{It’s as if their three years together never existed 4}
“Sorry, it’s my fault for not disciplining my children,” Shen Qi cleared his throat, instructing his assistant and bodyguards to immediately take the two children away. As a father, he seemed indifferent toward his kids, who had been of no use today. He didn’t offer them a single extra word, maintaining his cold attitude, then turned to her and said in a low voice, “If you don’t want to see them—”
At this point, Qian Xu didn’t know how much clearer she could be. Her loathing for him and his children was almost tangible.
Shen Qi, ever the male protagonist, quickly regained his composure. It was as if the embarrassing spectacle had never happened. He appeared unaffected, as though nothing could faze him.
And this was precisely what Qian Xu hated most about him.
He was like an emotionless machine. Three years of interaction hadn’t brought out even a hint of humanity in him. He discarded his children without hesitation when they were of no use, so how could he possibly be someone with any conscience?
Qian Xu had often doubted whether Shen Qi’s treatment of the female lead was any different. He would likely pull her back into his arms when he pleased, using her as an outlet for his anger, completing his long-awaited revenge, only to discard her once more.
If it weren’t for the innate emotional connection between the male and female lead, Qian Xu couldn’t even imagine Shen Qi finding his way to any sort of happy ending with anyone.
But, their twisted relationship had nothing to do with her.
Qian Xu felt that her role here was simply to tell him, with utmost seriousness, “Shen Qi, have you considered that the person I least want to see might just be you?”
With those words, Qian Xu turned and walked in the opposite direction, with not a single trace of hesitation.
Her resolve was unmistakable.
Shen Qi, left standing there, found it all rather strange. He couldn’t understand why she had refused his goodwill. Things weren’t unfolding according to his carefully laid-out plan.
He had never experienced such emotions before—this irritation, this sense of being out of control.
These unfamiliar feelings should have made him instinctively pull away from Qian Xu, to sever their connection. He thought back to his initial conclusion when he returned to China—everything that happened in America had already ended and was irrelevant now.
But something had changed, and suddenly, he was obsessively waiting for her to come back. Maybe it started with Gu Wei’s phone call, or maybe it had to do with his disappointment in Cheng Shuangyi, or perhaps it was the confidence of the designer who promised that “the one who will guide them back” had returned… It might have been even earlier than that. It was as though he had always subconsciously reserved a place for her, assuming she would return.
Shen Qi couldn’t understand how Qian Xu could utter such words, as though their three years together had never happened.
