With only two days left in the zombie world, Lin Chu took out the body modification pill from her storage space.
The pill was black and red, and still warm to the touch.
She popped the pill into her mouth. Before she could even drink water, it had already dissolved on her tongue.
A warm sensation spread from her mouth to her stomach, then flowed throughout her entire body.
Lin Chu felt as if every part of her body was loosening and relaxing.
Since she had already read the system’s instructions, she obediently lay down on the bed.
After the soothing sensation passed, a wave of intense pain followed.
It felt like something was pounding on her bones and meridians.
Gritting her teeth, Lin Chu endured wave after wave of pain until her strength ran out and she lost consciousness.
By the time she woke up, it was already noon the next day.
The body modification was complete, and the period of weakness had arrived as expected.
Lin Chu felt her limbs go limp. She had no energy at all—not even enough to sit up.
Just then, her stomach let out a loud growl.
Too weak to get up and eat, she moved her fingers slightly and retrieved a nutrient solution from her storage space.
As soon as she held it, her hand went limp, and she almost dropped the bottle.
After some fumbling, the bottle slipped onto the bed.
Her body was so weak and sore she couldn’t move at all. Seeing the bottle just out of reach, she lay still for a few minutes until her strength returned a bit. Then she took out another bottle of nutrient solution.
This time, she managed to hold on.
Though her right hand trembled slightly, she still succeeded in opening the bottle and bringing it to her mouth.
The liquid slid down her throat, and soon Lin Chu no longer felt hungry.
Having solved the problem of hunger but still unable to move, she quickly fell asleep again.
When she woke up next, it was already evening.
Her body had recovered somewhat, and she was able to prop herself up on the bed and slowly sit up.
But she was still weak—so much so that even walking with support was difficult.
After lying in bed for a day and a half, Lin Chu felt like she was about to get bedsores if she didn’t move around.
As she was feeling frustrated, she suddenly remembered the robot she had just assembled two days ago—Xiao Er.
Soon, she summoned Xiao Er from her storage space.
“Hello, Master. Do you have any commands?”
Xiao Er’s speech was already much smoother than when it had just been activated.
“Help me walk a few laps.”
“Yes, Master.”
Xiao Er supported Lin Chu by the arm. The robot’s slender bones dug into her skin a bit—not exactly painful, but definitely uncomfortable.
Fortunately, Lin Chu wasn’t bothered by Xiao Er’s eerie appearance.
As a forensic pathologist, she had long become numb to such things.
Despite its delicate frame, Xiao Er’s bones were surprisingly strong.
With Xiao Er’s support, Lin Chu walked from the window to the door, then back again.
After pacing like that ten or so times, she felt much of her strength return, and she stored Xiao Er back into her space.
Night fell. Lin Chu sat by the bed, quietly feeling the energy returning to her body.
By 11 a.m. the next day, she had fully recovered and could lift her iron bed frame above her head with ease.
She tested every heavy object in the room and discovered that this round of body modification had improved her physical capabilities by roughly 100%.
Her strength was more than twice what it had been.
She even pulled out the vending machine from her space to test it—and she could lift that too.
Now, if she ran into someone like Ma Yan again, she could go head-to-head with him and still have a fighting chance.
With joy bubbling in her heart, Lin Chu awaited the end-of-world settlement for the zombie world.
[Congratulations, Host, for completing the main mission of the zombie world and surviving for 30 days.]
[Reward settlement is now beginning.]
[Congratulations, Host, for earning 50 points.]
[Host level has been updated. Please open the system panel to check.]
As soon as the clock struck noon, Lin Chu’s mind exploded with a burst of notification sounds, like fireworks going off in her head.
Patiently, she read through each one and finally opened her system panel.
[Name]: Lin Chu
[Gender]: Female
[Age]: 26
[Points]: 550
[Innate Skill]: Turn Trash into Treasure (Level 2)
[Normal Skills]: None
[Shelter Level]: 1 (Upgradeable)
[Current World Security Door]: Not Deployed
[Countdown to Next Mission World Deployment]: 23:59:59
The daily mission cap was 500 points, plus 50 points from the main mission. She hadn’t spent any of it—only the initial 5 points the system gave her at the start.
Now, she had saved up 550 points. According to Yu Hongfei, this was the highest among all newcomers.
After completing a world mission, the system granted a one-day rest period—she had already heard this from Yu Hongfei.
So when she saw the countdown, she wasn’t surprised. She quickly turned her attention to the words “Upgradeable.”
The shelter could now be upgraded. Lin Chu immediately clicked open the upgrade panel.
[Upgrade Requirements]:
[Host meets all upgrade conditions. Would you like to upgrade the shelter to Level 2?]
Fifty points was no longer a big deal to Lin Chu.
Without hesitation, she chose “Yes.”
In the next second, she felt a gentle mist envelop her.
Soft white-glowing text floated before her eyes.
[Upgrade Countdown: 10 seconds]
As the countdown reached zero, the mist gradually dissipated, and Lin Chu found herself standing in the same spot.
Her little bed was still to one side, the row of shelves still in place.
At a glance, nothing seemed to have changed—same size, same cramped layout.
But soon, Lin Chu noticed something new: behind the shelf near the door, a liver-colored door had appeared.
She placed her hand on the shelf and stored it away, then grasped the doorknob.
Just as she was about to twist it open, a prompt appeared in her mind.
[Please select a door style.]
Her vision blurred slightly, and several different door styles appeared before her eyes.
There were dark red, ornate Chinese-style doors; pure white, carved French-style ones; minimalist black ones; and light-colored raw wood doors with rough grain…
There were about a dozen options.
Lin Chu nearly got overwhelmed by the choices.
But she never liked overly decorative styles, and the black ones felt too gloomy. In the end, she chose the simplest light natural wood door.
The moment she made her selection, the liver-colored door transformed into the natural wood door she had chosen.
It was solid wood, made of real natural timber. When she ran her hand over it, she could feel the uneven grain.
The texture was excellent.
After a moment of appreciation, Lin Chu turned the doorknob and walked into the new space.
Inside was a completely independent room. On the wall facing the same direction as the window in the outer room, there was a small window here as well.
Sunlight streamed in through the window, brightening the space and giving it a small but cozy atmosphere.
