“The Gentle Rose Becomes His Most Beloved in the Apocalypse”
“The Gentle Rose Becomes His Most Beloved in the Apocalypse” Chapter 25

Chapter 25: To Pretend to Faint, or Not to Pretend to Faint?

Wen Yao thought about it and decided to go through with it. She had a miniature knife hidden in her palm and feigned unconsciousness after sitting for a while, leaning back on the sofa.

It didn’t take long for two maids to enter. They bound her hands and feet with rope and stuffed her into a black sack.

They hadn’t received any training, so their methods were unprofessional. The rope was loose, and with a little effort, she could break free even without the knife.

The two maids dragged her to the corridor. Lu Li stood up from the wall she was leaning against: “Leave her to me.”

She then picked up the black sack on the ground and carried it on her shoulder.

At the west gate of the castle villa square, Fei Kewei was already waiting by the car.

Lu Li was surprised to see her: “Miss Wei, why did you come down?”

Fei Kewei smoothed her exquisite chestnut curls and smiled at Lu Li with curved eyebrows: “I’ve been in the villa for too long, I wanted to get some fresh air.”

That’s what she said, but she was actually afraid that Lu Li would go back on her word, so she came to supervise personally. She wouldn’t rest easy unless the person was dumped outside the city.

Lu Li naturally dared not disobey this little ancestor. She threw the black sack into the trailer behind the car, then opened the passenger door for Fei Kewei. After doing all this, she got into the driver’s seat and started the car.

It was almost dark, with thick clouds rolling across the sky. The dim light shrouded the glass walls, adding a touch of oppression and gloom to the fallen metropolis.

After the car started, Wen Yao cut the rope in her hand and crawled out of the black sack.

Her petite figure crouched on the edge of the trailer, listening to the conversation in front.

Lu Li drove the car towards the city while trying to negotiate with Fei Kewei: “Why don’t we just dump her in the city? She’s just a little girl. Port Bridge City is so big, with several districts. She doesn’t know her way around, she won’t be able to find her way back…”

“Besides, even if she runs back, Commander Ming is so fastidious, he wouldn’t want her back.”

Some parts of the city were very chaotic. If they dumped a helpless, beautiful little girl here, she would probably be dragged away by those wild men and violated within two days.

Fei Kewei was unhappy to hear this: “So Captain Lu is feeling sorry for her, a little girl?”

Lu Li: “I just think that everyone in this world is struggling to survive. There’s no need to drive people to their deaths. There are zombies everywhere outside the city. If we dump her outside, she probably won’t even survive half an hour.”

Fei Kewei didn’t care: “Just dump her outside.”

She didn’t want to give her a chance to survive. It would be best if she was eaten by zombies. She thought to herself.

Wen Yao, who had heard this conversation, thought: “…”

It seemed like they didn’t like her and wanted to dump her outside to die.

She had finally managed to get to the Dongzhou District, finally entered the city, she couldn’t be thrown out like this.

Seeing that the car was slowing down as it passed the crossroads, Wen Yao rolled to the back of the car and quickly jumped off. As the car sped away, she rolled to a stop.

It was completely dark, but luckily, this city had electricity. The streetlights on the side of the road were lit up sparsely, so it wasn’t completely pitch black.

Wen Yao patted the dust off her skirt, grabbed the knife in her hand, and walked back.

This area was a survivor zone within the city, inhabited mainly by non-combatants, mostly the elderly, the weak, women, and children. They included original residents and refugees from other places…

Because it was near the Dongzhou 14 District main base, it was under the control of the team, so there was a basic social order. There might be some petty squabbles, but no one dared to cause trouble in the streets.

Wen Yao’s eyes swept over the stalls next to her. The stalls were set up in front of an abandoned office building. There was a red and green traffic light pole lying on its side to the left, and a dilapidated street lamp standing to the right.

The stalls were made of a few sacks spread out on the ground, very simple. The things on them were also messy, including canned meat, shovels, clothes, salt, pots…

The stall owner was a woman who looked to be in her thirties, her clothes were tattered. She was holding a baby in her arms, who was not sleeping very soundly. The mother was watching over the stall while humming a lullaby to soothe the child.

Wen Yao walked over: “Hello.”

The woman nodded at her and pointed to the things on the stall: “See if there’s anything you want…”

Wen Yao picked up the big shovel that was as tall as her: “How much for this?”

The woman gestured with her fingers: “Five silver coins.”

Wen Yao thought for a moment and held out her knife: “Can I trade this with you?”

Besides gold and silver coins, people could also barter in the apocalypse. As long as both parties agreed, the value of the item itself didn’t matter.

The knife in Wen Yao’s hand was small, but it was new and exquisite, a multi-functional knife. If the other party could use it, she might agree to the trade.

The woman: “Let me see.”

The other party was holding a child, so Wen Yao wasn’t afraid that she would run away. She handed the knife to her.

After a while, the woman waved to her and nodded.

Wen Yao then took the shovel.

It was dark, and she felt insecure without a hard-core weapon. She couldn’t get her hands on a knife, sword, or axe for the time being, so a shovel was good enough.

She had been used to using the Silver Moon Sword, so she had some feel for anything with a handle.

Wen Yao continued walking back. After taking a few steps, the woman called out to her: “Little girl…”

Wen Yao turned around. The woman said to her: “Don’t take that road if you’re alone. There’s a stretch of road ahead with three streetlights broken. It’s easy to get into trouble at night.”

“Take that road, it’s wider and there are often team members driving by, so it’s relatively safe.”

“Thank you.”

The woman waved to her and continued to soothe the baby in her arms.

Wen Yao looked at this scene, her heart filled with mixed emotions.

She thought of Shen Yichuan again, and of her past acts of kindness, always criticized by him for being sentimental.

He was calm, rational, and strategic, but he never understood that kindness in the face of despair was the most heartwarming.

Wen Yao had been covered by the sack and didn’t remember the way. The thick clouds in the sky soon gave way to rain.

By the time she finally got to the area near the castle villa, it was the middle of the night.

The rain was pouring down. Through the blurry curtain of water, she looked at the European-style streetlights in the distance.

Two black cars were parked in front of the large arched gate. Several white-clad researchers got out of the cars, and men in black uniforms came forward to hold umbrellas for them.

Soon, the cars drove away, and the researchers left one after another.

Wen Yao watched silently, unsure if it was safe to go back now. She had only been in the Dongzhou 14 District base for a few days, and she didn’t know her way around. She didn’t understand the complicated relationships between these bigwigs.

Logically, the base had many armed guards, and it would be difficult to get a living person out. But Miss Wei had managed to do it.

Not only did she manage to do it, she even openly said she wanted to dump her outside the city. This made her think that Miss Wei must have a lot of power. If she went back so rashly, she might be walking into a trap.

“…”

Forget it, no one in this world could be trusted.

Wen Yao lowered her eyelashes, which were wet with raindrops. She silently wrung out the water on her clothes and turned away from the castle villa area.
