{“Susu, you’re biased!” 2}
She read with a lot of emotion, fully invested, “When Bian Yuan established the Bianji Group, it was like raising a young child. He handled everything personally and never sought any outside help.”
The capitalist Bian Yuan interrupted, “Nonsense, I clearly sought financing…”
No.
Why did he need to explain everything to her?
Wasn’t he supposed to be working? How could he still be attentive to her recitation?
Bian Yuan naturally sensed that the woman had mixed in more than one false interview, but if she was willing to understand him, he would gladly share bits and pieces of his past. However, judging by her detached attitude, it seemed she was merely indulging a fleeting interest rather than genuinely wanting to know.
At that moment, the doorbell of the office suddenly rang.
It was Guan Ju, an old classmate from Bian Yuan’s time back home. Guan Ju had his own insights regarding public relations and had done a lot for the company over the years. However, Bian Yuan seemed intentionally neutral towards the old friend to ensure fairness in personnel arrangements, so Guan Ju’s position at Bianji over the years had not been particularly high.
Guan Ju himself didn’t seem to mind.
With a breezy smile, Guan Ju said, “I heard yesterday that Mr. Bian brought a woman to work overtime and even bought supper for the colleagues. I was quite surprised. Come on, Old Bian, is this true?”
At that moment, Yu Suye felt she had nowhere to hide.
She didn’t want to be caught by the gossiping person, and the empty office had almost no place to conceal herself; even if there were, it would be too ambiguous.
Yu Suye’s eardrums throbbed as she heard the man calmly say, “There is indeed such a woman.”
Knowing she had no way out, Yu Suye decided to meet it head-on. She put on a standard smile, “It’s me.”
“No way?” The man reacted with a mix of disbelief and appropriateness, patting Bian Yuan on the shoulder, “I didn’t expect you to bring her around every day like this.”
Guan Ju extended a friendly hand towards Yu Suye.
“Hello, I’m an old classmate of Mr. Bian and currently one of his subordinates.”
Yu Suye shook hands with him, a process that lasted less than half a second, but she felt Bian Yuan’s gaze fixated on their handshake until she let go.
Guan Ju seemed to notice Bian Yuan’s possessiveness, and Yu Suye felt that the man who had just entered was quite perceptive. He should have noticed her presence right away, yet he calmly waited for Bian Yuan to introduce her. Now he merely sensed a slight tension in Bian Yuan’s mood and immediately said he had to leave.
“I still have some project work in my office, so I won’t disturb you.”
His words were perfectly composed, but Yu Suye subtly sensed that their interaction wasn’t as warm as that of old classmates.
As he was leaving, Guan Ju seemingly tested the waters by mentioning the selection of this year’s best public relations plan that he didn’t win, casually allowing Bian Yuan to observe the situation. Throughout, Bian Yuan maintained a businesslike demeanor, saying, “Your original proposal had some issues. I don’t think it meets Bianji’s standards for an award.”
Guan Ju appeared to have anticipated this outcome and didn’t show any embarrassment.
However, Yu Suye didn’t understand the scheming between old foxes, though she grasped the basics of human interaction.
“Mr. Bian, do you really have to be so cold-hearted?” Yu Suye knew she shouldn’t be so presumptuous, but sensing some discord between the two men, she deliberately tried to bridge the gap, “You should at least give a consolation prize to your old friend, right?”
Bian Yuan didn’t outright refuse but replied coolly, “Let’s talk about it later.”
Yu Suye saw Guan Ju off.
However, she didn’t expect that after Guan Ju exited through the door, his expression turned less friendly.
“Miss Yu, do you love meddling in other people’s affairs?”
Guan Ju said this with a hint of irritation. Returning to start a business, some, like Bian Yuan, had soared to great heights, while most were struggling just to make ends meet, just like him.
“Have you thought about it? I don’t need someone like Bian Yuan to approve of me. A consolation prize means nothing to me.”
Guan Ju had long stopped wanting to work for someone like Bian Yuan; he was just curious about the news of him having a woman. Now, it seemed that this woman’s value wasn’t that high. Although she was beautiful, she didn’t appear particularly capable of supporting Bian Yuan in his endeavors.
After saying this, Guan Ju fell silent and left.
It wasn’t that he truly had work to do; it was that the more he spent time with Bian Yuan, the greater his inner emptiness grew.
It was one thing to have a big gap between people, but how could Bian Yuan be so dismissive of this group of founding members?
He hadn’t even returned to the office yet when he heard his phone make a “ding,” and Alipay suddenly notified him of a transaction of “300,000.” The payer was none other than the seemingly unfeeling Bian Yuan.
Suddenly, he felt Bian Yuan’s face wasn’t so detestable after all.
At least in the face of money, he had become amiable. He vowed he could work hard for Bian Yuan again for a while.
Yu Suye returned to the office looking listless.
“Regret it?”
“What?”
“Speaking up for insignificant people,” Bian Yuan stated calmly, presenting a universal truth, “Others may not appreciate it.”
“He doesn’t seem like a truly bad person, and besides, he should still have some friendship with you.”
Bian Yuan coldly flipped through some drafts of contracts, subtly reminding the woman again, “Do you think I’m like you, being sentimental everywhere?”
Yu Suye had initially wanted to facilitate a connection between Bian Yuan and his old classmate, hoping to create a world where he was not alone. But who would have thought this would become the man’s leverage to tease her? She felt a bit gloomy.
At that moment, Bian Yixing’s call conveniently came through on her WeChat.
It was a video call, and before Yu Suye could even consider the scenario, she answered it.
Even though Bian Yuan wasn’t actually in the frame, the background was Bian Yuan’s office, so how could Bian Yixing not know?
She thought that since her mom was busy with school and her dad was busy with work, it was only natural they wouldn’t accompany her.
As a three-and-a-half-year-old, she chose to be accommodating, giving adults plenty of space. But things were completely different from what she imagined. At least her dad didn’t seem like someone who would quietly observe her mom’s life from a distance.
He said to respect her mom, but in the end, he was the first to rush in, eager to spend time with her. Wanting to be a family was one thing, but this bad man also wanted to have alone time with her.
How could Bian Yixing tolerate that?
As soon as the call connected, Bian Yixing angrily said, “Susu, why aren’t you playing with me? Why are you only playing with my dad?!”
