down, staring intently at the nearby double doors, waiting for them to come in.
Gu Yunshu also immediately took out a wooden stick from the corner and moved to her side, ready to fight.
At this moment, outside in the courtyard, four shadowy figures were sneaking down from the wall.
Perhaps because the wall was a bit high, one of them stumbled, almost making a sound. Another person quickly covered his mouth and nose, preventing him from making a noise.
“Where to?” After adjusting to the surroundings in the courtyard, these people began to observe the environment around them.
They had never been to Mrs. Fang’s house before.
After all, there were many troubles at the widow’s door, and Mrs. Fang happened to be the second daughter-in-law of the village chief. So, these petty thieves usually avoided wandering around here, let alone the chance to enter this house.
Now that Mrs. Fang was not at home, but there lived a wealthy family with no strong backing, they thought it was a golden opportunity.
“I’ve found out. The Gu family of four lives in the left room.”
“Good. Zhanzi and Big Money will go in first later. Doggy, you stay outside to keep watch.”
“Got it.”
“Boss, I’ve found out that the house of the Gu family costs at least seventy to eighty taels. I guess she’s already given Feng Daneng several taels, so the rest is probably in the room. Don’t worry about the two little kids in the Gu family; children sleep soundly. Later, we’ll stick to the old rules: Zhanzi and Big Money will hold knives to guard the two older ones. If they wake up, we can threaten them not to make a sound. Boss, you go look for the silver.”
“Just thinking about how we’ll soon have dozens of taels of silver makes me excited. I want to go to the latrine.”
“You have no class. Let me tell you, there’s definitely more than just a few dozen taels. Think about it, if you only had seventy to eighty taels, would you spend it all on building such a big brick and tile house? A thatched cottage can also accommodate people. I think there must be at least a few hundred taels. Damn, I’m so excited, I want to go to the latrine too.”
Excitedly, the group of people approached the living room. Little did they know, Gu Yundong hadn’t even had seventy to eighty taels when she dared to build a hundred-tael house.
Gu Yundong heard the rustling sounds of their approach and the faint grunting noises. She smiled silently, waiting for these people to walk into her trap.
However, she waited and waited, but the door remained closed.
Gu Yunshu, holding the stick, almost fell asleep again. Gu Yundong finally lost her patience. She opened the door of the living room and looked outside. But where were the people?
