Chapter 4: How Will You Repay Me?
Wen Yao immediately glared at him, her cheeks inexplicably burning.
Ji Mingchen remained unfazed, still with that casual, alluring look: “What, are you not going to stitch up your leg wound?”
Wen Yao: “…”
She was wearing the base’s uniform, a windbreaker, and the pants were also black windbreaker pants with a tight fit at the ankles. The wound was on the outside of her thigh, and it wasn’t easy to pull up from the bottom. If she wanted to treat the wound, she would have to take them off completely.
But with just the two of them, taking off her pants in front of him…
Wen Yao couldn’t accept it for a moment.
After all, they were sworn enemies who had been on opposing sides for so many years.
Seeing her hesitation, Ji Mingchen remained silent for a moment, then picked up the scissors nearby: “Don’t move.”
He pressed his palm against Wen Yao’s ankle and simply cut open her pant leg, all the way up. When he exposed her white, delicate leg skin and the sticky flesh, he put down the scissors and picked up a needle of anesthetic.
Although the other party didn’t show any disrespect, the feeling of his warm fingertips touching her skin still made Wen Yao’s mouth feel slightly numb. She felt like the atmosphere was strange.
To distract herself and calm down, she reached out with her right hand and grabbed the silver moon blade beside her.
Catching a glimpse of her actions, Ji Mingchen inserted the needle into her skin, a smirk playing on his lips: “Miss Wen, I’m treating your wound, yet you’re holding a knife behind my back. Do you think that’s appropriate?”
“It’s truly sad to see you treat your savior so cruelly.”
“…”
Wen Yao put down the knife: “I’m sorry, I’m just used to carrying a knife, I didn’t mean to attack you…”
Di Dahu, who was standing guard in the corridor, saw this scene and pulled Mei Yasha hard: “Boss is in danger!”
Mei Yasha turned her head and glanced back, then slapped Di Dahu on the head: “You know nothing, this is called romance!”
“…”
Outside, the rain was falling in a hurry, but inside it was quiet. The man was buried in her thigh, his technique professional and skilled, his movements gentle and meticulous.
For a moment, Wen Yao really had the illusion that he was a doctor: “…Before the apocalypse, were you a doctor?”
Ji Mingchen finished cleaning the wound and began to stitch it up. Hearing this, he casually curled his lips: “The apocalypse has been here for seven years, how old do you think I am?”
“Then you are…”
Ji Mingchen picked up the scissors nearby: “A medical student.”
Wen Yao nodded, he did look quite young now, it would be normal for him to be a student seven years ago.
But she felt that even if he was a doctor, he didn’t seem like a proper healer, but more like…a kind of psychopathic killer in disguise as a doctor.
Ji Mingchen finished treating her right leg and began to cut the pant leg of her left leg. He thought the anesthetic would be enough, but in the end, he found that there were two more wounds that needed to be treated.
And one of the wounds had half a broken zombie tooth embedded in it.
Ji Mingchen threw down his tools with a clang and called Mei Yasha: “Do you have any more anesthetic?”
Mei Yasha shook her head: “This is an abandoned base hospital, the medical supplies are probably all gone, we only found this half bottle that can be used…”
Ji Mingchen’s brow furrowed, a little annoyed.
Mei Yasha didn’t dare to say anything. Seeing this, Wen Yao said calmly: “Just treat it directly, I can endure it.”
In this turbulent world, she had seen all sorts of storms. Once, she had a broken bone, and Shen Yichuan had simply and brutally set it for her. Not to mention the lack of anesthesia and professional medical tools, she didn’t even have any psychological preparation at the time, and she fainted on the spot from the pain.
Mei Yasha also said cautiously: “This wound needs to be treated as soon as possible, and this place is a dangerous area, we shouldn’t stay long…”
“Get out.”
“…Yes.”
When Ji Mingchen sat down again, there was no smile on his face, he was unusually gloomy.
Wen Yao’s face wasn’t looking good either, but she was in pain. Because there was suddenly no anesthetic, the sharp pain of the wound being treated spread through her, and by the end, her whole body was numb…
By the time the treatment was completely finished, Wen Yao had closed her eyes with a deep frown.
Her soft hair clung to her sweat-dampened cheeks, and a drop of blood had spilled from her lips, which had been bitten, making her already stunningly beautiful face even more tragically broken, like a blood-red rose ravaged by wind and rain.
Ji Mingchen looked at Wen Yao like this, his eyes darkening slightly.
He couldn’t help but bend down and reach out, his fingertips brushing against the drop of blood on her lips, then gently smearing it across her cheek, leaving a bright red mark.
Wen Yao’s eyelashes trembled as she opened her eyes, her eyes filled with a watery mist. It took a long time before she finally recovered from the pain.
Meeting his gaze, the man smiled, his breath alluring: “How about it, I saved you? How will you repay me?”
“…”
Wen Yao recalled the various events in her dream, and a thought suddenly flashed through her mind.
The supporting characters in the story could only overturn the plot by doing things that went against their characters. Since Shen Yichuan and Mu Shengsheng were a couple, since her destined ending was to die in the dungeon, since they were all characters in the play, since their existence all served that brainless, bloody drama…
Then why not…break it all.
The distance was close, Wen Yao’s nose felt sour, and suddenly, she hardened her heart and tilted her head, pressing her lips against the man’s.
The girl’s lips were warm and soft, and the moment they pressed against him, Ji Mingchen’s Adam’s apple bobbed, as if an electric current surged through him, numbing his heart.
He never thought it would turn out this way, he was completely stiff…
Wen Yao kissed him lightly, seeing the man’s smile slightly soften, she felt a little flustered.
Was that not what he meant?
Or was he just after her bracelet?!
Wen Yao blushed, her hand reaching for her silver bracelet: “Then…how do you want me to repay you?”
Ji Mingchen still stared at her, his lips still numb, as if he felt unbelievable. He didn’t speak.
Wen Yao lowered her eyelashes and explained seriously: “This bracelet is my grandmother’s gift to me. My sister also has one. I want to find my sister, so I can’t give it to you…”
“In our Beizhou Thirteen Base, resources are shared, and the team members hardly have any private property. Now, besides this bracelet, I only have this silver moon blade left…”
“But it’s my life-saving weapon, so I can’t give it to you either.”
Ji Mingchen’s eyelashes drooped, his gaze resting on her moist, full lips, and he suddenly chuckled, as if he had been hit by something funny. He laughed for a long time and couldn’t stop.
Wen Yao was already embarrassed, and now being laughed at so recklessly by him made her even more ashamed: “…Don’t laugh.”
“Okay, I won’t laugh…” Ji Mingchen said he wouldn’t laugh, but the corners of his lips couldn’t be suppressed: “Since Deputy Captain Wen, the famous deputy captain of Beizhou Thirteen Base, is so poor, then I’ll just owe this debt of gratitude for now.”
Wen Yao: “…”
Feeling like she had been severely offended.
She was about to say something to salvage her dignity, when the door was suddenly slammed open, Di Dahu rushed in, stammering: “Boss, something’s wrong, there are ghosts in this hospital building…”
Ji Mingchen pressed down the corner of his lips, his expression instantly unpleasant: “What ghosts?”
