The End of the World Scavenger: I Win by Turning Waste into Treasure Chapter 34 – Picking Up Trash

The three of them were all quite satisfied, their faces unconsciously tinged with faint smiles.

All the supplies had been divided up, leaving behind a mess of cardboard and useless items scattered on the ground.

Besides the junk, there were also four large burlap sacks on the ground.

Two belonged to Zheng Ziyu, and two to Yu Hongfei.

Getting the items back was the next problem.

The most time- and energy-efficient way was to put them into Lin Chu’s space.

Yu Hongfei scratched his head, unsure how to bring it up, but Zheng Ziyu had already taken the initiative to ask Lin Chu for help.

“Chuchu, if your space has room, could you help me bring these back? From my stuff, you can pick five items you like.”

“Or… I can trade you something worth 10 points.”

Zheng Ziyu’s expression was sincere and earnest. Naturally, Lin Chu had no reason to refuse.

From Zheng Ziyu’s supplies, she took a bag of hair ties and a baseball cap.

“These two are enough. It’s just moving some things. As long as you trust me, that’s all that matters.”

As she spoke, she collected Zheng Ziyu’s share right into her space in front of her.

After all, Zheng Ziyu was her first collaborator—essentially a VIP customer in her point-earning scheme. Lin Chu had always been generous to those who were willing to trust and cooperate with her.

Zheng Ziyu could clearly see that Lin Chu was giving her special treatment.

She immediately thanked her repeatedly.

“Lin Chu, I need your help too. Like Xiao Zheng, I can pay you with supplies or items worth 10 points from the system store.”

Upon hearing this, Lin Chu thought for a moment. “Does your system have more advanced goods?”

“The kind that newcomers can’t buy?”

When Lin Chu asked that, Yu Hongfei immediately nodded.

“There are some, but they all cost a lot of points.”

He started listing a few, but Lin Chu waved him off. “You’d better write down the names and prices tomorrow. Save this 10-point credit, and let’s settle it with the anatomy cut next time to exchange for system goods.”

Hearing things out loud wasn’t convenient for cross-comparing. Since points were limited, she had to spend them wisely—it was better to analyze them on paper.

After finalizing the credit arrangement with Yu Hongfei, Lin Chu neatly stored his two burlap sacks into her space as well.

With everything divided, the three of them went around the shelves again, switching areas to ensure they hadn’t missed anything.

This time they were just sifting through the discarded items to see if anything useful had been overlooked.

All three took supplies seriously and checked thoroughly, but given everyone had a different perspective, it was possible that something useless to one person might be valuable to another.

Sure enough, Lin Chu found a large box in the corner.

Inside were eight children’s puzzle toys. When Lin Chu was little and selling pork with her stepfather, she had seen city kids playing with them.

They were called maze balls.

Maze balls were transparent, plastic spheres even bigger than a human head.

Inside were winding, complex tracks all tangled together.

There was also a heavy steel ball inside.

The objective was to roll the steel ball through the internal tracks to reach the end.

It was a little brain-training game for kids.

In the apocalypse, toys like this were practically useless.

But Lin Chu was very interested in it.

Or rather, she was interested in what was inside it.

She raised her hand and swept the entire box into her space.

The three had already agreed that in this final round of scavenging, anyone could take what they wanted without notifying the others.

Though it was a bit surprising to see Lin Chu take an entire box, no one raised any objections.

They did one more sweep. Lin Chu picked up a good amount of “trash,” while Zheng Ziyu and Yu Hongfei came up empty-handed.

That was simply because the remaining stuff was useless to them.

Plus, their shelters had limited space—they couldn’t afford to bring back unnecessary items. So they followed a principle of minimalism and only took what was needed.

That made it hard for them to find any treasure in the leftovers.

They were quite curious as to why Lin Chu was still able to find so many things.

But everyone had their own secrets. Since Lin Chu didn’t say anything, they didn’t pry.

The three of them spent about three hours in the courier station.

It was already past ten at night. Their next destination was the pharmaceutical warehouse.

But before heading there, to avoid extra back-and-forth, they planned to stop by Yu Hongfei’s shelter to drop off the supplies he had just received.

Yu Hongfei’s shelter was located in the storage room on the third floor of the same building where he and Lin Chu had previously hidden.

According to him, he chose that location to stay away from conflict.

Who knew that lunatic Ma Yan would still drag him into it?

The journey was quiet. Only two wandering zombies stumbled into their path, and they dealt with them swiftly and cleanly.

After successfully helping Yu Hongfei deliver the supplies back to his shelter, the three of them set out for the pharmaceutical warehouse.

No zombies appeared on the way, and Yu Hongfei couldn’t help but ask:

“How did you end up getting into trouble with Ma Yan at the pharmaceutical warehouse?”

Among the three of them, this wasn’t really a secret. Ma Yan’s group had made a huge scene seeking revenge on Lin Chu—it had long become public knowledge.

Only the details and backstory hadn’t been shared.

When Lin Chu heard the question, she just chuckled and shook her head.

“Ma Yan and his crew were just too flashy.”

She told them how Ma Yan had gone into the control room in the underground parking garage, restored power to the whole building, and then had the audacity to ride the elevator up and down like nothing could touch him.

Yu Hongfei had heard plenty of gossip from Ma Yan’s gang. Now, hearing Lin Chu’s version, he could piece together the full story.

“So… you took advantage of the timing, avoided them, and snuck into the control room to cut the power while they were in the elevator?”

“And then they got stuck in the elevator mid-air?”

Lin Chu nodded.

At that, Yu Hongfei couldn’t help but give her a big thumbs-up.

How was this woman a forensic pathologist? If someone told him she was a female SWAT officer trained at the police academy, he’d believe it.

Courageous and meticulous, quick-thinking, and physically capable.

He really couldn’t understand how someone as talented as her ended up getting thrown into an apocalyptic world.
