The End of the World Scavenger: I Win by Turning Waste into Treasure
The End of the World Scavenger: I Win by Turning Waste into Treasure Chapter 5: Departing to Stock Up

As the last rays of the setting sun faded, the dark night quickly enveloped the land.

The zombies, still somewhat restless during the day, now twisted their necks as their steps grew slower.

A new crescent moon hung faintly in the western sky, its cold white light casting a dim glow on the zombies’ grayish skin, adding to the eerie chill.

It was at this time that Lin Chu quietly slipped out of the shelter, crouching down as she moved. She wore a black tracksuit and carried a black backpack on her chest, blending seamlessly into the darkness.

Before leaving, she had already peered through the peephole. There was no one hiding in the bathroom, the door was open, and there was no congregation of zombies outside.

The man she had knocked unconscious earlier was nowhere to be found. It was unclear whether he had run away or turned into a zombie.

Lin Chu held a bone club and quietly stepped out of the bathroom door.

The zombies outside were not as numerous as she had expected, and there were fresh traces of battle on the ground.

However, based on the footprints, there seemed to be only one person.

A face flashed through Lin Chu’s mind.

Shaking off the thoughts, Lin Chu moved forward, swinging the bone club.

Her purpose for going outside this time was to search for supplies. After all, her space backpack had limited capacity, and if she kept accumulating zombie bodies in it, her backpack would fill up quickly.

So, after quietly taking down a zombie, Lin Chu silently removed its body from her backpack and left it behind.

If the bodies were still there when she returned, she would come back to deal with them. If they were gone, she would consider it an act of kindness.

As Lin Chu navigated through the zombies, the night indeed made their movements slower. She quickly approached the building’s entrance.

A faint “rustling” sound came from behind her.

Lin Chu immediately raised her club and turned around, only to see a girl with twin ponytails, holding a shovel in one hand and a Swiss army knife in the other. As she swung the shovel, the army knife plunged into the zombie’s neck.

Seeing the zombie about to fall, the girl swiftly moved behind it, steadied it, and silently took down another zombie.

Perhaps sensing Lin Chu’s gaze, the girl turned to look at her.

Their eyes met, and the twin-tailed girl froze for a moment before giving a slight nod towards Lin Chu.

Lin Chu nodded back, and then, in perfect synchrony, the two of them averted their gazes and focused on the zombies in front of them.

With one swing, Lin Chu knocked down a zombie near the east gate of the building. Behind it, a large, square metallic object was vaguely visible in the darkness.

Lin Chu’s eyes brightened slightly. She reached out, stepping cautiously on rough shards of glass underfoot. The object felt cold to the touch, and by the light of the moon, she could faintly make out its shape.

It was a vending machine!

The vending machine’s glass door had shattered.

Lin Chu’s mind raced as the vending machine in front of her disappeared.

Although she wasn’t sure whether there were any supplies left inside after the glass shattered, the thought of her unique skill stirred her interest.

The square vending machine would occupy about one-tenth of her space backpack’s capacity, and there was still plenty of room left for more supplies.

After calculating quickly in her mind, Lin Chu tightened her grip on the bone club and cautiously left the office building, maintaining alertness.

The girl with twin ponytails, who had just killed a zombie, seemed to sense something. She glanced in Lin Chu’s direction, her eyes flickering slightly.

When Lin Chu was dropped into this mission world earlier during the day, she had observed the layout of the park.

The shelter she had chosen was located in the No. 6 office building, which was near the western entrance of the park. If she exited through the western door, it would only lead to other office buildings on the same side or the outer perimeter of the park.

Therefore, Lin Chu chose to exit through the east gate of the office building. This way, she could reach the center of the park, which would make it easier to explore more office buildings.

Another important reason was that the western entrance of the office building was directly adjacent to the bathroom, indicating that the western entrance was more like a backdoor. Important things like building and park maps, which were essential for Lin Chu, would typically be located at the main entrance of the office building, according to architectural norms.

As expected, when Lin Chu stepped out of the east door of the office building, she saw a sign standing about five or six meters away on the roadside.

Between her and the sign, there were two zombies that had already turned their heads toward Lin Chu.

As Lin Chu rushed forward, her club swung down, and one zombie collapsed.

She quickly leaned backward to dodge the other zombie’s claws and turned to strike again.

Both zombies fell at her feet.

They each had a blue-bordered ID badge hanging on their chests. Lin Chu had already collected more than ten such ID badges in her space.

From the badges, Lin Chu learned that the technology park she was in was a pharmaceutical tech industry park, gathering pharmaceutical companies.

Since it was a pharmaceutical park, it meant that there might be medical supplies and tools that Lin Chu desperately needed in these office buildings!

When the zombie outbreak occurred, it seemed to have been on a workday, and many zombies still had their company ID badges on.

Based on Lin Chu’s past experience, different job levels might have different permissions on their badges. To be safe, she collected all the badges from the zombies she killed into her space backpack.

The two badges in front of her were no exception.

After observing carefully without alerting other zombies, Lin Chu quickly approached the sign by the roadside.

Just as she had expected, the sign contained a simple map of the park and its surroundings.

The pharmaceutical tech park consisted of eight office buildings. The No. 6 office building where Lin Chu was located was on the western side of the park. The map showed that the No. 8 building was designated as the warehouse for the pharmaceutical companies, where there might be the tools Lin Chu needed.

The park’s 24-hour convenience store was located in the No. 3 building.

Building Arrangement:

1 2 3 4
5 6 7 8

Buildings 1-4 were on the eastern side of the park, while buildings 5-8 were on the western side.

Building No. 3 was diagonally opposite Building No. 6, and it only took crossing a road to get there.

Building No. 8 was separated from Building No. 6 by Building No. 7.

There were two routes to reach Building No. 8: one was to exit from the west gate of Building No. 6, walk all the way to the end, pass by Building No. 7, and reach the destination.

The other was to start from the east gate of Building No. 6, which was located in the middle of the main road, heading south, and passing both Building No. 3 and No. 7, eventually reaching Building No. 8.

The first route was where Lin Chu was dropped earlier in the morning. The advantage was that it was more secluded, meaning fewer zombies and more safety.

Although the second route was more dangerous, it led to the only 24-hour convenience store in the park.

Lin Chu hesitated for only a moment before choosing the second route.

Although she had just found a vending machine, she hadn’t seen what supplies were left inside, and she didn’t want to take risks. With the opportunity to stock up on supplies, she wouldn’t miss it. At this point, no one would complain about having too many supplies.

The night was still and quiet as water. Lin Chu glanced at the system time: it was 2:30 a.m., the time when most people were asleep.

As she walked along the main road south, she noticed that after passing Building No. 6, the zombies on the main road weren’t as numerous as she had expected.

On the contrary, there were very few zombies on the main road, as if someone had just cleaned them out.
