The four of them were halfway to their destination when they encountered the hurriedly arriving Wang Rui.
“Captain Wang, did you manage to rescue anyone?”
Old Zhang, remembering the reason Lin Chu had told him earlier, quickly asked the question.
At the mention of this, a hint of frustration flashed across Wang Rui’s face.
“Don’t mention it. It was just a child who dropped a toy into the water, and somehow, the rumor turned into someone falling into the water.”
He waved his hand, as if trying to shake off the annoyance of being mocked, and changed the subject, asking:
“Who are you carrying?”
At the mention of this, Old Zhang became somewhat excited. He quickly recounted, embellishing the story, about what Lin Chu had told him.
In conclusion, he added:
“These two idiots, instead of harming Doctor Lin, ended up in trouble themselves.”
“Now they’re unconscious, and we’re just about to send them to the infirmary.”
Hearing this dramatic story, Wang Rui couldn’t help but glance at Lin Chu.
Lin Chu, noticing the look, calmly met his gaze.
Wang Rui understood that the situation was probably more complicated than Old Zhang made it sound.
But these two brothers had only themselves to blame.
They had a good life and still chose to secretly hoard supplies, and at such a crucial moment, they decided to provoke Doctor Lin.
If it had been in the past, they wouldn’t have known that Jiang Da and Jiang Er had secretly hoarded supplies. Wang Rui would have had to protect the base’s people and have a serious discussion with Lin Chu.
But now…
These troublemakers getting a lesson was well-deserved.
When the truth about their hoarding of supplies comes to light, the people in the base will probably curse them for being deserving of it.
They might even want to give them a good beating to feel better.
With that, the five of them, along with the two brothers, made their way back to the office building at the small hillside base.
As soon as they stepped inside, they encountered Doctor Liu, who was heading out.
Seeing the group, Doctor Liu stopped in his tracks and looked at the people being carried.
“What are you doing? Who’s injured?”
As he spoke, he turned around to lead them to the infirmary.
“It’s Jiang Da and Jiang Er.”
Lin Chu spoke up first.
Just as Doctor Liu was about to enter, he stopped and turned to look at the two men being carried.
“Are they still alive?”
Seeing Lin Chu nod, he couldn’t help but ask:
“What’s going on?”
Old Zhang immediately became animated and once again embellished the story of how the two brothers had attacked Lin Chu.
“So, they were just knocked out by the organic fertilizer smell?”
When Old Zhang heard Doctor Liu’s question, he glanced at Lin Chu, then nodded.
“Yes, that’s how it happened.”
Doctor Liu turned his body completely.
“I just remembered, the infirmary’s rooms are already full.”
“Jiang Da and Jiang Er were delivering supplies today, so they must be temporarily staying at Assistant Wu’s place. Let’s take them there first.”
Old Zhang was a bit stunned when he heard Doctor Liu’s words.
But Lin Chu immediately understood.
Doctor Liu was about to make his move.
By injuring these two brothers, Lin Chu had inadvertently given him a reason to go to Assistant Wu’s house.
Wang Rui, who was standing beside them, also understood. Without waiting for Doctor Liu to give further instructions, he took the lead and walked ahead, while turning back to give instructions:
“You two take Jiang Da and Jiang Er back to Assistant Wu’s house. I’ll go report to Mayor Li.”
“After all, Assistant Wu is his trusted assistant. If his relatives are injured, Mayor Li will surely want to visit.”
Old Zhang and the two men helping to carry the brothers were left feeling confused by Wang Rui’s words.
Jiang Da and Jiang Er had just fainted, and sending them home to rest would be enough. Why was it necessary to make such a big deal and involve Mayor Li?
Although they had questions, they kept it simple, deciding to think no more about it for now.
They would just follow the higher-ups’ instructions.
The three men carried Jiang Da and Jiang Er, following Doctor Liu, as they made their way to Assistant Wu’s residence.
Living conditions in the base were tight, and even Mayor Li only had a small apartment, so Assistant Wu didn’t have any special treatment.
His residence was in the villa area, next to Mayor Li’s villa.
It was originally the master bedroom of the second floor of the villa.
It had a walk-in closet and a private bathroom.
Such accommodations were considered on par with Mayor Li’s.
Jiang Da and Jiang Er had only arrived about a week after they had settled in.
By then, all the housing in the villa area had already been allocated, and the two of them could only be arranged in the tent area.
The two brothers had been upset about this at first.
But somehow, Assistant Wu managed to soothe them, and they settled down.
This information had been relayed to Lin Chu by the round-faced nurse, who had just finished her shift and was about to help with the work.
“Now they’re settled in the residential area with decent accommodations, and they’ve been given important tasks by the mayor. Why would they still attack Doctor Lin?”
The round-faced nurse’s expression was filled with confusion.
Lin Chu gave a slight smile and replied, “Greed.”
This explanation left the round-faced nurse even more perplexed.
As they continued on their way, they caught the attention of many people.
Earlier, when they were carrying someone into the infirmary, many people had gotten used to it, but now, carrying people to the residential area? That was rare.
Curiosity got the better of many people, and they followed from a distance to see what was going on.
Doctor Liu didn’t say anything to shoo them away, and no one else dared to speak up.
So, the six of them were followed by a long line of onlookers.
Soon, they arrived at Assistant Wu’s door.
“Check their pockets and see where the keys are.”
Following Doctor Liu’s order, Old Zhang dropped to his knees and began searching through the two brothers’ pockets.
Soon, he found a key.
Doctor Liu took it, tried it in the door, but it didn’t work.
“Try again.”
“Could it be they don’t have the keys to Assistant Wu’s house?” The round-faced nurse suggested.
Doctor Liu shook his head.
The security team had been keeping an eye on the two brothers today.
If they hadn’t already seen concrete evidence, he wouldn’t have come up with such a bold plan.
Luckily, Old Zhang quickly found another key from Jiang Da’s pants pocket.
This time, the door opened.
When Doctor Liu opened the door, his face darkened.
Lin Chu, who had been paying close attention to him, immediately noticed the change in his mood.
It seemed Jiang Da and Jiang Er had truly lived up to their reputation.
“Come on, let’s get them inside.”
Doctor Liu raised his voice.
Old Zhang quickly carried one leg, and with the help of two men, they moved the two brothers into the house.
The round-faced nurse followed them in.
However, she stopped after just a few steps when she saw a pile of supplies on the floor.
“Wow, didn’t we finish distributing supplies earlier today? Why are there still so many here?”
“Are we going to distribute more tomorrow?”
