After saying goodbye to Wang Rui, Lin Chu checked the house for any potential safety hazards before taking Xiao Er back to the shelter.
It wasn’t until she sat on the soft mat in the activity room that she opened the prompt that had popped up in her mind earlier.
The prompt appeared after she had finished reading the materials from Base 1.
[Congratulations, Host, for activating the hidden mission for the Flooded World. Please check [Mission Center] for details.]
She had actually activated a hidden mission!
[Hidden Mission (Optional): Before leaving the Flooded World, please submit 1 sample of a Fishscale Person’s blood and 1 complete Fishscale Person’s scale.]
Mission Difficulty: B-Class
Mission Deadline: 18 Days, 5 Hours
Mission Reward: 150 Points
Failure Penalty: None
!!
150 points.
To put this into perspective, when Lin Chu survived until the end of the last world, she was only awarded 50 points.
In the Flooded World, the difficulty had increased slightly, and the reward for surviving was only 80 points.
Now, just from this hidden mission, she could earn 150 points.
And it was optional, with no penalty for failure.
This mission was incredibly friendly.
“System, what are the activation conditions for the hidden mission?”
[When the Host touches the core secret of the current world, the related hidden mission will activate.]
[If the Host has a hidden mission activation card, the mission can also be activated.]
This time, the system provided a more detailed explanation.
Lin Chu immediately understood.
She was in the first category.
Because of the Fishscale event, she had come into contact with the core secret of the world, triggering the hidden mission activation condition.
“The core secret of the current world… can I interpret that as the cause of the world-ending catastrophe or the conditions to end the apocalypse?”
This time, the system was not so helpful.
Just four brief words.
Lin Chu shrugged and didn’t press the issue further.
This was her second mission world.
As a newcomer who could only survive in B-Class worlds, she knew that knowing too much wouldn’t be particularly useful.
She believed that as she moved into higher-level worlds, many truths would naturally unfold before her.
What she needed to focus on now was how to obtain blood and scale samples from the Fishscale People.
Base 1 would be sending someone soon.
They were coming for the Fishscale People issue as well.
Lin Chu planned to assess the situation once they arrived.
After quickly planning this in her mind, she pulled out a giant beef burger and a glass of milk from her storage space for dinner.
The past two days, Lin Chu hadn’t gone underwater to search for supplies.
Xiao Er didn’t have a diving suit to wash, and household chores had become much easier. The 3-square-meter space didn’t require its constant energy consumption.
At the moment, Xiao Er stood by the door, looking like a security guard, watching Lin Chu eat while occasionally glancing at the little black fish in the bath.
It seemed a bit bored.
Boredom made it seem a little lonely.
How could she make the robot less lonely?
Lin Chu thought for a moment before assigning it a task.
“Xiao Er, come here.”
Upon hearing Lin Chu call it, Xiao Er immediately raised its slightly drooping skull.
If it had eyes, they would probably have lit up.
Seeing Xiao Er quickly approach, Lin Chu pulled out a few things from her space.
A medium-sized cardboard box, an electric blanket, and a wool blanket.
The electric blanket was something she had found in a residential building a few days ago, though it was broken.
Lin Chu placed her hand on it, and within a few seconds, the electric blanket was as good as new.
She handed these items to Xiao Er.
“Master, what should I do with these?”
Lin Chu smiled and took out 5 fertilized eggs that she had exchanged at the base that morning.
“Incubate chicks.”
She had exchanged 20 fertilized eggs in total.
However, her yard was simply too small.
Trying to raise 20 chickens in this 3-square-meter space was a bit too optimistic.
So she planned to hatch 5 first.
Of course, incubation had a success rate.
She wasn’t sure how many of the 5 eggs would successfully hatch.
Incubating eggs required simulating the body temperature of a hen.
By placing the eggs in a constant-temperature environment, she could successfully hatch the chicks.
Lin Chu instructed Xiao Er to plug in the electric blanket, lay it in the bottom of the cardboard box, and then place the wool blanket on top.
Finally, she carefully placed the 5 eggs on the wool blanket and instructed Xiao Er to turn the eggs every 4 hours.
This would help improve the hatching rate.
Xiao Er was very happy to receive tasks from Lin Chu.
Upon receiving this new task, it nodded vigorously.
Lin Chu watched the joints of its neck, worried that if it wasn’t careful, it might snap its own neck.
Once the egg incubation task was assigned, Lin Chu finally had some free time.
Taking advantage of the heavy rain outside, she caught up on the physical training she had missed over the past few days.
She could clearly feel that after this period of training, her control over her physical strength had become much more precise.
After the rain stopped, not long after, Wang Rui knocked on Lin Chu’s door again.
Knowing it was Wang Rui, Lin Chu skillfully changed clothes, let Xiao Er out, and then opened the door for him.
“Dr. Lin, someone at the base has been bitten by the big black fish again. Dr. Liu wants to ask you to come over.”
The Fishscale People were related to Lin Chu’s hidden mission, and hearing that, she readily agreed.
This time, the one bitten was an older man.
It was said that the heavy rain had partially collapsed the tent where he lived, washing away many of his daily supplies and food.
He chased after the items, and when he reached the water’s edge, he was bitten by the big black fish that had been lurking there.
Luckily, other survivors were helping him collect things, and when they saw the big black fish attacking, they pulled him back. Otherwise, he probably wouldn’t have survived.
It was still the same building as before, and the sickroom was next to the one from last time.
When Lin Chu entered, Mayor Li and Nurse Bai were already there.
Next to the bed stood a black-haired man with a slightly hunched back.
He was very thin, wearing a pair of black-rimmed glasses, with blue sterile gloves on both hands, holding a hemostat, and was treating the wound of the man on the bed.
Even when Lin Chu entered, he didn’t look up.
“This is Dr. Liu,” Wang Rui softly introduced to Lin Chu.
Mayor Li had already met Lin Chu, and when he saw her enter, he turned around and nodded at her as a greeting.
Nurse Bai stood next to Dr. Liu, handing him tools and medicine, but didn’t raise her head either.
It wasn’t until Dr. Liu finished stitching up the wound that he finally looked up, lowered his head, and peered over his glasses to look at Lin Chu.
“So Dr. Lin is so young.”
After saying that, Dr. Liu smiled, and the wrinkles on his face deepened with his expression.
“Being young is good.”
Lin Chu wore a polite smile and nodded at him.
“Dr. Liu.”
Dr. Liu didn’t mind that she didn’t respond to his comment. He waved her over. “Come here, take a look at his wound.”
