The End of the World Scavenger: I Win by Turning Waste into Treasure
The End of the World Scavenger: I Win by Turning Waste into Treasure Chapter 45: Building the Front Yard

There were no other changes.

This time, the shelter upgrade added only one room.

However, it only cost 50 points, and Lin Chu felt it was a great deal.

The system included a floor plan of the shelter. The new room was the same size as the shelter’s original area—3 meters long and 2 meters wide, a total of 6 square meters.

For other rookie taskers who hadn’t expanded their shelter yet, this essentially doubled their usable space.

After wandering around both inside and outside the shelter for a bit, Lin Chu decided to use the inner room as a bedroom, while the outer one would serve as a living room—or rather, a multipurpose room and storage area.

With that in mind, Lin Chu put away the bed and the various supply boxes under it into her space, and moved them into the new bedroom.

She placed the bed against the wall.

Since the bed was exactly 2 meters long, Lin Chu positioned it along the 2-meter wall—right under the window. This way, she’d wake up to bright light every morning.

Once that was done, the bedroom now had a 2m-by-2m open space.

With room to spare, she took out the office desk and the comfortable gaming chair she’d salvaged from the office building and placed them inside.

The small bedroom was now half full.

Lin Chu had no intention of putting more furniture in.

The room wasn’t big to begin with, and more items would make it feel cramped. She’d always preferred spaciousness.

After tidying up the bedroom, Lin Chu moved to the outer room.

The once-cramped space now felt a bit empty after removing the bed and the shelves.

But Lin Chu wouldn’t allow it to stay empty.

She placed a 2-meter-long shelf along the wall where the bed used to be.

Some boxes were stacked neatly against the wall.

She didn’t plan to completely fill the activity room—she needed space for her daily physical training.

The remaining area was just right for exercise; adding more would only get in the way.

After organizing everything, Lin Chu finally turned her attention back to the system panel in her mind.

She noticed a new message had popped up that she’d previously ignored:

[Shelter successfully upgraded to Level 2. Would you like to spend 50 points to build a front yard?]

Front yard?

Could it be the vegetable garden Yu Hongfei mentioned?

Lin Chu checked her points balance.

She still had 500 points.

If she spent 50 on the front yard, reserved 150 for activating the anti-theft door in the New World, and deducted 5 for activating peephole vision in the next task world, she’d still have 295 points left.

She had already reviewed all the valuable items in the system shop based on the catalog Yu Hongfei had given her.

None of them particularly appealed to her.

She could only take one body-enhancement pill, and she’d already redeemed all the other worthwhile items from Yu Hongfei.

So, having 300 points left in reserve seemed more than enough.

Lin Chu chose to build the front yard.

A familiar mist wrapped around her once again.

A soft white light appeared above her head.

[Upgrade countdown: 10 seconds]

When the countdown hit zero, the mist dispersed. Lin Chu stepped toward the door and opened the entrance of the shelter.

In front of her was a barren little yard.

The system panel showed it was 1.5 meters wide and 2 meters long.

It wasn’t large. There were only a few weeds on the ground, and a waist-high carbon-colored fence surrounded it.

Directly opposite the main door was a small gate made of the same fence material.

Stepping through the gate, a path made of staggered gray stone slabs—each about the size of a foot—led directly to the main door.

Lin Chu couldn’t help but feel confused.

“System, now that there are two doors, which one do I enter through when I return from outside?”

[Yard gate.]

The system’s answers were as concise as ever.

“Then where are the peephole and the anti-theft door located?”

[Peephole vision is available at the main door. The anti-theft door is a virtual construct—activate it as needed.]

Lin Chu understood.

After circling the yard, she released the skeletal robot Xiao Er from her space.

“Xiao Er, help me pull out the weeds and till the soil in the yard.”

She rummaged through her space and found a mini shovel and a mini rake.

The shovel head was barely the size of a palm.

Probably something the office workers had used to grow potted plants.

But for now, that’s all she had.

“Understood, Master.”

Without a hint of hesitation, Xiao Er took the tools from her and got to work.

His obedience sparked a twinge of guilt in Lin Chu.

She made a silent vow: in the next world, she’d try to get Xiao Er a proper set of farming tools.

For now…

They’d have to make do.

Seeing Xiao Er at work, Lin Chu left the door open for him and went back inside.

There were still 23 hours before she’d be deployed to the next world.

During those 23 hours, the shelter’s doors wouldn’t open, and the peephole vision would return to chaos. It was a sealed-off little space—she couldn’t go anywhere.

Lin Chu planned to spend the day watching shows and indulging in good food.

If she had bad luck and died in the next world, this would be her last day to enjoy life.

After a full day of indulgence, Lin Chu began packing at 11 a.m. on the day of deployment.

She sorted and stashed away all the items she needed to bring in her space.

Then, she recalled Xiao Er—who had already tilled 3 square meters of the yard with that tiny rake—and changed into a lightweight tracksuit, checked her weapons, and calmly waited for the next task world to arrive.

At exactly noon, Lin Chu was enveloped by a ball of light, and her vision began to blur.

When she regained consciousness, she realized the surface beneath her wasn’t solid—she was bobbing up and down on something.

Opening her eyes and seeing the scene before her, she couldn’t help but curse inwardly.

Of course. Just her luck.

What greeted her was a vast expanse of open water.

She was like a piece of driftwood floating in the middle of the sea.

All the surrounding buildings were submerged, with only a few pointed rooftops peeking out, proving they’d once stood there.

As far as the eye could see, there wasn’t a single door in sight.

Looking down, Lin Chu saw that she was lying on a floating wooden board. Upon closer inspection, she realized—it was a broken wooden door.

Splash—

The sound of water breaking echoed nearby. She turned toward the noise and saw several heads emerging from the water not far away.

She instantly understood—they were other taskers, just like her, newly dropped into this world.

Most of them had been placed directly in the water. Only two or three, like her, were lucky enough to land on floating debris.

And so, a brutal contest began.

But what they were fighting for wasn’t even visible in their field of view.

Instead, it was Lin Chu’s wooden door that caught the attention of many.
