{Don’t love too much 3}
She couldn’t understand where this man’s resentment toward the wealthy came from.
It was clear that jealousy between men could be terrifying. Though she and Shen Qi had long gone their separate ways, this man’s actions showed he didn’t see women as people at all.
This led to the most embarrassing moment Qian Xu had experienced that night.
Meanwhile, in a small group chat between Shen Qi and a few of his New York friends, someone had recorded Qian Xu’s awkward encounter, including the foolish man’s self-righteous shouting, and shared the video with the group.
Everyone assumed Shen Qi wouldn’t care.
To their surprise, the moment Shen Qi saw Qian Xu’s evident discomfort, he responded almost immediately: “Who is that guy? I want his personal details and academic info. Get it to me within two hours.”
The group chat buzzed with activity. Some speculated that Shen Qi was trying to “play the hero” and rescue Qian Xu, while others wondered if he still harbored lingering feelings for her. Yet, after sending that message, Shen Qi vanished without a trace.
In the real world, those watching Qian Xu’s reaction remained indifferent. Some were eagerly waiting to see her heart break, while others saw an opportunity, hoping to take advantage of her vulnerable state.
After all, if Shen Qi could have her, why couldn’t they enjoy her for a while too?
But Qian Xu thought to herself, they were in for a disappointment.
She couldn’t empathize with the man who loudly condemned Shen Qi, and what she found even harder to tolerate was how, despite being in a worse situation himself, he shamelessly hurled insults at her simply because of his male privilege.
He even tried to exploit her pain to make a big deal out of it, using her as an example to criticize all the other ordinary girls who, like her, were studying abroad on their own efforts. He suggested that most of them, eager to climb the social ladder, ended up being abandoned—implying this was their inevitable fate.
Qian Xu couldn’t fathom how empty this person’s life must be to say such pompous, judgmental things.
“I don’t know where you’re getting your information from,” Qian Xu began, unafraid to reveal what others were most curious about. She had no reason to protect Shen Qi’s pride anymore, so she spoke plainly. “First of all, when I was dating Shen Qi, his financial situation was nothing like it is today. I covered the rent for his first month in Ohio, where he lived with his children.”
She was calm, slowly explaining the facts of their past without assigning blame. She set down her champagne glass, her beautiful face showing no trace of panic or distress.
“I may not be wealthy, but I never had to depend on a man who was struggling financially.”
“I didn’t benefit from his wealth, nor was I some follower at his beck and call. I hope you get your facts straight before labeling me as just another woman dumped by a rich guy.”
“And besides, relationships can succeed or fail. Yet in your version, it’s all reduced to some crass narrative of ‘men as gigolos and women as thieves,’ which I find quite uncivilized.”
The man’s face grew troubled, but he remained stubborn and biased. “It’s ridiculous. Some women get dumped and still defend these rich guys!”
Wearing a tight gray T-shirt, the man continued his relentless argument, determined to slap a label on Qian Xu. At this point, he had dropped the pretense of criticizing Shen Qi as a “scumbag” and was openly insulting her.
Still, Qian Xu didn’t lose her composure. She understood that some men from humble backgrounds had cognitive blind spots. As the only sons in their families, they were often spoiled and taught that the world revolved around them, focusing solely on academics but learning nothing of manners. They couldn’t tolerate any view but their own.
She found it all rather laughable.
“You seem to be thinking about Shen Qi quite a lot,” Qian Xu said, surprising the crowd that had expected the seemingly fragile woman to shy away. Instead, she stepped forward under the burning gaze of everyone, her hand lightly tapping the man’s shoulder—not to comfort, but more like a challenge. She then casually wiped her hand clean with a napkin from the table, turning her head slightly as she spoke, “Everyone’s been waiting for me to pine after him. Why are you the one so worked up?”
“Don’t worry. If you’re really that interested in Shen Qi, plenty of people here have his contact info. They’d be happy to connect you,” she said with a cold, sarcastic smile, her eyes gleaming with disdain. “Just don’t fall in love too hard.”
