Chapter 29: Possessed by a Devil
Ji Mingchen wiped his hands, then polished his silver pistol before returning it to its holster. “Drag her down and have Dr. Lin take a look. Don’t let her get really hurt.”
He turned to Butler Zhou, with a smile. “Otherwise, if Director Fei finds out, he might blame me.”
His tone was casual and gentle, filled with concern, as if he weren’t the one who had done the deed.
Butler Zhou, simply replied, “…Yes.”
The maids standing behind them trembled in fear. If they hadn’t been pressed against the corridor wall, they would have almost been unable to stand.
As Ji Mingchen went out, he saw He Fengyan. He wasn’t on duty today and happened to be in the villa. He had rushed over after hearing the gunshot.
Seeing the maids carrying someone away, He Fengyan, usually so composed, couldn’t hide his shock. “Ming… Captain Ming, how could you do this to a little girl? If Director Fei finds out…”
Ji Mingchen smiled. “Sorry, I was just a little angry.”
He said this, but his calm face showed no hint of apology.
He Fengyan didn’t say anything, only thinking to himself that Captain Ming was truly ruthless and crazy. It seemed like there was nothing he wouldn’t do.
Ji Mingchen looked at He Fengyan and said with a curve of his lips, “Since you’re here, Captain He, can you do me a favor?”
He Fengyan’s scalp tingled at his tone. He was his subordinate, how could he refuse? “Captain Ming, just give your orders.”
“I lost a little, silly cat. You can bring some people and help me find it,” Ji Mingchen said.
He Fengyan: “…”
After a long pause, he said expressionlessly, “Okay, I’ll go right away.”
As He Fengyan turned to leave, the smile on Ji Mingchen’s face faded. His dark eyes were like a cold pool, radiating coldness and killing intent.
With Wen Yao’s abilities, she wouldn’t be easily taken away.
The reason she cooperated and left the ancient castle villa was because she felt helpless and didn’t dare to confront the people in the villa directly.
She hadn’t come back in all these days, and it wasn’t because she couldn’t find her way. It was because she sensed the hostility of others and felt unsafe, so she decided not to return.
“…”
This little girl was so pitiful.
Thinking about it, Ji Mingchen felt annoyed at his own negligence.
He was used to being free and had forgotten that there were such a group of self-righteous fools…
…
A shiny black sedan raced through the city’s night. The man in the back seat rolled down the window and, using the faint light, peered through the gap between his fingers at the cold, abandoned buildings.
He Fengyan in the passenger seat was a little worried. “Captain Ming, where should we go to look for her now?”
Before the apocalypse, Gangqiao City was an international metropolis with four districts: North, South, East, and West. Each district had countless streets and alleys.
On the day Miss Yao disappeared, he had already sent people to search all the possible places. But it was like looking for a needle in a haystack. With so many teams and people, they searched for two days and two nights, but couldn’t even find a piece of her clothing.
Now, half a month later, if she was dead, her body would have rotted in this humid environment. How could they find anything?
He Fengyan thought that Captain Ming wouldn’t have an answer. After asking the question, he felt a little guilty. But unexpectedly, the man in the back seat withdrew his hand, straightened his collar, and said with certainty, “North District, go to the training camp.”
“Ah?” The North District was the most chaotic area, and the training camp was a battlefield of life and death. A little girl with no fighting skills would only die faster there.
However, not only did Ji Mingchen not explain, but he added, “F Camp.”
“It would be best if you could ask the commander of F Camp to give me the recruitment list for the past half month.”
He Fengyan was still confused. It was unlikely that the little girl would be in the training camp, let alone the hellish F Camp. Wasn’t that like throwing a rabbit into a tiger’s den?
After a long while, he seemed to understand and said in realization, “Captain Ming means that Miss Yao is too striking to be seen in the city, so she would end up in the hands of those lecherous people in F Camp?”
As he spoke, He Fengyan turned his head. At that moment, Ji Mingchen also looked up, his dark, profound eyes meeting his.
Although it was silent, it was chilling.
He Fengyan’s spine went cold. He thought, “Oh no,” and quickly retracted his gaze.
A gentle and introverted little girl, who was also so beautiful, would be very dangerous if she got lost in the city. If she fell into the hands of F Camp, she would be bullied beyond imagination…
When Captain Ming brought Miss Yao back and placed her on the fifth floor, everyone knew she was his woman.
His woman was now missing, and she had fallen into the hell of F Camp…
He Fengyan had been guarding the base of District Fourteen for so many years and knew Captain Ming relatively well. This man, although seemingly gentle and kind on the surface, with many good deeds, was not a good person at heart.
He was a clean freak and held a grudge. Whether she was found or not, whether she was alive or dead, tonight would be a bloody night.
Who would die, how many would die, it was all unknown…
He Fengyan’s heart was filled with anxiety. After instructing the driver to drive to the North District, he didn’t say anything else.
Ji Mingchen lowered his eyes and thought.
At first, he also suspected that Wen Yao had changed her mind and returned to Beizhou. Later, he thought it was unlikely. She didn’t have a car, and no vehicles had been lost from the District Fourteen base…
Even if she found a car in the city, with the danger outside, she wouldn’t be stupid enough to drive back alone.
So she must still be in Gangqiao City. She was strong-willed, and the place she would go, without a doubt, would be the training camp.
Although she was capable enough to avoid being bullied, the living conditions in those battlefields were terrible, the food was terrible, and it was easy to encounter dangers from mutated zombies when going out.
He wondered where his little girl was, if she was hurt…
Ji Mingchen thought about it, feeling a headache. He raised his finger and rubbed his temple.
…
F Camp was made up of several abandoned factories. There were no training grounds, only dormitories and a dining hall. The dormitories housed ten to twenty people in a small room, and the dining hall only served breakfast and dinner, with very rough food.
These people either went out to search and scavenge every morning at seven and returned at five in the afternoon, or they followed the main force and took a bus to a farther place, in which case they would sometimes stay out for several days.
Wen Yao, who was once the most outstanding commander trainee in Beizhou District Thirteen, was now back in the newbie village, so to speak, and she was completely at ease.
It only took her half a month to go from being eyed by everyone to being feared by everyone.
In the past half month, she had taken over an industrial garage and set up a simple and safe residence for herself in the camp. She also made three friends, or rather, three little followers. The four of them formed a temporary small team.
That evening, Wen Yao and the others were delayed because they were looking for a lost tricycle, so they didn’t make it back before the city gate closed at night.
They were forced to spend the night at a gas station on the side of the road.
In the dusty little house, a bonfire crackled.
Qiu Zhi pointed to the pile of scrap metal on the tricycle at the door and asked Wen Yao, “Boss Yao, how many silver coins do you think this load of junk can exchange for?”
