This fetus is in a diagonal position, which is harder to correct than an slanted position. If the fetus is smaller, it’s easier to reposition it. However, this fetus is unusually large, making repositioning more challenging.
Though anxious inside, Lu Man maintained a calm demeanor. She lightly smiled at Lady Xie and said, “Don’t worry, Lady Xie. Your baby is doing well in your womb and is still moving. Relax, cooperate, and soon the child will be born.”
Lady Xie’s eyes widened slightly as she saw a remarkably beautiful woman in peculiar attire standing before her with a gentle smile. Weakly, she asked, “Can I still give birth?”
Her voice was completely hoarse, seemingly emerging from her throat, requiring careful listening to be understood.
Lu Man nodded and gently smiled, “Of course.”
Lady Xie’s consciousness was fading, and she asked again, “Are you here to help my fairy? You’re so beautiful, and your voice is pleasant.”
Lu Man laughed, instantly brightening the room. Her beautiful and reassuring smile left a lasting impression on Lady Xie.
“I am what you believe me to be.” Lu Man said. “Together, let’s strive, and we will ensure the safety of both mother and child.”
It was crucial to bolster the pregnant woman’s will to survive.
“Alright.” Lady Xie said softly, a glimmer of hope in her dry eyes. She whispered, “Please, ensure the safety of my child, don’t mind me, just protect the child.”
Shaking her head, Lu Man replied, “It’s heartbreaking for a child to be without a mother. Could you bear to leave him?”
Lady Xie sniffled and murmured, “I can’t bear it, I can’t…”
Lu Man increased the pressure slightly on her hands and reassured, “You will survive. You need to cooperate with me; it may be painful, but endure it.” With that, she began massaging the large belly, ensuring the right position without harming the fetus.
Lady Xie screamed in agony, her throat completely hoarse, emitting horrifying sounds that seemed inhuman, sending a shiver down Lu Man’s spine.
Repositioning the fetus was a brutal task. The laboring woman was already in excruciating pain, and the process involved applying significant pressure on her abdomen. Hearing Lady Xie’s cries and stifled sobs, Lu Man’s heart clenched, and her legs trembled.
In the past, a cesarean section would have been performed, but now, abdominal incisions were considered witchcraft. Furthermore, there were no pain-relieving medications to ease the mother’s suffering, nor antibiotics to ensure her survival after childbirth.
To alleviate Lady Xie’s pain, Lu Man had to speak a few words to her when she was conscious. Not the demanding shouts of a midwife, but gentle words promising delicious meals and beautiful clothes for her child in the future, ensuring the child would love them.
Tearing her hoarse voice, Lady Xie asked, “Is that really possible?”
“It is!” Lu Man affirmed, “Trust me, I will help you safely deliver your child.”
As time passed, Lady Xie grew too weak to cry out, her eyes half-closed, appearing lifeless, yet the fetal position hadn’t corrected.
Lu Man felt like she was inflicting torture, tormenting a great mother. As Lady Xie fell silent and her expressionless face turned pale, Lu Man was consumed by fear and regret – she shouldn’t have been there. This experience was far more terrifying and heartbreaking than any childbirth she had witnessed in her past life.
In her previous life, surgeries were cruel but distant, shielded from the sight of the mother’s face and body, and the screams were muffled. The scene before her now was raw and real, witnessing a living being on the brink of torment.
Lu Man was unsure if she could save Lady Xie, ensuring a safe delivery. If this woman died under her care, what would become of her? In her past experiences, she had delivered hundreds of children without any fatalities. If Lady Xie didn’t make it, how would Lu Man cope with the aftermath…
The immense psychological pressure made it hard for her to endure but she had to persist. Sweat dripped incessantly, and eventually, she couldn’t tell if it was sweat or tears.
After what felt like an eternity, Lu Man felt the fetus finally start moving. Overcome with joy, she trembled and exclaimed, “Almost there, almost there, hold on.”
A while later, the fetus’s head finally descended.
Raising her voice, Lu Man shouted, “The position is corrected, the birth is imminent. Follow my instructions, exhale, inhale…”
The midwives were on high alert, but Lady Xie showed no response. One midwife hurried to pinch her acupoint until she regained consciousness.
Upon hearing that the position was corrected, Lady Xie struggled to follow Lu Man’s commands. Feeling like she was on the brink of death, she mustered her last bit of strength and shouted, “Save the child!” Her voice was piercing and terrifying, sending chills down the spine. Then, she slumped over, unconscious.
As the words “save the child” faded, joyful exclamations from the midwives followed, “It’s coming out, it’s coming out, the head is out… Oh, it’s a boy, a big chubby one!”
With the crisp sound of a slap on the baby’s bottom, followed by the infant’s robust cry, joy erupted inside and outside the room.
Two midwives quickly tended to Lady Xie, while another midwife and a helper bathed the baby.
The child was chubby, red-faced, and cried loudly. Weighing eight pounds and two ounces, this weight was exceptionally rare in ancient times.
Carrying the baby out of the birthing room, the midwife handed the child to Xie Yu, who beamed with joy. He attempted to enter the room, but was stopped by the midwife, “Master, wait a moment. We need to clean up Lady Xie and move her out of the room. She’s just unconscious.”
On the eve of his deployment, the Heir finally had a child, a boy weighing over eight pounds. The news spread, and the Xie residence buzzed with excitement.
Madam Xie rushed over, tears of joy streaming down her face as she held the child tightly.
Madam Jiang arrived, crying tears of joy, while looking in the child. She congratulated the Xie family, then looked around and asked, “Where is Zhanwei’s wife?”
Outside, Xing also wondered and rushed into the birthing room to find her.
Lu Man stood against the wall, dazed, watching Lady Xie unconscious, surrounded by bustling midwives. Her mind was still foggy, and her body felt weak, legs trembling. She was not just tired, but also frightened and deeply moved.
Every mother is great, but this mother was incredibly touching.
Xing removed the headscarf from Lu Man’s head, wiped her sweat, and said, “Young Madam, go outside to get some fresh air, it doesn’t smell good in here.” Since her clothes were soaked, she didn’t dare remove her work attire.
