{“Didn’t Qian Xu agree with this?” 4}
Cheng Shuangyi’s arrogance only grew stronger when it came to the people around her, and even though she was somewhat of an outlier in her family, that didn’t affect her confidence in the slightest.
“It’s my fault, Shuangyi, please don’t take it to heart,” Xu Jun apologized repeatedly, “I was just mentioning it casually.”
Cheng Shuangyi wasn’t in the mood to continue the conversation: “Hang up.”
What her friend had been wanting to say was on the tip of her tongue, and finally, just before the call ended, she couldn’t hold it back any longer. She hadn’t said anything earlier not because she didn’t want to share the information, but because she didn’t want to put Cheng Shuangyi in an awkward position. Now, with no way to reach her goal, she felt there was no need to keep hiding things.
Xu Jun hesitated before speaking, “Shuangyi, actually, I saw your kids at the event…”
“Well, you saw them, so what?”
“But they went to find Qian Xu…” Xu Jun said, her voice hesitant, like she had thought long and hard before mentioning it. Only she knew how satisfying it was to say those words, after having always been overshadowed by Cheng Shuangyi since childhood.
She had always been the one fighting battles for her friend, but now, Cheng Shuangyi was indifferent when it came to issues regarding her marriage.
Perhaps the dynamics between men and women were all the same. She and Ji Shifeng weren’t so different. She had felt several times that he was getting close to his personal assistant, but she hadn’t confronted him. The reason was simple: even though Ji Shifeng might not be perfect, he was still the best option she had.
Ji Shifeng and Su Rian’an were no comparison to the sons of wealthy families, but at least he could provide for her.
Xu Jun knew very well in her heart that if the connections she represented couldn’t help Ji Shifeng, then their divorce was inevitable and far off.
That’s why she didn’t hesitate to stir things up at the banquet—to make sure everyone could see how strong her friendship with Cheng Shuangyi was.
But, in the end, all of this was pointless.
Cheng Shuangyi hadn’t changed a bit over the years—she would always just consider her own feelings.
—-
Although Cheng Shuangyi claimed she “didn’t care,” in her heart, she started to feel some disdain toward the two kids. They came to find her, making noise and disturbing her sleep. She had to sacrifice some of her rest just to deal with them, but they were just ignorant kids who couldn’t distinguish between relationships, let alone understand their respective positions—
That’s why they ran to find Qian Xu.
As for why they suddenly turned to Qian Xu, Cheng Shuangyi had no idea at first. But when she opened a variety show channel on a video website, everything became crystal clear.
They couldn’t find her, so they settled for Qian Xu?
Fine.
She had been too harsh in her judgment earlier.
She could understand it, but she didn’t want to understand—
Cheng Shuangyi felt that the children were like insatiable monsters, driven by so-called curiosity. Under the excuse of “growing up,” they always wanted to get everything without paying any price.
But now, she couldn’t seem to find a reason to refuse.
Before, she hadn’t wanted to join these variety shows because they seemed low-class and involved random room assignments, like drawing lots for a pigsty room. She didn’t care about that.
But now, things had changed, and she couldn’t just watch someone else take the opportunity she had worked so hard to secure and give it to another woman.
She thought, maybe she should just join the show.
She didn’t want to endure the hardships, but at most, she could play the role of a “bad mom” on the show. Crafting a persona wasn’t difficult, and it might even benefit her.
She remembered how her uncle’s family had been pressuring her about her pocket money recently.
Cheng Shuangyi instinctively frowned.
She made a call to her contact in the entertainment industry. It wasn’t anyone else—her brother Cheng Shuyu, whom she was trying to help gain more power in the family.
Cheng Shuangyi didn’t beat around the bush and went straight to the point: “My dear brother, I’ve been thinking of trying out the entertainment industry. What do you think?”
“Sis, are you serious?” Cheng Shuyu responded, instinctively resisting his sister’s decision. “Aren’t you worried that your ex-boyfriends will be dug up and your dirty laundry aired for everyone to see?”
“Just them? Do they even dare?”
Cheng Shuyu reminded his sister, “I know Qi Ge might have some influence behind him, but you two have been over for so many years. Do you really think he’ll take your side?”
Cheng Shuangyi arrogantly retorted, “Why wouldn’t he?”
“Fine, do what you want,” Cheng Shuyu said, seemingly preparing for his next appointment. He warned her again as he touched up his makeup, “But if you want to build a persona, don’t do it at the expense of those two kids.”
