Cleaning the house was the first step for Lin Chu to appear here openly and aboveboard.
Lin Chu had thought it through. Since the survivors were going to move in, she wanted to make it clear to everyone that she had already claimed this house.
She certainly didn’t want anyone else moving in and preventing her from being able to enter the shelter normally.
To ensure safety, Lin Chu had also turned the house’s anti-theft door lock into something more secure using her “turning waste into treasure” ability.
The reason she only changed the lock, not the door, was twofold. First, although the door had been soaked by the flood for a long time, it still worked fine after some tidying up.
Second, she wasn’t sure what kind of door the system would generate for her.
If the system just cleaned up the war-damaged door and turned it into a cleaner version, it wouldn’t be a big deal.
But she was worried it might generate a door that exceeded the technology of this world.
Such a door would draw too much attention and might even attract the authorities’ attention, which was not something she wanted.
As for the lock, even if it was modified in an extraordinary way, it wouldn’t stand out too much, while still ensuring the house’s security.
Once the white light passed, Lin Chu looked at the lock again and saw that the once rusty lock had been completely renewed.
The lock itself was a high-quality lock, but after being submerged in the flood for a long time, it had accumulated a lot of rust.
Now, the entire lock had a gleaming metallic gray-black color, like it was made from high-end materials.
To unlock it, there was no need for a key. Instead, there was a very inconspicuous fingerprint device on the lock.
As long as Lin Chu pressed it lightly, the lock would open.
Inside the door, there were also multiple anti-theft mechanisms.
[Item: Black Gold Fingerprint Lock]
Rarity: D
Owner Binding: Lin Chu
Item Description: Made from ordinary black gold forging, it cannot be picked in a normal human world. It is bound to the owner, and the owner can use any fingerprint to unlock it.
The item created by the “turning waste into treasure” process was indeed extraordinary.
It had automatically bound itself to Lin Chu as the owner, and her fingerprint had been automatically recorded.
The fact that it couldn’t be picked was something Lin Chu was very satisfied with.
In the chaotic society of the flooded world, robberies would be common.
The lock being pick-proof greatly increased the security of the house.
However…
It wasn’t enough.
There were still many windows in this house.
The water level had now receded to just below the ceiling of the fifth floor, and when the survivors moved, they would likely use boats.
For them, the current sixth floor was just like the first floor on a normal day.
As long as they climbed onto the windowsill from the boat, they could easily climb in through the window.
Without proper modifications, the windows made Lin Chu feel insecure.
She didn’t want to wake up one day to find someone else had taken over the house.
Currently, one of the windows couldn’t even be closed completely.
Lin Chu also used “turning waste into treasure” on it and upgraded it into a window that could be locked from the inside and couldn’t be picked.
Other windows, because they had been submerged for a long time, had varying degrees of damage.
Lin Chu chose one of them and used “turning waste into treasure” again.
The result was just like the previous window.
It seemed that anything created through “turning waste into treasure” would always have the “cannot be picked” feature.
This made Lin Chu very satisfied.
After using up the three chances of “turning waste into treasure” for the day, there were still six windows left to be modified.
Aside from waiting, Lin Chu had no better plan.
That night, heavy rain started again.
This storm lasted another day and night.
Although the water level was rising, Lin Chu knew that even if it rose to its peak, it would only submerge her ankles.
Unlike the previous storms, she didn’t just hide in the shelter. Instead, she continued to clean the house with Xiao Er.
She threw away useless items that had been soaked by the flood, and any useful items she kept in her space.
The house had tile flooring, which, although swollen from the water, didn’t affect its functionality much.
Besides, Lin Chu was only cleaning the house for appearances, to make it seem like she was living there.
In reality, she still stayed in her shelter, only coming out to deal with things when necessary. These small issues wouldn’t affect her.
She used her three opportunities for “turning waste into treasure” on the house’s windows that day.
Of the remaining six windows, three were in the attic.
She decided to first work on the windows on the lower floors.
The three attic windows, being higher up, were left for last.
On the 11th day, Lin Chu got up early, and while the survivors on the small hillside were still asleep, she used “turning waste into treasure” to modify the three attic windows.
Now, all the windows in the house, when closed, couldn’t be picked.
Lin Chu checked the house again, ensuring nothing was missed, and then turned around, ready to return to the shelter and wait for the survivors to arrive.
However, as soon as she turned around, she saw a familiar small boat, carrying two people, slowly heading toward the residential building.
