“The Gentle Rose Becomes His Most Beloved in the Apocalypse” Chapter 17

Chapter 17: You’ve Been Coveting Me for a Long Time

Before Wen Yao could answer the question, Ji Mingchen stepped past her, glancing at the corridor behind her. Confirming no one was following, he retracted his expression and said, “Come in, I’ll give you an injection.”

“Huh?”

Wen Yao was clearly caught off guard by his abrupt statement, but Ji Mingchen didn’t give her time to react. He directly reached out, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her into the room.

The door closed gently, shutting out the hallway lights. The room was dark, with no lights on. The antique furnishings added a strange, ambiguous atmosphere.

Wen Yao leaned against the door, wary. The previous tension had left her momentarily stunned, her mind short-circuiting for a second. She stammered, “Wh… what kind of injection?”

Ji Mingchen was taking a syringe out of an aluminum medicine box. Hearing her question, his hand paused. He lazily curled his lips, “Hmm? What kind of injection do you want?”

“…”

“…”

“…”

AAAAAHHHHHH!

What a stupid question did she ask!

Wen Yao lowered her eyelashes, her face red as if it would bleed. She could only pretend to be calm, “… Is it a virus vaccine?”

Ji Mingchen hummed in response, handing her the aluminum box.

Wen Yao cautiously glanced at him, taking it. The silver aluminum box had a white label, and the label read:

“R-Type Zombie Virus Blocker Vaccine (Trial Sample).”

“…”

“!!”

The Dongzhou Base Biological Department had already developed a vaccine for the R-Type virus? This variant had only appeared about three months ago! How fast they are…

Wen Yao’s eyes were filled with shock, but at the same time, she let out a huge sigh of relief. “So you weren’t going to… you were going to get the vaccine?”

Ji Mingchen shushed her.

“?”

“The Dongzhou Biological Research Headquarters just developed it. Doctor Lin only got one sample here. He treasures it like his life. Don’t tell him I stole it.”

“Otherwise, he’ll curse me behind my back.”

Wen Yao: “…”

She didn’t know what to say.

Why didn’t he say so earlier!

Ji Mingchen put on the white gloves from the silver tray, inserting the needle into the thumb-sized glass vial.

In the silence, Wen Yao looked around, unable to find any switches. She asked him, “Why don’t you turn on the lights? Can you see in the dark?”

“No electricity.”

“?”

The lights were on downstairs on the fourth floor, and the hallway was also brightly lit. So, this room was the only one without electricity?

To ease the unease the darkness brought her, Wen Yao asked, “Is the circuit breaker broken?”

“No.” Ji Mingchen extracted the liquid, slowly placed the vial on the cabinet, then a small flame appeared from his fingertips. He casually lit the candle on the gilded candlestick next to it.

In an instant, the dim candlelight illuminated the area near the door, casting long shadows of them both on the carpet.

“This is where I live, and I… don’t like electric lights, only candles.”

Wen Yao: “…”

Understood. Thinking of him as a lunatic, many problems were solved.

Ji Mingchen walked towards her with the syringe, “Unbutton your shirt.”

Wen Yao felt that there was nothing to be distrustful of at this point. She unbuttoned her shirt, revealing her shoulder.

Ji Mingchen bent slightly, wiped her skin with an alcohol swab, and then plunged the needle in.

The man’s scent was clear at such close range. It was an indescribable smell, fresh and slightly fragrant, faint and light.

Feeling the sting in her shoulder, Wen Yao asked, “That newly developed sample, is it reliable? Will there be any side effects?”

Ji Mingchen: “It’s still unclear. Let’s test it on you and see.”

Wen Yao: “!!?”

So she was just a white rat?

Before she could pull out the needle, the man had already pushed the small amount of medicine in.

Ji Mingchen pressed down on her hand, withdrawing the syringe as he smiled nonchalantly, “Even the strongest side effects are better than becoming a zombie and dying, wouldn’t you say?”

“…”

That’s right. The newly developed blocker vaccine sample was a rare commodity. Usually, it was used to replicate and research preventive vaccines. But he, on the other hand, took the finished product that others had painstakingly worked on and injected it all into her.

If the researchers who had dedicated themselves to science knew about this, they would probably go crazy.

The warmth of his fingertips still lingered on her skin. Wen Yao felt a bit numb in her mouth. After pulling up her collar and buttoning it, she whispered, “… Thank you.”

It turned out he just wanted to give her the vaccine. But she misunderstood that he wanted to take her…

Watching Ji Mingchen burn the syringe and vial, Wen Yao thought that was the end of it. But unexpectedly, the man, while casually removing his white gloves, curled his lips and said, “So you’ve been coveting me for a long time, haven’t you…”

“…”

Wen Yao was utterly confused, “… Who’s coveting you?”

“Didn’t you?” Ji Mingchen raised an eyebrow, his meaningful gaze falling on her flushed cheeks, “What were you expecting just now?”

Wen Yao took a deep breath, “Was that what I was expecting?”

It was clearly him who led her to misunderstand. Now, he was turning things around and accusing her!

“How could it not be? Your face is so red…” He lowered his eyelashes and laughed, his voice low and magnetic, his breath shallow and intermittent, as if this was something particularly funny.

Wen Yao couldn’t stand the sight of this shameless dog man anymore. She took a deep breath, stepped forward, and reached out to grab his shirt collar.

She only intended to grab his collar, but her hand missed and she ended up violently pulling his shirt open.

Looking at the man’s exposed abs and the two buttons on the floor, Wen Yao felt as if she had been scalded. She immediately let go: “…”

Damn…

Ji Mingchen only looked up at Wen Yao when the buttons on the floor stopped bouncing. His long, narrow peach blossom eyes curved at the ends, with a “as expected” expression.

Wen Yao didn’t want to hear this shameless dog man speak anymore. She simply covered her ears.

Ji Mingchen was about to say something else when a knock came from outside the door, ” Captain Ming.”
