Chapter 49 This Kind of Thing Won’t Happen Again.
On the way back, Jiang Wansheng leaned against the car door’s armrest with one hand supporting her chin, her pair of autumn-water eyes casually looking at the distant high-rise buildings passing by the car window one after another.
In the far horizon, only a hint of orange remained, with the rest covered in deep blue.
Qin Mo observed Jiang Wansheng from the corner of his eye and asked, “Are you hungry?”
Jiang Wansheng shifted her gaze from outside the window to him.
Qin Mo’s cold, pale, slender hand lightly rested on the pure black steering wheel, his cold and handsome face half-hidden in the night, the light and shadows outlining the perfect curvature of his features.
The swelling on her face was high and prominent, she tugged at her lips, causing a wave of pain.
Her mood wasn’t great, and at this moment, she just wanted to vent, so she directly said, “I want to eat barbecue!”
After not enjoying the Japanese food and all the hassle, she just wanted to indulge a bit now.
Qin Mo frowned, somewhat disagreeing, “With your face swollen like this, it’s best to eat light.”
“Do you want to eat something else?”
But Jiang Wansheng was feeling unreasonable at the moment, she insisted, “No, I want to eat barbecue and drink alcohol!”
The traffic light turned red at the intersection ahead.
Qin Mo stopped the car, turned to look at her, and on the girl’s beautiful yet disheveled face, a pair of eyes sparkled with stubbornness, as if saying, “If you don’t take me, I’ll go myself.”
After a moment of eye contact, he finally relented and compromised, “Just this once.”
Jiang Wansheng happily said, “Shall we go to Fuhua Road? There’s a snack street next to our school, and the ‘Feizai Barbecue’ there is especially delicious, let’s go there.”
Qin Mo nodded helplessly, now he just wanted to appease this little girl, so he had to go along with whatever she wanted.
Fuhua Road was relatively narrow, with various restaurants lining both sides of the road. Now, with the lights lit up at night, the flow of people was bustling, and the smell of food was strong in the air.
Qin Mo parked the car by the roadside and was the first to unfasten his seatbelt.
“Wait in the car for a moment.”
After saying that, without waiting for Jiang Wansheng to ask why, he walked straight to a convenience store ahead.
When he came back, he was holding a thin piece in his hand, sat in the car, tore open the packaging, and in Jiang Wansheng’s gaze, he placed the gradually fading white mask on her face.
His warm fingers traced her earlobes, then gently pinched her delicate nose, securing the mask in place.
“Done.”
Jiang Wansheng absentmindedly touched her face, she almost forgot how prominent her injuries were on her face. If she had to go to an open-air barbecue with this face, she would definitely be the most eye-catching one.
She was surprised by Qin Mo’s thoughtfulness, as if he always covered all aspects when it came to her.
Qin Mo couldn’t help but reach out and pinch her round and small earlobe, smiling, “Why do you look silly with the mask on? Don’t you want to eat barbecue now?”
Jiang Wansheng avoided his touch and gaze, quickly got out of the car, “Barbecue, barbecue.”
Qin Mo watched her run away, a faint smile flickering in his black eyes, enough to soften his usually stern expression.
He got out of the car, regardless of Jiang Wansheng’s reaction, and directly held her hand.
Under the guise of: too many people, we might get separated.
Jiang Wansheng wanted to say that this was the snack street next to her school, and she was really familiar with it. But even if she said it, Qin Mo wouldn’t let go, so she didn’t waste her breath.
Qin Mo was dressed in a crisp black suit, tall and slender, exuding an air of nobility and coldness, making him stand out in this casual setting.
Soon, Jiang Wansheng felt more and more eyes gathering on her, even with a mask on, she couldn’t avoid the embarrassment now. She quickly tightened her grip on his hand, pulled Qin Mo to “Feizai Barbecue,” found a seat facing away from the street, and finally felt a bit relieved.
Qin Mo went with the flow, letting her lead him, and even seemed to enjoy it.
Jiang Wansheng scanned the QR code to order, and asked him, “Can you eat spicy food?”
Qin Mo nodded.
She then began to order without restraint.
Duck intestines, beef, lamb, rice cakes…
The portions and variety were plentiful.
Finally, she also ordered two bottles of beer.
Qin Mo frowned, intending to stop her, but seeing her indulging so rarely, he couldn’t bear to spoil it.
This restaurant served dishes very quickly, and soon the food was brought out one after another.
In the open-air barbecue, the air was filled with a strong charcoal-grilled aroma, the noise of people, and the hustle and bustle of the street.
Jiang Wansheng sat on a colorful plastic stool, eating with gusto.
Her eating manners were not rough, but rather resembled a hamster storing food, with her cheeks bulging with each bite, and each chew lasting a long time.
One beer after another, Qin Mo knew she was venting, but he didn’t stop her.
Jiang Wansheng easily flushed, and her alcohol tolerance was low.
After half a bottle, her face was already covered in a rosy glow, her earlobes were red, and her neck was tinged with a blush.
Under the slight intoxication, she suddenly asked, “Why did you come to the hospital today?”
Qin Mo’s intense black eyes focused on her, and after a few seconds, he calmly said, “Because of what happened this afternoon.”
Jiang Wansheng realized what he was referring to and understood, “So Mr. Peng this afternoon was indeed at your direction?”
His tone became serious, “I really want to admit it was me, but it wasn’t.”
Jiang Wansheng’s mind was slow at the moment and didn’t quite understand.
“It was done by my grandfather.”
Jiang Wansheng couldn’t believe it, “Mr. Qin?”
That was Qin Mo’s father!
The young girl, with a slight hint of drunkenness, was not as cautious as usual, but rather became quick and direct, “How did he, how did he know me?”
Listening to the incredulity in the girl’s tone, Qin Mo chuckled softly, “He knew about you from the beginning, after all, you are a friend of Qin Weizhao.”
“But he intervened to protect you because I had told him that you are someone I like.”
Jiang Wansheng was shocked, her small mouth slightly agape, forgetting to even chew.
“His only hope at his age is to see me settle down, how could he allow anyone to harm the daughter-in-law he has been waiting for so long.”
His tone carried a hint of teasing.
Jiang Wansheng felt that the information was a bit overwhelming.
She never expected that Mr. Qin already knew about her existence, and that Qin Mo had even expressed his feelings to him.
“How is that possible? Doesn’t Mr. Qin think we are completely incompatible?”
Aren’t aristocratic families always about matching backgrounds for business alliances?
She had always thought that Qin Mo might just see her as a temporary amusement before marriage, and his possessiveness categorized her within his territory, hence his repeated protective actions.
The goal was just to protect his possessions.
But now,
She had to reevaluate Qin Mo’s feelings towards her.
After a few seconds of silence, she thought of another question, “Did he send someone to follow me?”
“Not exactly,” Qin Mo chuckled softly, “Aunt Wang is my grandfather’s informant. If I didn’t take you to see him, his curiosity would have gotten the better of him, and he would have wanted to find out through Aunt Wang.”
“Knowing that you and your friend were shopping today, I originally planned to observe what you liked and secretly buy it to give to you, but I didn’t expect to come across that kind of situation.”
Jiang Wansheng was speechless, not knowing what to say for a moment.
He hadn’t even met her, yet he was protecting her like this?
“Jiang Sweetie.” Qin Mo’s voice, carried by the summer night breeze, sounded hoarse and solemn, “This kind of thing won’t happen again.”
“This time was Mo’s negligence, and Mo is very sorry.”
After all, it was because of him that his Sweetie Wansheng had this unpleasant experience.
