Chapter 52
At midnight, Li Yuechan took out her small electric cart after leaving the city. She ran quickly to the East Hill grove, unloading 5,000 jin of rice and 5,000 jin of flour.
She also brought an extra 100 jin of apples.
Soon, Jin Biao arrived with a group of people, sneaking around.
Seeing the goods in front of them, everyone’s eyes lit up. Jin Biao quickly arranged for the unloading.
“Big brother, look! Apples! Wow, these apples are so big and red!”
Jin Biao examined the apples and said, “These apples are really good. Let’s buy them at sixty cents each. Jinbu, pass on the word to them tomorrow—whatever they have, we’ll take it all!”
When Zhang Jinbu heard this, he was so shocked that his jaw almost dropped. He knew apples were rare, but he hadn’t expected them to be so expensive—almost as much as pork!
Li Yuechan raised an eyebrow upon hearing this and thought to herself, “Why bother growing rice? Just plant fruit trees instead.”
But after a moment’s thought, she decided against it. Rare items are valuable, but if there were too many, they wouldn’t be worth anything!
The next morning, Li Yuechan received 2,060 yuan for the goods.
She happily counted her money and realized she already had over 7,000 yuan in her stash!
Just as she was savoring her good fortune, she heard a knock at the door.
“Yuechan, Mao Dou’s here to see you!”
“I’m coming!”
Li Yuechan quickly put on her shoes, hopped out of bed, and went to the door to find Mao Dou standing outside.
“What’s up, Mao Dou?”
“Yuechan sis, my grandma was admitted to the hospital the other day. I went this morning to bring her some food, and guess who I saw?”
Li Yuechan furrowed her brows. “Who did you see?”
“I saw Han Chunguang, the guy who came to your house and stole stuff last time!”
Li Yuechan’s brows furrowed tightly. “What? You saw Han Chunguang?”
“Yeah, it was him. He’s in the room next door to my grandma! Didn’t you say he got arrested last time? How is he still in the hospital?”
Li Yuechan’s mind started racing. Last time, Gu Zhixing had said that people from Beidahuang would be coming over in three days, and now three days had passed, but Han Chunguang hadn’t been taken away? How was he in the hospital?
“Which hospital?”
“The First People’s Hospital, Room 307.”
“Thanks, Mao Dou.”
“Alright, I’ll leave now, Yuechan sis.”
“Wait a minute.” Li Yuechan went back into her room and grabbed three apples from her space, handing them to Mao Dou. “Here, Mao Dou, take these and try them.”
Mao Dou’s mouth watered when he saw the apples, but he quickly waved his hand. “I can’t take these, Yuechan sis. They’re too precious.”
“Precious? They’re just food,” she said as she pushed the apples into his hands. “Alright, I’m going back. You’d better hurry and go.”
Mao Dou bit his lip. “Okay, thank you, Yuechan sis. If you ever need me, just call on Mao Dou.”
“Alright, go on now.”
After Mao Dou left, Li Yuechan began to feel more uneasy as she thought about the situation. “Mom, I’m going for a walk. I’ll be back soon.”
“Alright, just make sure you’re home for lunch.”
“Okay.”
Li Yuechan hopped on her bike and rushed to the First People’s Hospital, heading straight for Room 307.
She stood on tiptoe and peeked through the window of the room. There, lying on the bed, was Han Chunguang. Her eyes narrowed.
Just then, a nurse passed by, and Li Yuechan hurried over to her, smiling brightly. “Hello, sister. I’m here to visit my grandma, but I noticed someone in Room 307 who went to my school. Can I go see him?”
The nurse gave her a once-over, noticing that she was pretty and well-dressed. She then glanced at Room 307 and kindly warned, “Don’t go in there, dear. The person in Room 307 seems to have a contagious disease. I heard his lungs aren’t in good shape.”
“You’d better not go in, in case you catch something,” the nurse cautioned.
“Ah, thank you, pretty sister.”
Li Yuechan pulled an apple out of her pocket and handed it to the nurse. “Sister, please have an apple.”
The nurse looked at the apple in her hand. It was quite a rare item. When she looked up, the girl was already gone without a trace.
Li Yuechan rubbed her chin. “Contagious disease? Is that for real? Could he be pretending to be sick to avoid prison?”
But the public security bureau and the hospital couldn’t have gotten it wrong. She’d better wait until Gu Zhixing returned and ask him about it.
Back at home, Li Yuechan still felt uneasy. What were the chances of something like this happening?
It seemed she’d have to go to Han Chunguang’s house to check things out.
That evening, Li Yuechan quietly made her way to Han Chunguang’s house.
She nimbly jumped over the gate into his yard and hid behind a building.
Pressing her ear to the door crack, she overheard a woman’s proud voice saying, “It’s all thanks to my brother. Chuangguang finally got out.”
Han Jinzhu laughed along, saying, “Yeah, my brother-in-law is amazing.”
“Of course! My brother is really something! He said Chuangguang should stay in the hospital for half a month, then get some medical parole. After that, we’ll figure it out. As long as he doesn’t go to Beidahuang, it’ll be fine.”
Han Jinzhu quickly nodded, “But is Chuangguang’s pneumonia okay?”
“It’s nothing. It’s just a cold. The hospital exaggerated it a bit.”
“Good, I’ve got something good here. I’ll send it over to my brother-in-law tomorrow.”
“My brother’s seen everything. What’s so special about what you have?”
“Ah, never mind, my brother-in-law will definitely like it.”
“Alright, whatever.”
Li Yuechan clenched her teeth as she listened, cursing them in her heart. “Damn them, they actually had Han Chunguang fake being sick!”
Are the police and the hospital idiots? How could they help with such a deception?
She hadn’t expected the Han family to be so powerful. There had to be someone helping them from the inside of the police department.
Otherwise, how could a fool like Han Chunguang even think of pretending to be sick?
Li Yuechan took out some tranquilizer smoke from her space and threw it into the room with a swift motion.
She crouched by the wall for a while, and when the noise inside quieted down, she opened the door and walked in confidently.
These people were no good. They had even hired someone to commit murder, and now they were letting Han Chunguang out. It seemed she’d have to teach them a lesson.
She looked around. One person was lying on the kang, another on the bed. Remembering the “good things” Han Jinzhu had mentioned, she went over to him, starting with the watch on his wrist. She then found 160 yuan in cash. Hmm, he was carrying so much money on him. With his salary, this had to be ill-gotten.
Then she pulled out a photo from his pocket. Li Yuechan glanced at it and immediately threw it far away, horrified. It was a picture of a woman with barely any clothes on. What a shock! The woman in the photo was even underage! She’d have to wash her eyes later.
After thinking for a moment, she picked up the photo again, printed a copy of it using the color printer in her space, and then stuffed it back into Han Jinzhu’s clothes. Who knows, it might come in handy later.
