Chapter 74
At this time, the children were getting out of school one by one.
Yang Aifang looked at the alley entrance and said, “Hey, why hasn’t Mao Dou come back yet?”
Su Lizhen glanced over and said, “Don’t worry, he’s probably playing on the way home!”
Just as she said that, Mao Dou came into the yard. Yang Aifang took a look and said, “Hey, how did your mouth get cut? And what’s with the bruise on your face?”
Mao Dou turned his head away and said, “None of your business.”
“Hey, what’s going on with you, little rascal?”
“Mom~! It’s just kid stuff, why do you need to interfere?”
“Hey, I’m your mom. If I don’t take care of you, who will?”
Just then, Li Yuechan came out of the house. Mao Dou spotted her and immediately ran over, looking pitiful. “Yuechan sister…”
Li Yuechan was stunned for a moment. “Oh? What happened?”
Mao Dou puckered his lips, his eyes full of grievance.
Li Yuechan saw what had happened and immediately pulled him to the corner to speak privately.
Yang Aifang saw the situation and said to Su Lizhen, “Look at this child, he’s already this big, taller than Yuechan by a head, and still goes around troubling her every day.”
“Oh, don’t worry about the kids. Let’s wash the vegetables quickly and get dinner ready.”
…
“What? You were beaten up by a kid from the municipal party compound? What happened?”
Mao Dou pouted. “I don’t know. Today a new student transferred into our class, and immediately started acting like the boss. Of course, I wasn’t going to stand for it. I’m the boss in our class. So we ended up setting up a fight. But, but, he didn’t play fair and brought three people to help!”
“And the whole class saw it. My reputation as the boss is gone now! I totally lost face today!”
Li Yuechan touched his head and said, “What’s this? Let’s just deal with him once and for all. After that, he won’t dare to mess with you again. Don’t worry, sister will help you get revenge.”
Mao Dou’s eyes lit up with gratitude. “Yuechan sister, I knew you were the best to me!”
Li Yuechan gave Mao Dou a pat on the shoulder. “Don’t worry. You’re under my protection. If they bully you, they’re bullying me. No one gets away with messing with us. We’ll make sure to get revenge!”
The two of them huddled together, whispering and muttering to each other, then each turned and walked in different directions.
Before long, it was already eight in the evening.
The sky outside was pitch dark, and it was so dark that one couldn’t see their hand in front of their face. In a small town like this, streetlights were practically nonexistent.
Li Yuechan was riding her bicycle swiftly, with Mao Dou sitting on the back. They wobbled along, heading straight for the entrance of the municipal party compound.
In no time, they arrived at the entrance.
Li Yuechan saw that there was a guard post and glanced at the surrounding wall. She figured she could easily jump over it, but she looked at Mao Dou with a disdainful glance.
She walked slowly along the wall and, as expected, found a small dog hole hidden in the corner.
“Mao Dou, you go through this dog hole.”
“What about you, Yuechan sister?” Mao Dou asked, furrowing his brow.
“Don’t worry about me. Just go through it quickly,” Li Yuechan urged. She wasn’t going through that dog hole—never in her life.
Mao Dou obediently crouched down, positioning his feet carefully and awkwardly squeezing his way through the small hole.
Once inside the compound, Mao Dou looked up and saw Yuechan standing to the side.
“Sister, how did you get here so quickly?” Mao Dou asked, eyes wide in surprise.
“Hmph, this little thing is nothing to me!” Li Yuechan said proudly, raising her chin. “I just jumped right over the wall with ease!”
Mao Dou looked up at the towering three-meter-high wall in awe and said, “Sister, you’re amazing! When will you teach me how to do that?”
“Alright, we’ll talk about it later when we have the chance,” Li Yuechan smiled and patted Mao Dou on the shoulder.
The yard was quiet, and the two of them slipped through the shadows, going unnoticed.
Li Yuechan looked at the buildings in front of her and asked, “Which one is it? Did you hear clearly?”
“Don’t worry, sister. I’ve been working on this all afternoon. I know exactly which one!” Mao Dou replied confidently.
“Alright then, let’s go!”
They turned corners and arrived at a five-story building.
“Which one is it?”
“Third floor, 1234. Yes, this one. See? The lights are on!”
Li Yuechan glanced at the building and nodded, looking at the open window. “Heh, just watch this!”
Mao Dou, feeling a bit uneasy, asked, “Sister Yuechan, what are we going to do?”
“Don’t worry, I’ve got it all figured out!” Li Yuechan said, digging through her small bag. She pulled out a piece of paper and a pen, quickly scribbling something down:
“Grandson, if you’re brave enough, come down and face me. One-on-one. Don’t embarrass yourself by bringing a bunch of people with you. I won’t respect you!”
She crumpled the paper into a ball, then with a quick flick of her wrist, tossed it into the room through the open window.
Mao Dou watched in amazement as the small paper ball sailed smoothly into the third floor window. “Wow, Sister Yuechan, you’re amazing!” he whispered in awe.
Inside the room, the person was bored and staring at the ceiling. Suddenly, there was a thud, and looking down, they saw a small paper ball.
Curious, they picked it up and opened it. Immediately, their anger flared up, and they clenched their fists. Storming to the window, they saw Mao Dou standing below, giving them a thumbs-up and a taunting gesture.
Their rage erupted. “What is this? How dare you challenge me! You want to take my position as the boss? Just wait, I’ll deal with you!”
But just before heading out, they hesitated for a moment. However, after thinking it over, they figured it was just in the family compound, so there was nothing to be afraid of.
With quick steps, they descended the stairs. When they reached the spot where Mao Dou had been, they were surprised to find he was gone.
Where did that kid go? Did he run away in fear? Just as they were thinking this, they were suddenly blinded as a sack was thrown over their head.
