Chapter 190: It Feels Good to Have a Father
After receiving the message from the Old Lady, Su Wan, who had been engrossed in studying a medical book on poisonous Gu, closed the book and went to sleep.
The next morning, bright and early, she packed the dowry given to her by the Old Lady into a small bundle, slung it over her shoulder, and took a carriage to the Su residence.
At the entrance of the Su residence, two carriages were parked.
The Old Lady, Su Jihong, and Qinglan emerged one after the other.
The relationship between Su Jihong and the Old Lady was strained, like fire and water.
Out of obligation to filial piety, Su Jihong greeted her with a lukewarm formality, “Mother.”
The Old Lady gave him a cold glance but did not respond.
However, when she saw Su Wan step down from the carriage, her face immediately brightened with a smile. “Wanwan, you’re here.”
“Grandmother,” Su Wan walked over and gently took the Old Lady’s arm. “Have you packed everything?”
“Everything is packed.” The Old Lady looked at Su Wan’s pointed chin and the dark circles under her eyes, feeling a pang of heartache. “You’ve lost weight.”
“I’ve been busy setting up the medical hall,” Su Wan downplayed her struggles. “Let me help you onto the carriage.”
“Hmph, now that you’ve latched onto the Regent as your backer, you don’t even recognize your own father? Don’t know how to greet your elders? But then again, what could one expect from a wretch who had a mother who gave birth to her but didn’t raise her? No point in expecting you to have any manners.”
Qinglan’s voice was dripping with sarcasm and malice. She turned to Su Jihong with a self-satisfied expression. “My lord, it’s a good thing you posted the notice cutting off your father-daughter relationship with her, otherwise, it would’ve been the Su family’s face that was lost.”
Su Wan walked toward Qinglan.
The guards from the Marquis’ residence stepped forward to intervene.
However, the Qi Family Army that Su Wan had brought with her swiftly subdued them.
Before Qinglan could react, Su Wan grabbed her by the collar and delivered a sharp slap across her face. With an unbothered attitude, she said, “You’re right. I wasn’t taught manners growing up. So, if I’ve done something inappropriate, I trust the wife of the Marquis of Dingyuan will be understanding.”
Qinglan let out a scream, clutching her cheek, trembling with rage. She opened her mouth, ready to hurl insults, but when her gaze met Su Wan’s fierce eyes, she was so terrified that she fell silent.
“If you’re not afraid of dying, feel free to provoke me. After all, I’m not afraid of death,” Su Wan bared her teeth, flashing a malicious smile, and with a sudden forceful shove, she pushed Qinglan.
Qinglan let out a startled scream as she tumbled to the ground.
Su Wan followed up with a sweeping kick, and with a loud “thud,” Qinglan’s head hit the ground. A sharp, piercing pain surged through her, and she was on the verge of fainting as her vision darkened.
Furious, Su Jihong raised his left hand, aiming to strike Su Wan across the face.
Su Wan let out a cold laugh and, seemingly out of nowhere, produced a dagger.
Su Jihong saw only a flash of cold light before a sharp pain shot through his arm as the dagger grazed him.
His brows furrowed in pain, his face turning livid. “Wretched girl, I am your father! Do you think I can’t discipline you?”
“I suggest you spend less time arguing with me and more time finding a doctor. Otherwise, you might lose that arm as well,” Su Wan retorted.
She calmly wiped the blood off the dagger with a handkerchief, then tossed the cloth aside and walked over to the Old Lady.
The veins on Su Jihong’s forehead bulged, his face twisted with rage. He wanted to order someone to bind Su Wan, but seeing the Qi Family Army she had brought with her, he swallowed his fury bitterly.
A vicious glint flickered in his eyes, and he began to harbor murderous intent toward Su Wan.
Su Wan, having dared to strike Su Jihong, had no fear of him at all. Even if she couldn’t handle the situation herself, she had her father to back her up!
With that thought, Su Wan’s mood brightened even more.
It felt so good to have a father’s support!
“Grandmother, I just hurt the Marquis. You don’t mind, do you?” Su Wan asked as she settled into the carriage.
She handed a box to the Old Lady. “This is your dowry. I can’t accept it; please keep it safe.”
