Bringing up the topic sparked a flicker of interest in Xin Ling. She couldn’t deny it—killing her enemy with her own hands would be a joyful thing.
“Back home. I’ve already locked him up long ago.”
Cen Yinian played with the girl’s small hand, lifting her rosy fingertips to his lips for a kiss. “And afterward, I’ll take you to meet the parents.”
It was about time to move on to marriage talks.
…Eh?
Before Xin Ling could gather her wits, Cen Yinian had tricked her and stuffed her into his “pocket,” carrying her straight back home.
The dungeon was pitch-black, bottomless.
Cen Yinian held Xin Ling’s hand, leading her forward, brushing close now and then. “It’s too dark here. Baby, don’t you really want me to hold you?”
“I can see just fine.”
Xin Ling shot him a secret glare.
Don’t think she didn’t know—he had deliberately ordered the dungeon guards to snuff out all the lights before they came.
“What a pity…”
Cen Yinian sighed softly. Since coaxing his way into intimacy failed, he simply wrapped an arm firmly around her waist, pulling her into his embrace.
“But Baby, I can’t see. Won’t you protect me~?”
“…”
She didn’t believe him.
But Xin Ling said nothing, letting him hold her waist and brazenly take advantage.
The guards following several meters behind caught faint sounds from ahead. Their faces showed disbelief.
Guard A: “The young master looks like he’s on some fake medicine this time.”
Guard B: “Tell me about it!”
Guard A: “Later, you go and tactfully ask where he usually buys his medicine, so the rest of us can avoid it.”
Guard B: “No problem, leave it to me.”
…
The cell was specially built—more than enough to contain a demon who had already lost half his life.
The hideous demon, bound to a pillar, was jolted awake with torture instruments.
You Lin, dazed but conscious, recognized the devil who had captured and half-crippled him. “Why the hell did you catch me?”
His voice rasped like a broken bellows, ugly and unpleasant.
“We’re the same kind. How can one demon cruelly destroy another?”
“Pfft. Who’s the same as scum like you?” came the disdainful laugh from the front, lazy and mocking, dripping with contempt.
He had worn that same expression before—back when no amount of begging saved him from a brutal beating that left him half-dead.
“Come, Baby, take a look. Is this the one? However you want him to die—it’s your decision.” Cen Yinian gently pushed Xin Ling into the main seat of the interrogation chamber.
The demon’s face was disfigured, swollen like a pig’s head, yet Xin Ling still managed to recognize him.
“It’s him. He’s the one who cut my wings.”
She nodded, tugging at Cen Yinian’s sleeve, like a bullied kitten running home to complain.
“It’s alright, Baby. Now, it’s our turn to cut him.”
“Hah…”
The bound demon suddenly let out a grating laugh. “So that’s why you caught me? Just to get revenge for this angel?”
“You dare collude with the mortal enemy of our demon clan? You’re f*cking cheap, I despise you!”
“You’re wrong. There’s no such thing as ‘mortal enemies.’” Cen Yinian lifted his hand. Dark light coiled from his fingertips around the demon’s throat, tightening until he could barely breathe.
“Only the weak whine about enemies or allies. Like you—disgusting, filthy, worthless trash.”
“N-no… not me…”
As death closed in, You Lin panicked, stammering desperately, hoping to draw his captor’s attention.
“What’s he talking about?”
Sensing something off, Xin Ling tugged Cen Yinian’s sleeve. At once, the man slackened his grip a little.
“I’ll give you a chance. Any last words?”
“It wasn’t me—it wasn’t me who cut her wings. It was a woman! A woman offered benefits in exchange, told me to kill her.”
This was no longer just about wings. This was life and death.
Cen Yinian’s eyes flickered. He pulled out his phone and gestured for a guard to pass it over. “Take a look. Is it her?”
On the screen was a surveillance snapshot—a man and a woman.
You Lin strained his eyes, focusing with all his strength. Soon, he nodded. “It’s her. She ordered it!”
“I’ll give you two choices: One, we kill you, then I go kill her. Two…”
Before Cen Yinian could finish, You Lin shouted, “Two! I choose two!”
“Good~”
Cen Yinian chuckled, lifting his eyes lazily to glance at him. “Then go cut her wings off and bring them back to me.”
And afterward, he’d kill him anyway.
“Fine! Fine, I’ll do it!”
You Lin bobbed his head frantically, clinging to this false hope like a drowning man.
“Baby, let’s spare him for today, alright?” Cen Yinian pulled Xin Ling up, whispering by her ear.
From his expression, Xin Ling knew perfectly well he wouldn’t let him go so easily.
She quickly nodded. “Okay, I’ll listen to you.”
“Baby’s so obedient~”
The two retraced their steps. Midway, Xin Ling suddenly asked, “That woman you mentioned—who is she?”
“She’s someone you know. Who do you think would want your life?”
…Tang Yue?
The slight freeze in her expression told Cen Yinian she had guessed correctly.
“Oh, right. There’s something I didn’t finish saying back in the dungeon.”
Xin Ling looked at him strangely. “Why not finish it then?”
“Because I only wanted you to hear it.”
Hm?
Cen Yinian suddenly stopped, tilted her chin precisely, and kissed her. Fine kisses and hot breath spread over her, filling the dim corridor with suffocating intimacy.
“We’re not enemies. We’re lovers.”
His hoarse murmur sank into her ears, sparking tingling currents that spread from her heart through every limb and bone.
The same kind could slaughter each other.
Different kinds, too, could fall in love.
