Time ticked by, second by second.
If Lin Chu couldn’t catch 20 live fish within an hour, she wouldn’t be able to save those 150 points.
And she was never someone who gave up easily.
The more time-pressured the situation, the more she could calmly evaluate her available resources.
To catch live fish, using a fishing net was the best method.
She didn’t have a net at the moment, so she had to find a substitute.
Like mosquito nets, which some households used during summer.
Because of the flooding, cabinet doors had burst open and clothes floated everywhere.
Lin Chu searched for a while but couldn’t find a mosquito net.
Just as she was about to head out the window to check another house, her gaze was drawn to a small box near the door leading to the terrace.
This shelter residence she chose had a small loft and a terrace.
When she first arrived, she had seen floating plant debris, flower pots, and fruit baskets used for harvesting.
Most likely, the owner of this house had a passion for gardening.
Thinking of this, a spark of hope lit up in Lin Chu, and she swam toward the box.
The box was an outdoor storage chest, typically used for storing gardening tools.
The small apartment Lin Chu had rented in the original world also had a tiny terrace, and she had once bought a similar box.
Opening the lid, some of the lighter contents floated out.
Lin Chu quickly reached out and grabbed a white bag.
The bag was light, slightly translucent, and had green threads faintly visible inside.
Joy flickered across her brows.
She untied the bag and, just as she suspected, it contained bird netting!
During the harvest season, planting enthusiasts always kept bird netting at home.
Otherwise, all their hard work would end up feeding the birds.
Lin Chu had used this kind of netting before, so when she saw the outdoor storage box, she didn’t hesitate.
The mesh of the bird netting was small—each opening was only about 0.5 cm in diameter.
Too small for birds to get through, let alone the fish here.
There were two nets in the bag, each about 5 meters by 5 meters in size.
Lin Chu took one out and stored the other in her space.
To trap fish, she’d need bait to lure them into the net.
Fortunately, her storage space had plenty of food.
She recalled how people fed fish with bread in parks back in the original world, so she pulled out a piece of bread, tore it into small chunks, and scattered them on the net.
Next, she tied ropes to all four corners of the net.
Since movement in water wasn’t as smooth as on land, Lin Chu even went back to her shelter’s courtyard to complete the transformation from bird net to fish net.
With her improvised fishing net ready, Lin Chu returned to the water.
She fixed the four corners of the net to two walls inside the house, then held the ropes and backed away.
Maybe it was the bread doing its job—soon, a few black fish lazily swam toward the net.
One black fish found the bread and began happily munching.
Lin Chu didn’t pull the net right away.
She waited patiently until five fish swam into the catchable area.
Then, with a sharp tug, she pulled the ropes.
The open net contracted inward from all four corners, trapping the five fish.
Seeing two fish about to escape through the shrinking gap, Lin Chu quickly opened the mission panel and chose to submit the task.
In an instant, the net was empty.
The five fish had been taken by the system.
It worked.
Lin Chu looked at the mission progress—+5—and smiled in satisfaction.
She hadn’t been sure whether fish caught in the net could be directly submitted.
But she reasoned that the net was her medium of interaction with the fish—and thus the system’s medium too.
So she gave it a try.
And it worked.
That made the mission feel a lot more doable.
She glanced at the mission timer.
Twenty-eight minutes had passed.
Only 32 minutes remained.
She had submitted 5 fish, needing 15 more.
Nearly half the time was already gone.
Tight schedule, heavy task.
Lin Chu didn’t dare delay. She swam out the window, found another empty house with open windows, fixed the net between two walls, and began her second hunt.
She didn’t repeat the trick in the same place because the local fish had just witnessed five of their kind vanish.
They probably wouldn’t fall for it again so soon.
Time to move to a new spot.
The fish near this second house hadn’t been disturbed by her yet. At the sight of food, they eagerly swam into the net.
This round was a success—she caught eight fish in one go.
If the first fish hadn’t already eaten its fill and started to swim away, she might’ve waited for more.
She submitted them right there in the net, then moved on to a third empty house.
She repeated the process until all 20 fish were submitted, with only 2 minutes to spare.
She didn’t manage to activate the extra expansion reward this time.
But Lin Chu was content.
She had saved 150 points. Once this world ended, she could upgrade her shelter again.
As soon as she returned to the shelter, a system notification popped into her mind:
Ding—Congratulations, Host, on completing the bonus mission. Reward has been distributed.
The security door in the current world has been activated. The shelter can now ignore standard placement doors. The security door cannot be broken or unlocked by any external force.
Lin Chu finally let out a breath of relief.
She had been worried that the door wouldn’t withstand the flood. After all her opening and closing, it could have fallen apart.
Now that the security door was activated, she could finally relax.
Once the tension faded, she noticed the murky yellow water dripping from her body.
She removed her oxygen mask and headed straight for the bathroom.
After a hot shower to wash away the grime and cleaning the muddy floor inside the shelter, she changed into a clean hospital gown and lay comfortably on the bed.
Since entering the Flooded World, this was the first moment she had to check her new mission panel.
[Survival Mission]
Please survive for 30 days in the flooded apocalypse world. Failure will result in immediate termination.
Mission Difficulty: B+ Level
Special Difficulty Note: Due to contamination of water sources in this mission world, the shelter’s water supply will be assimilated in 7 days. Host must stock up on clean water. After 7 days, the shelter will cease water purification.
Mission Reward: 80 points
The survival mission left Lin Chu momentarily stunned.
A B+ level world?
Yu Hongfei had told her that the lowest world level was C, increasing gradually from there.
Usually, the first world was C-level, the second B-level, the third likely B again, and the fourth would rise to A-level.
How had she ended up in a B+ level world already?
