The Forbidden City’s Sweetest Secret
The Forbidden City’s Sweetest Secret Chapter 57

Chapter 57 She fell in love with Pei Que, who never stayed for anyone.

Jiang Wansheng supported her forehead, “We’re not arguing, Xingran, don’t be afraid, focus on preparing for the surgery, okay?”

Chen Xingran felt like her sister had a lot of authority, obediently nodding, but still firmly holding Jiang Wansheng’s hand.

After a while, the doctor came to inform them that Chen Xingran was being taken into the operating room, and everyone sat on chairs outside the door waiting.

At the same time, Ming Xiao had completed the abortion and was recovering in the hospital for a day, about to be discharged.

Ming Yin was going back to the Ming family and came to pick her up on the way.

Ming Yin drove her Mercedes-Benz E300 with her own Bingmei powder, sporting large square-framed sunglasses on her high bridge of the nose, covering most of her exquisite features, leaving only her delicate chin and lips painted with red-brown lipstick.

With her hands on the steering wheel, she wore a tight-fitting camisole dress that outlined her well-proportioned figure, paired with a cardigan, exuding a casual and charming vibe.

In contrast, Ming Xiao in the passenger seat, who had just undergone the abortion, although wearing makeup, appeared somewhat stiff and unnatural.

Suppressing her unwillingness, Ming Xiao awkwardly spoke, “Don’t tell Dad, please.”

Ming Yin didn’t even turn her head, sneering coldly, “Ming Xiao, can you stop being so hypocritical? Even if I tell them, your parents won’t believe it. Otherwise, would you come to me?”

Ming Xiao’s thoughts were exposed, but she still insisted, “I don’t think like that.”

“Whatever.”

As the scenery outside the car flew by, half an hour later, the car stopped in an old villa area – Pujinzhou.

Then it stopped in front of a European-style three-story building.

The two got out of the car, and a male servant came over to take her keys.

She casually took off her sunglasses, lazily twirling the leg of the glasses. Her beautiful eyes surveyed the courtyard she hadn’t seen in two years, with various rare flowers planted in the flower pond, meticulously maintained by professionals, but it didn’t pique her interest at all.

She couldn’t be bothered to greet her father Ming Kuo and Liu Yingyi, heading straight to the backyard to find Old Master Ming.

The old master had white hair but was still lively.

He had built the Ming family’s fortune in the capital back in the day, and after retiring, he had been practicing Tai Chi at home, feeding the fish, living a leisurely and carefree life.

Ming Yin moved to the backyard and saw Old Master Ming feeding the fish by the pond with his back to her.

Before she could speak, the old master turned around first, “You little rascal!”

Ming Yin was startled, covering her chest and taking a few steps back, reproachfully saying, “You do this every time, it’s not fun.”

The old master chuckled, “I may be old, but I’m not deaf. You won’t scare me even if you wait a few more years, you little rascal.”

Ming Yin smiled and walked over to grab some fish food, feeding with the old master, joking, “Look at how capable you are.”

The old master glanced at her for a moment, his aged voice sounding, “You’ve lost weight, but you look beautiful.”

Just as Ming Yin was about to feel happy, the old master added, “Looks like you’re dating someone.”

Ming Yin’s heart skipped a beat, and she accidentally spilled a handful of fish food. The old master quickly stopped her, “Oh, you’re trying to feed my precious fish to death.”

“I didn’t mean to…”

She muttered to herself: This old man’s eyes are so sly.

The old man smiled mysteriously without revealing her thoughts, “Have you seen your dad?”

She pursed her lips, “No.”

“He’s been waiting for you in the main building for half a day, so you came here to avoid him, huh?”

“I’ll wait, I don’t want to see him.”

The old master chuckled, “If you don’t see him, he’ll come to see you. Wait, he’ll come find you soon.”

Ming Yin’s foxy eyes flickered, “You’ll come with me in a while.”

“Stop it, I won’t be your shield.”

“You’re really unreasonable, Grandpa.” Ming Yin grumbled.

“Miss!” A servant ran over to call her.

The old master gloated, “See.”

Knowing she couldn’t escape, Ming Yin turned around helplessly to meet him, leaving with a parting shot, “Just wait, I’ll steam your precious ones sooner or later!”

The old master twirled his beard and glared, “You dare!”

Ming Yin smirked, exuding a captivating charm.

In the main hall, her smile faded upon seeing Ming Kuo’s tense expression, walking over with a cold face, sitting directly on the single sofa without a word of greeting.

Ming Kuo was furious, about to explode but was stopped by Liu Yingyi, who signaled him to calm down.

Taking a deep breath, Ming Kuo said, “You’ve finally returned from studying abroad, why didn’t you come home?”

Ming Yin replied indifferently, “Isn’t this coming back?”

Ming Kuo suppressed his anger, “I allowed you to study photography for four years of your undergraduate, but that’s enough. I’ve arranged for you to transfer to business studies. I’ll consider your past few years as a break, and you better get on the right track in the future!”

Ming Yin found it absurd, her tone cold, “That’s not happening.”

“I’ve already informed your school. You’ll transfer to the business department when the summer semester starts!”

Ming Yin stood up directly, raising her voice, her beautiful features wrapped in ice, “You have no right to meddle in my life!”

“I don’t care about your company. You’re not my only daughter.

Why bother with me!” she retorted.

Liu Yingyi, with shrewd eyes, intervened, “Honey, don’t be so hard on the child.”

“Stop defending her,” Ming Kuo said sternly. “You are the legitimate heir of the Ming family. You must take on your responsibilities.”

“If you continue to pressure me like this, I’ll go abroad directly. You can consider me as not your daughter!” Ming Yin refused to back down.

A calculating glint flashed in Ming Kuo’s eyes. Suddenly, he took a step back, “Your livelihood is in my hands. Even your grandfather can’t always protect you.”

“Otherwise, do as I say, marry into an alliance, let him handle it for me, and I won’t pressure you anymore.”

Ming Yin fell silent.

Ming Kuo had pinpointed her free-spirited and unrestrained nature. She wouldn’t choose to sacrifice her marriage by marrying into an alliance. He firmly believed that Ming Yin had only chosen photography to defy him. As long as he gave her a reasonable way out, she would comply with his wishes.

“Fine,” Ming Yin suddenly spoke up.

“What!” Ming Kuo stood up in shock. “Do you know what you’re saying?”

Ming Yin’s decision wasn’t impulsive.

As her father said, she couldn’t enjoy the benefits of being in the Ming family without giving anything in return. If she had to choose between marriage and career, she would prefer her career.

She had once dreamed of love, but ironically, she fell for Pei Que, who never stayed for anyone.

Since she couldn’t grow old with the one she loved and it was difficult to find another love, she might as well accept the alliance. After all, the union of interests in a prestigious family was always superficial harmony, offering a different kind of freedom.

She understood Ming Kuo. His words were meant to provoke her. He would never hand over the Ming family’s business to an outsider, whether it was Ming Xiao or anyone else.

What she loved had to be preserved.

Ming Kuo, unable to contain his anger, gritted his teeth, “Fine, I’ll have Aunt Liu contact you immediately. We’ll meet this afternoon. Don’t regret it then!”

He would show her the spoiled playboys, and he didn’t believe she wouldn’t change her mind.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be there on time.”
