The Forbidden City’s Sweetest Secret
The Forbidden City’s Sweetest Secret Chapter 3

Chapter 3 She was abandoned again.

After finishing breakfast, Jiang Wansheng returned to school.

The female dormitory at Fuhua University was a four-person room, and it was a mixed-gender dorm. Among the four roommates, one was Shu Ke from the same department as Jiang Wansheng, another was Qin Weizhao from the music department who often went out for competitions, and the third was Zeng Duoli from the computer science department.

When Jiang Wansheng arrived at the dormitory, it was almost a quarter past nine, and none of the three roommates were there. Shu Ke was studying in the library, Qin Weizhao had gone to Yucheng a few days ago to participate in a piano competition and hadn’t returned yet, and Zeng Duoli had an early class that hadn’t ended.

She had no classes today and didn’t plan to go to the library. After taking a shower and changing clothes, she headed straight to the Student Activity Center Building A, the venue for the “Zhi Chi Xing Chen” Reading Society.

Walking into the president’s office, she pushed the door open.

She was wearing a pink and white striped short-sleeved t-shirt and light blue straight pants, with a high ponytail. Her slender and delicate neck was fully exposed, making her look beautiful and fresh.

However, her exquisite face showed no expression, as if her stunning beauty was encased in a layer of ice.

Since losing contact with Zheng Wen, Wen Qing had been worried. Now, looking at Jiang Wansheng standing in front of her, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease.

Before Wen Qing could speak, Jiang Wansheng asked, “Where is my bag?”

She had left in a hurry last night and hadn’t had time to take her bag with her.

Wen Qing took out her white bag from the desk drawer and handed it to her, smiling apologetically, “Wansheng, last night… you’re okay, right?”

Taking the bag, Jiang Wansheng looked at her calmly, “What do you think?”

“Do you want me to be okay or not?” she asked.

“Of course, I hope you’re okay,” Wen Qing’s smile seemed a bit forced.

Feeling ironic, Jiang Wansheng asked, “So, did you drug me?”

In the calmest and gentlest voice, Jiang Wansheng didn’t hesitate to uncover Wen Qing’s disguise and shatter the hidden luck in her heart.

Wen Qing’s smile froze suddenly.

A strange silence filled the room.

“Have you thought about the consequences? What would have happened if I hadn’t dodged in time? Have you thought about that?” Jiang Wansheng calmly questioned.

Wen Qing dared not meet her eyes.

“I joined the society through your introduction. We spent three years together. You are my trusted senior and partner. Why?”

“Did Zheng Wen threaten you? Or did you volunteer?”

Jiang Wansheng asked slowly and cruelly, and Wen Qing’s expression gradually turned fierce, a mix of anger and embarrassment after being exposed so bluntly.

“What’s wrong with that?!” Wen Qing no longer concealed her emotions.

“Behind Zheng Wen is the Zheng family. Although not as prestigious as the top families in Beijing, it’s a social circle we could never reach in our lifetime. Being with him could save you at least twenty years of struggle, right?”

Jealousy flashed in Wen Qing’s eyes. “You know the job prospects for Chinese majors. We don’t have as many opportunities as you do, but you do! Because you’re beautiful! You can freely choose among the wealthy suitors pursuing you, and your future is bright. It could be someone other than Zheng Wen! What did I do wrong?!”

“I don’t understand what you’re trying to achieve. Perhaps you’re trying to hook an even bigger fish?”

Jiang Wansheng looked calmly at Wen Qing as her expression gradually twisted. She brought up something seemingly unrelated to the matter at hand, “The school has introduced a new policy this year. If the leaders of various clubs rank in the top 20% of the department and the club activities are of high quality and have a broad impact, they can qualify for the postgraduate recommendation for professional master’s programs. It’s a special support for niche majors.”

“As the president of the Reading Society, all you need to do is organize a higher-scale reading event to qualify for the interview.” She paused, smiling somewhat self-deprecatingly, “Zheng Wen can provide you with connections and funding, so you didn’t hesitate to sell me out, right?”

At this point, Wen Qing, feeling broken and reckless, sneered, “Yes, people are selfish. Who doesn’t want to climb up? I’m not as academically successful as you, so do I not need to find another way out?”

“Wen Qing,” Jiang Wansheng looked directly at her, her voice soft but firm, “If you think wrapping your selfishness and hypocrisy in the pursuit of a future can erase the little morality left in your heart, then continue deceiving yourself like this.”

“You did encourage and comfort me when I was confused in the past, and I’ve always been grateful for that, so I trusted you. But I didn’t expect you had long betrayed your former pure self.”

“I won’t hold it against you. From now on, we owe each other nothing.”

“I officially resign from ‘Zhi Chi Xing Chen.’ If there’s a next time, I will go straight to the police.”

Each word from Jiang Wansheng pierced like a dagger, openly exposing Wen Qing’s thoughts, whether overt or covert. She completely disregarded Wen Qing’s malicious speculations, remaining calm and almost indifferent.

She then turned and left without a hint of nostalgia.

Watching the slender yet strong figure of the girl, Wen Qing suddenly laughed.

It was both ridiculous and fortunate.

Ridiculous that she had forgotten her own purity from the past, which Jiang Wansheng still remembered. Fortunate that she had remained pure all along…

Jiang Wansheng walked out of the Student Activity Center. The early summer sun was not scorching yet, the surroundings lush and green, but she felt it was too glaring, the coldness in her heart sharp.

She was abandoned again.

In the calculation of interests, she was always the one left behind.

Excessive and pitiful.

She pulled the corners of her mouth numbly, a sarcastic smile.

With half-closed eyelids, her thick lashes fell, concealing all emotions in her eyes.

After composing herself, suppressing the lingering heaviness in her heart, she returned to the dormitory.

As she opened the door, a beautiful figure rushed towards her, causing her to stagger back a few steps before steadying herself.

“Wansheng!”
