Chapter 8 Ling Family
At the top of Immortal Guest Mountain, the Ling Family
Ling Yiran followed the Ling family members into the grand house. An elderly man immediately called out to Ling Yiran excitedly, “Uncle.”
“…” Before coming here, Ling Yiran only intended to inquire about the yin marriage. He never thought about acknowledging relatives, nor did he expect to be recognized as a member of the Ling family at first glance.
The old man’s eyes were filled with tears as he looked at Ling Yiran’s face, “You look exactly like Uncle Gong.”
The young man beside the old man said, “Grandpa, the sun is too strong here. Whatever you have to say, let’s talk inside.”
“Yes, yes, let’s talk inside.” The old man pulled Ling Yiran into the house.
Ling Yiran sat down and asked the old man, “May I ask who you are…”
“I am your youngest nephew, Ling Sisong.” Ling Sisong introduced the four young people around him, “These four are your great-nephews, Ling Ce, Ling Cang, Ling Zhe, and Ling Qian. Aren’t you going to greet your great-uncle?”
“Great-uncle.” Because Ling Yiran looked younger than them, the four young people felt a bit awkward calling him that.
Ling Yiran’s mouth twitched slightly, and he asked the old man, “How are you sure that I am your uncle?”
Ling Sisong laughed, “You are called Ling Yiran, right?”
Ling Yiran nodded.
“Then that’s right. Before Uncle Gong passed away, he told me that one day you would come back to find us.”
“…” Ling Yiran frowned, “The Uncle Gong you mentioned is…”
“He is your father, Ling Haochen. He was the most powerful feng shui fortune-teller in the history of our Ling family. He could understand the will of heaven and listen to the mandate of heaven, slay demons and exorcise evil, help people avoid disasters, and his skills were profound and unfathomable. Calculating that you would come up from below to find us was not a difficult task for him.” Ling Sisong spoke of Ling Haochen with admiration and respect.
Ling Yiran was surprised, “He, he was that powerful?”
To have the ability to understand the will of heaven and listen to the mandate of heaven is a talent bestowed by the heavens.
“Yes.” Ling Sisong sighed, “But his regret in life was not being able to save your life. Oh, and he is your father.”
He stood up and walked to a wall full of photos, pointing to a black and white photo, “Look, don’t you and your father look alike?”
More than just alike. When Ling Yiran saw it, he thought he was looking at his own memorial photo.
He walked up to the photo, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes, as he unexpectedly had the chance to see what his biological father looked like.
Ling Yiran looked at the memorial photo for a long time before turning around and saying, “I came this time to ask who secretly arranged a yin marriage for me?”
The four juniors didn’t dare to speak.
Ling Sisong was particularly angry about this matter and shouted upstairs, “You brat, get down here now.”
Ling Yiran looked up to see a figure slowly walking down the stairs. When he saw the person’s face clearly, he was stunned. The person looked seven or eight parts similar to him.
Actually, the Ling family members all resembled their ancestors in some way, whether it was the eyebrows, face shape, nose, mouth, or eyes. But it was rare to find someone who looked so similar, and the person coming down the stairs looked like they were carved from the same mold as Ling Yiran. If they went out, people would definitely say they were twins.
Ling Sisong introduced, “Uncle, this is Ling Zhen, my youngest grandson. He’s the one who used your birthdate to arrange the yin marriage for you.”
“Great-uncle.” Ling Zhen rushed over and hugged Ling Yiran’s neck, “I was wrong. I shouldn’t have used your birthdate to arrange a yin marriage. Please forgive me. I’ll be your servant from now on, making sure you’re comfortable.”
Ling Yiran pushed his head away with a dark face, “I don’t need you to be my servant. I just want you to annul my marriage.”
“I can’t annul it. I’ll just be your servant.” Ling Zhen hugged him tightly, “I’ll burn lots of paper money for you to spend in the underworld and burn thousands of paper dolls to be your concubines. How about that?”
Ling Yiran asked, “Why can’t it be annulled?”
“I used an ancient secret method to forcibly bind you and Xing Han together, but the secret method only teaches how to arrange a yin marriage, not how to annul it.”
“You…” Ling Yiran was about to be angered to life by him, “Why did you, a junior, insist on arranging a yin marriage for me, a senior?”
Ling Zhen looked innocent, “I don’t know either. When I saw your birthdate, I had a strong urge to arrange a yin marriage for you.”
Ling Yiran: “…”
Ling Sisong saw his grandson looking so pitiful and had to speak up, “Uncle, the birthdate Ling Zhen saw was left by Uncle Gong. I guess the strong obsession left on the birthdate by Uncle Gong guided Ling Zhen to do this.”
Ling Yiran felt a headache, not only from being angered by Ling Zhen but also from being sunburned. He had been sitting on the sunny side during the car ride over.
He rubbed his temples, “I can’t stay in the human world for long. I’ll settle accounts with you tomorrow.”
Ling Zhen noticed he was uncomfortable and quickly let go, “Great-uncle, take care.”
Ling Yiran suddenly remembered something and turned to him, “You just said you’d be my servant, right?”
Ling Zhen nodded vigorously, “Yes, yes, great-uncle, is there something you want me to do?”
“Help me buy a phone from the human world. I’ll come to you for it tomorrow morning.”
“Yes, I promise to complete the task and get you the best phone.”
“It needs to have a SIM card in it.”
“Okay.”
After giving his instructions, Ling Yiran hurried back to the underworld to recuperate.
At nine in the evening, Shi Yi came to find Ling Yiran on time.
Ling Yiran changed into his ghost officer uniform and asked, “Where is our first soul-collecting task?”
“At the Jun Gui Bar in National City.”
