Chapter 33: The Clothes Are Dirty
Wen Yao looked at Ji Mingchen’s messy and dirty appearance, and actually wanted to help him wipe it clean. But looking down at her own black hands, she could only give up.
She didn’t know if it was because of the dirty clothes that he was in a bad mood, but Ji Mingchen didn’t speak the whole way back to the city. Wen Yao was a little apprehensive, unsure if she had caused him any trouble.
When the convoy entered the fenced-off barbed wire, Wen Yao finally spoke up: “Thank you for bringing me back. The south gate of F camp is near here. You can park here, I’ll go back to the training camp myself.”
Ji Mingchen rested his elbow on the car window, his hand supporting his chin. He turned his head to look at her when he heard this.
Seeing the incredulous look on his face, as if he was looking at a fool, Wen Yao felt a little confused: “Wh…what’s wrong?”
Ji Mingchen chuckled a little: “I brought so many people to look for you for a whole day and night, and now you want me to let you go? Do you think it’s appropriate?”
“…”
It seemed…not very appropriate.
He had gone to such great lengths to find her, surely not just to let her go.
Wen Yao simply gave up. She didn’t think she was an important person. After a moment of hesitation, she asked: “Then why did you come looking for me?”
Ji Mingchen: “What kind of question is that? You wouldn’t look for your partner if they were missing?”
Wen Yao looked confused. She quietly glanced at the people in front of the car, then leaned close to the man’s ear and whispered: “Didn’t you say…we were just pretending to be partners?”
Ji Mingchen unconsciously leaned away from her, keeping a distance: “Huh? Did I say that?”
Seeing how dismissive he was, Wen Yao felt a little embarrassed. She didn’t get any closer, but recalled: “That day, the day you brought me back, you said I had a choice…”
Ji Mingchen closed his eyes and rubbed his temples: “Think about it again.”
Wen Yao thought back carefully to the conversation that day:
“So you’re saying that you were pretending to be my partner?”
“It’s true.”
“Let Mei Yasha drive you back to North 洲.”
“Of course, if you want to stay, then your identity can only be my partner, understand?”
It’s true, it can only be my partner…
From beginning to end…it seemed that nothing was mentioned about pretending.
“I thought you said that because of my identity…” Wen Yao explained.
Moreover, his final serious “understand?” was indeed a little ambiguous.
Ji Mingchen didn’t respond. The car slowed down at that moment, and someone in the car next to them asked He Fengyan: “Captain He, what should we do with these three?”
Before He Fengyan could answer, Wen Yao tentatively asked: “Can you send them to D camp?”
She felt that without her, they wouldn’t last long in F camp. Qiu Zhi was fine, but Bei Xiaoduo and Jin Yiwen might have to go back to their previous humiliating life.
He Fengyan listened to Wen Yao’s words and subconsciously looked at Ji Mingchen. Ji Mingchen glanced at Wen Yao, his expression nonchalant: “What are you looking at me for? Do as she says.”
He Fengyan was stunned for a moment, then quickly nodded: “Yes.”
After the car accelerated again, Wen Yao said to Ji Mingchen: “Thank you.”
Originally, she decided to fight on her own because she didn’t want to owe Ji Mingchen too much. But now, he had saved her so many times, and this time he even mobilized so many people. Now, even Qiu Zhi and the other three were getting a free ride because of her.
And all of this, without exception, was a huge favor.
“…”
Well, now she really couldn’t pay him back even if she sold herself.
Back at the ancient castle villa, Ji Mingchen carried her to the fifth floor and then quickly left. Soon, Steward Zhou came up with several maids, and Doctor Lin also rushed over.
Doctor Lin respectfully treated her wounds, Steward Zhou stood in the living room, directing the maids to busy themselves, fetching towels, medicine, and basins.
An hour later, Wen Yao’s right arm wound was bandaged, and the bruises on her leg from being entangled by the zombie’s long tongue were carefully treated with ointment by the maids.
Ji Mingchen returned after changing into clean clothes. Drops of water slid down his collar, and his wet hair still dripped with water droplets, making it clear that he had just taken a shower.
The man leaned lazily against the door of the room, his peach blossom eyes slightly curved, and asked Lin Zeren: “Is the wound treated?”
Lin Zeren nodded: “The arm scratch looks serious, but it’s just an external wound. It’s been stopped and bandaged.”
“As for the ankle, it was entangled by the D-type long-tongued mutated creature. This type of zombie has mutated again, and the long tongue mucus has a slight toxicity. The entangled area will lose sensation, but it’s not serious. Just apply medicine regularly, and it will recover in three to five days.”
Ji Mingchen straightened up and smiled at Lin Zeren: “Thank you for your trouble.”
Lin Zeren was so nervous by the smile that he could only return a sheepish smile: “…It’s my duty.”
Ji Mingchen instructed the maids: “Go and give her a bath.”
Wen Yao immediately shook her head upon hearing this: “I don’t need anyone’s help, I can do it myself.”
Ji Mingchen: “You have a wound, it’s not convenient to wash yourself.”
He then looked at Lin Zeren who was about to leave: “Doctor Lin, what do you think?”
Lin Zeren was speechless: “…” What does this have to do with him?
After a while, he could only follow the man’s words: “Commander Ming is right, Ms. Yao has a wound, so…it’s still better to have someone take care of her.”
Seeing that Wen Yao was still resisting, Ji Mingchen’s lips curved slightly: “Then why don’t you all go out…”
“I’ll do it.”
Wen Yao: “!!?”
What is he going to do, personally help her bathe? Seriously?
Seeing that the maids were about to leave, Wen Yao clutched her clothes tightly, her expression flustered, and even her voice became a little urgent: “It’s not necessary to trouble you, just let them help me.”
She’s a girl after all.
Ji Mingchen was amused by Wen Yao’s nervous appearance, and after a long time, he mercifully nodded: “Go ahead, don’t get the wound wet.”
It wasn’t that he really intended to help her bathe, but he knew that this little girl was used to being independent. If she bathed herself and made her wound worse, he had to say this to get her consent.
Ji Mingchen went out with Lin Zeren. In the corridor of the ancient castle, Ji Mingchen smiled and asked Lin Zeren: “By the way, how is Ms. Wei’s injury?”
His tone of concern was as if he wasn’t the one who shot her.
Lin Zeren was already used to this man’s hypocritical smile, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and played along: “The bullet went through her thigh, but it didn’t damage the bone. We performed a small surgery, and the wound has been bandaged. With our medical technology, recovery is just a matter of time.”
“Also, she has a minor bump on her forehead, but it’s just an external wound. It’s nothing serious, just rub some medicine on it.”
Ji Mingchen always smiled slightly: “That’s good, it’s really worrying.”
Lin Zeren: “…”
I can’t tell where you’re worried.
Ji Mingchen patted Lin Zeren on the shoulder, his smile gentle: “You’ve been working hard these past two days, Doctor Lin.”
Lin Zeren wiped the sweat from his forehead again: “It…it’s my duty.”
