Chapter 43 : Extra 5 : The Mysterious Great Magic Is a Woof Woof Circle?!

Today as well, a mysterious and unsolved case was brought into the Fenrir Knight squad.

“One dog after dog is being kidnapped? A dognapping incident?!”

Dietrich-sama shouted with a mysterious expression on his face. Apparently, the ferocious dogs that were kept in the garden as a watchdog suddenly disappeared. Only noble houses were the victims of this. Gilbert-sama looked taken aback when he looked at the list of the houses.

“Do we have a map?”

“Eh? Yes, it’s here.”

Flustered, I quickly spread the map on the table. Gilbert-sama took a quill and an ink and he started to circle the victim’s house one after another. 

“I-I knew it…!”

“Th-This is…!”

Both of the Fenrir brothers looked surprised as they noticed something. I could do nothing but tilting my head to the side in confusion. 

“What’s the matter?”

“This is.. Magic!”

When you connected the houses that had their dog kidnapped on the map, you could see the shape of a magic circle. 

“This is a large-scale magic circle that was made 500 years ago, the Woof Woof Circle!”

“Wha-What do you mean by umm… Woof Woof Circle?”

“It’s a dog supremacy magic. It’s an extremely dangerous magic because that magic will make you want to worship a dog. When you see a dog, you will just want to bow down to it!”

“Oh no!”

Apparently, 15 dogs were needed for this magic. However, the magic didn’t require the dog’s life, just making the dog feeling loved or basically making the dog felt better was enough. 

“So the dogs that were kidnapped, they’re still alive?”

“Yes, most probably.”

I felt relieved when I heard that. Maybe because I was a wolf beastman, I couldn’t think of a dog as a mere stranger.

“But, how did an unthinkable magic like the Woof Woof Circle magic come to be?”

“That’s….”

It was said 500 years ago, there was a king who really loved dogs. The king then ordered a magician to create a spell to make the citizens of his nation to cherish dogs more than ever. 

“The country where they developed Woof Woof Circle magic, ended up in a terrible state.”

“Na-Naturally.”

The people kept on worshiping dogs faithfully without doing their own job. The city was ravaged by stray dogs and was nearly destroyed. The Woof Woof Circle was immediately removed and the magic was marked as forbidden.

“To complete this magic, I’m guessing their last target must be this house. This is the fifteen and the last house they need. If the dog in this house were to be kidnapped, the Woof Woof Circle would be completed.”

“Then we need to quickly and protect the dog in that house!”

We prepared ourselves in great hurry and rushed to the site. The fifteen house was located on the outskirts of the noble house residence. The dog they raised were kept in the garden and the dog was on the extremely large side, spanning over two meters tall.

“Gurururuwu.”

When the dog noticed us, it began to growl ferociously at us. The dog was especially wary of Dietrich-sama who had invaded his territory.

“Umm… Dietrich-sama, do you think it’s even possible to kidnap a dog like that?”

“Yes, the possibility is there. It seems they’ve also kidnapped an extra large dog too before.”

“I-Is that so…”

For the time being, this extra large dog was taken to another place while Dietrich-sama took the dog’s original spot. 

“But can we really fool the culprit? The original dog of this house has spots on them and Dietrich-sama is a pure white dog.”

“No problem! Gilbert! Draw a spot pattern on me!”

“Understood!”

Gilbert-sama then used magic to make Dietirich-sama look like the original extra large dog. I was feeling relieved because I had thought Gilbert-sama would really draw a spot pattern on Dietrich-sama’s body. But still, I was wondering what kind of tricks the culprit had up their sleeve to be able to kidnap the dogs. 

The rest of us then used illusion magic to hide ourselves and waited for the culprit to come. 

Not a long ago later, the night came. In the meantime, I was transformed into my dog form. But this form was actually more convenient for me since I could see better in the dark like this. 

The culprit then appeared. To my surprise, the culprit was flying in the air. 

“Doggie-chan, are you being a good boy?~”

He was wearing a mantle that covered his entire body but judging from his voice, I was certain the culprit was a man in his 40s or 50s. 

“Look~ I have a delicious meat for you~”

It turned out the culprit was using meat to lure the dog. It was an extremely simple method. 

“If you come with me, the magic will be complete~”

We finally obtained the statement that really proved he was the culprit of the kidnapping. We immediately went to secure him. Dietrich-sama stood up and growled at the man. 

“UOOOO!”

“H-Huh? Wh-What’s wrong?!”

The man fell on his butt out of surprise. Gilbert-sama then wasted no time and quickly apprehended the man with magic. 

“This is it!”

“Uwah!!”

We captured the culprit behind the Woof Woof Circle magic easily….

“I just couldn’t forgive these nobles for not cherishing their dogs more! They have such an adorable dog but they kept them outside and made them work as a watchdog!”

The man, who was being restrained by the knights, kept on shouting. 

“One day, I will really make it! I will make a dog paradise!”

“Shut up! Hurry up and walk!”

How to say it… We barely managed to avoid a terrible situation in the royal capital. I was glad we were able to solve it without any incident. 

“Is it an incident brought by the cuteness of us, the large dogs?”

“It appears to be so, big brother.”

The remarks exchanged between the harmonious brothers were left unnoticed. Today too, the royal capital was at peace.

T/N: NGL, I can understand what the man is talking about. People really should take better care of their dog. Dogs are living beings, not just decoration. Some people just buy a dog because they’re cute but not ready for the responsibility. (´-ω-`)
