The Female Supporting Character Who Accompanied The Main Character Through Poverty Has Awakened: Chapter 29-4

{Guys, is this for your kids? 4}

Upon being reminded, Zhao Buhui immediately picked up the items. “Didn’t you say you didn’t want to celebrate my birthday?”

Qian Xu’s tone remained calm, “I just wanted to check in on you, see if you had anyone by your side…”

“You show this much care for every friend around you?” Zhao Buhui pressed, as if trying to dig deeper into her response.

“More or less.”

This was just as he’d expected; he’d known it from the start. Qian Xu was someone born to care for others.

Qian Xu had no idea why he was bringing this up. Did he want her to say she’d celebrated Yan Li’s birthday more elaborately because Yan Li was her best friend? That wouldn’t mean her friendship with him was less significant. There was no need to spell it all out.

“Let’s go, we can check out the cake shop ahead,” Qian Xu called to him. “Forget those old-fashioned cakes that claim to have ‘real cream’ but use plant cream. I’ll splurge on the real dairy cream for you.”

“Hurry up—it’s almost midnight, and your birthday will be over.”

“It’s no big deal.”

Wasn’t he the one eager to have a birthday celebration for himself? How could he suddenly look so unconcerned?

But then Zhao Buhui completely shattered her expectations with his next words. “It’s actually my birthday two days in a row—one is on the solar calendar, the other on the lunar calendar.”

How could anyone hear that and not think, impressive. Qian Xu couldn’t shake the feeling that if she hadn’t come today, he would have found a way to bring up the next day’s birthday with her. He really did love celebrating.

Maybe he’d even like to set off firecrackers on the main street of Jiangcheng for three days straight?

“What’s with that look?”

Zhao Buhui wondered if she really planned to keep celebrating his birthday for several days. But Qian Xu, seeing right through him, said, “Once we buy this cake, that’s about it for the celebration.”

“Alright.”

But from his face, Qian Xu could clearly read an expression that said, “Is that all?”

Yet, she softened a bit, seeing how he’d left all his friends behind to spend time with her—a manager her father had appointed. She pointed to a few trendy cakes on the pastry shop’s group-buy package. “Zhao Buhui, pick one.”

Predictably, he chose the one with a little monster on top.

“For your child?” the server asked as she carefully placed the purple monster cake in a milk-white box. “This cake is a popular choice among kids; it’s from our collaboration with Monster Academy…”

Qian Xu awkwardly admitted, “It’s for him.”

“Yep, it’s for me.” Zhao Buhui made no attempt to deny it, instead claiming it proudly. What Qian Xu didn’t notice, though, was the hint of barely concealed delight in his eyes.

“Look at me, thinking like I’m back in my hometown. People marry early there,” the server laughed sweetly. “So, I guess your boyfriend has kept his childlike heart.”

Finally, Zhao Buhui let himself laugh aloud, only to hear Qian Xu whispering to the server, “Actually, he’s not my boyfriend.”

If he hadn’t been holding the cake and heading out, Qian Xu would have stayed to explain their relationship more clearly.

But he was quite tall, and sometimes he walked fast, never waiting for anyone.
